Hmmm interesting that the US has two Junior Ladies at this event just like Australia. Is someone not using all their spots?

An article by Jack Gallagher on Moa Iwano

Moa Iwano is planning to produce a 4S in her FS! If she succeeds, she would become the first female skater to produce a quad in competition since Miki Ando in the 2002–03 JGPF (which was also a 4S). Ando's quad in that final was the first and only time that a female skater has landed a quad in competition.

This is Moa Iwano from the 2016 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy: Short Program, Free Skate
Could be the battle of the 4S - Alexandra Trusova is planning to do one in the JGP Australia the week before.

I'll be at this one (and also the following week in Riga), although I almost certainly will skip the first half or so of the ladies' free skates here and depending on the draw, possibly some of the LS as well. Because I can't go to any of the Challengers this fall, or Skate Canada, due to other commitments, this is my skating road trip this year (with a side of Vienna before and after). Let me know if there's anyone in particular I should be cheering for!

The ladies' field is highly competitive -- here are a just few to look out for:

Loena HENDRICKX BEL (already qualified for her first Olympics)
Moa IWANO JPN (debut - refer to linked article above)
Eunsoo LIM KOR (4th at 2017 Jr. Worlds, current Korean senior champ)
Anastasiia GUBANOVA RUS (won 2 JGP golds in her debut last year, 2nd at JGP Final)
Anastasia TARAKANOVA RUS (debut - another one of Tutberidze's)
Guzide Irmak BAYIR TUR (placed 10th in Brisbane - very charming skater)
Starr ANDREWS USA (debut) - Q&A published in June: http://figureskatersonline.com/news...andrews-sets-her-sights-high-for-next-season/

Great performance by Trusova in Brisbane. Shame about the under-rotation on the 4S. Next up, Iwano, in the battle of the 4S's!

 I just realized the German pair Luft/Kazimov are skating to "Everybody Cha Cha" by Cecil Jonni Lauro among other selections. The CJL forum used to be a huge troll magnet 10-12 years ago with my sister eagerly taking part in the "hatespread". I just told her about my discovery and she cannot stop :rofl:ing.

Double splat from Konkina/Takushev.

This is a particularly open field with lots of teams with a chance to medal. Lagouge/Rahier, Lopareva/Karpushov, and Stairs/Royer each have a great shot to earn their first JGP medals.

ETA: Solid debut from Amoia/Becker. His technique appears much stronger than hers, but she had more expression than he did. He still needs to grow into relating to a partner that's not his sister.

Apart from the fall, this was very underwhelming of C/P :shuffle:
And I won't start commenting the costumes/looks.

1st seems pretty generous.

Aye, what a mess of a short dance competition.

I still think Russia should have left Shevchenko & Eremenko here. Nothing that happened today changed my mind.

Other thoughts:
-Thought Carreira & Ponomarenko looked good outside the fall. Much more in sync than the other teams. (Though someone really needs to rethink her outfit). This is the first time they've ever gone into a JGP event as the favorites. It's a different mindset.

-Lagouge & Rahier have improved since last season. More power. Good start for them.

-Konkina & Yakushev started off with great power. Pushed it too much and double splat. Upper body movement needs to be cleaned up.

-Stairs & Royer are growing into quite a solid team. I just wish the presentation matched the level of their skating. Maybe it will come. Took the Parsons quite a while.

-Galiyanova & Tang, I thought, did very well for themselves. I like how she sells that lift toward the end. Such a nice highlight.

-Amoia & Becker had a respectable performance compared to last month.

-I know I'm forgetting someone, but I've blanked on their names, though I remember thinking the twizzles were nice & close.

I can't stand 'Secrets', so it's hard to enjoy it with this music, though I like his skating.
Shame about the combo, the landing of the loop was way off. The Lutz was a total miss.
Very sloppy camel spin.

Ouch.
