It's official, Samodurova and Kostornaia are the Russian entries now.

This field is insane, with those two, plus Araki, Kihira, Young and Kim, and 3 JGPF spots on the line.

Crazy to think that this year for Russian ladies, you had to earn a gold medal to get a second JGP assignment.
And the overcrowding problem will move into seniors. Konstantinova and Feditchkina will very likely move to seniors, but skaters like Gubanova, Nugumanova, Samodurova, Guliakova and Panenkova will have to think whether to move into seniors or not. There won’t be enough places for them to get a GP event, so the decision will be to move up and be only doing senior B competition, or stay junior longer and try to get JGP events. To be fair, if Konstantinova and Feditchkina skated well at their first event, they would get second events, so they have only themselves to blame that the strategy of styaing longer junior did not work for them this season.

There are too many of them! And they're all good. And apart from Samodurova, they're all from the same rink. And, there's probably ten 12 year olds out there waiting to knock the 13 yo's off the podium next season.

It's possible that the Russian Fed decided for Konstantinova and Fedichkina that they would stay junior for another season. Konstantinova (especially, but also Fedichkina) would have been a much better host pick at CoR than Mikhailova and would have freed up JGP spots for others (second spot for Guliakova after her silver medal, for instance).

I had not even heard of Mikhailova until I saw the entries for Rostelecom.

I am pretty sure the federation has been a part of the decision making process whether Feditchkina and Konstantinova would stay junior. On the other hand, if they were allowed to move seniors, they wouldn’t have had enough points for GP events, one of them would get the host spot but what then? Only seniors B? Staying at junior level this year doesn’t prevent them doing senior B events, but gave them extra opportunity to earn some points at JGP (and possibly getting into JGPF if they skated better), which would help them get points for next years GP spots.

Season 15-16
JGP Slovakia 5th
JGP USA 4th

Maybe that’s why you don’t remember. For current Russian juniors, 5th and 4th is considered a failure. Saying that, I watched her and thought she might have been a little bit robbed. In both events she skated programs that appeared clean, with proper technical difficulty compared to other Russian ladies, and yet when the scores came back, it was pretty low. I am assuming she had some undrrotations or possibly did not hit some levels on spins, but it was always shock to see her scores after watching her skate.

Sofia SULA (FIN) has replaced Viveca Lindfors here (she had to withdraw from the FS at Finlandia Trophy due to injury).

Karolina Calhoun/Michael Valdez (he placed 10th in Junior Dance at 2017 U.S. Nationals with Elizabeth Addas) are debuting here for Brazil: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103105.htm
Calhoun competed twice on the JGP last season with Logan Leonesio.

Watching the SDs while I work and Lewis & Bye didn't seem overly impressed with their score. I did like Nguyen & partner more and thought they would have been ahead but it looks like Lewis/Bye got a small PCS boost.

And of course the stream craps out for Alicia/Claudio; I'll have to catch them on repeat later.

I haven't seen any of Medvedeva's programs this season, but I've now seen Hiwatashi and Maierhofer twice. And not-actually-a-baby-Rizzo about 15 times, although not today.

I guess I'm addicted to the youtube chat comments; I can take or leave high-quality skating.

Maierhofer's coach looks like he's going straight--or perhaps I should say directly--from the rink to a Tom of Finland convention.

I'm always happy to see South American skaters. Simone Pastusiak, Children of the Corn Margalic, and now Calagno (although his ISU page falsely claims there was going to be Yma Sumac in that program) are all special to me.
