Is history racist?

Quite a few of these Confederate statues were mass produced and have little historical value and no artistic value.

Especially the generic Union and Confederate soldiers which are the same statues, except one has US on the belt buckle and one has CS.

Why would any museum want one of those?

An appropriate place might be in a cemetery, especially one where quite a few soldiers were buried.
They could easily be destroyed and something respectful built

Let’s see who wants a 12 ton Lee. Not having A plan on what to do with it now is so dumb.

with so many monuments fundraising started during the civil war. Then you had to find a sculptor and wait for the federal occupation to end to even think about actually installing the statue. Some took years and years. Then all the confederate veterans dying spurred more interest and more statues. William McKinley was a big leader in respecting confederate dead

The United Daughters of the Confederacy headquarters building is located on Arthur Ashe Boulevard, several blocks down from its intersection with Monument Avenue. The REL statue's former location is several blocks east of that intersection.

I suppose the United Daughters could place the separated pieces on their grounds just next door to the Kehinde Wiley "Rumours of War" statue standing in front of of the Virginia Musuem of Fine Arts as a truly ironic "sculpture garden" installation.

In the scrollable set of views at the link below, you can see in the background of the 7th picture how close the UDC HQ's proximity is to VMFA and the Wiley statue:

This is so wrong on every level.

You have to ask the question can their grounds support that weight? Even if it’s not 12 tons anymore they would have to do serious tests of their grounds

Not factually
They're wrong. There's plenty of history in Germany and no monuments of the facilitators.
Communists destroyed a lot of them. There is the story of the 53 year old statue of Kaiser Wilhelm destroyed by communists in 1950! I mean there’s lots of stuff like that. Of course it’s bad that so many famous statue demolitions are like from communists and religious zealots. But then most of the statues of communists were torn down. But Russia won’t get rid of Lenin in red square! They just can’t do it.

Actually, Germans destroyed insignia and symbols after WWII ended because they were deeply ashamed. It took a few years until they talked about Nazi Germany and acknowledged that it is part of their history.
But they could have erected statues. They didn't. They preferred to build monuments to for the victims and put together displays for educational and warning purposes.

Well America had a leader in Lincoln who said there shouldn’t be any negative feelings toward confederates. So there was an attempt by him at least to rehabilitate all the confederate. And not just Lincoln but so many more McKinley, Wilson, Carter and those are just presidents. The effort to “unrehabilitate” confederate Americans is fairly new and recent

If these people ever get total power Jefferson memorial being torn down!!

Not the Jefferson Memorial in DC. Black members of the NYC Assembly want a slave owners statue removed from the Assembly Chamber and sent to a NYC historical Society Museum so the world will get a full understanding of all that Jefferson was. There is a possibility that the statue could go to another location in City Hall where it was located when it came to City Hall in 1834, but this this may not be what they want.

It doesn’t matter because democrats in NYC decided to classify Jefferrson as an evil monster racist first and founder of America second and that is the future and that future means that of course Jefferson memorial will have to be torn down

That is interesting "logic". I think that it contains an informal logical fallacy of some sort. Amusing.

Is this like a *****? It spreads from person to person based on their voter registration?
Definitely. It’s all partisanship and how talking points spread and are adopted as truth. Biden didn’t even oppose dishonoring Jefferson because to do so would be attacking nyc democrats! So he didn’t say honoring Jefferson was right.

Fact: Thomas Jefferson more than slave owner
Thanks Captain Obvious
Tearing down statues of Jefferson and giving non citizens voting rights. Is NYC part of America anymore
If someone is a legal permanent resident they should have voting rights in municipal elections.

If you have a green card you can apply for citizenship and become a citizen! What’s the problem? Why skip having to be a citizen in order to vote. I don’t like the idea of any non citizen being on the voting rolls! People are making believe they won’t vote in federal elections. Georgia and Virginia voted Biden partially because of all new citizen voters.

To be fair, I have a Japanese friend who lives here, is a permanent resident, and cannot get US citizenship and keep her Japanese citizenship.
FTR, she does not vote here
