Yeah, I don't glory in his passing, but I'm certainly not mourning it overly much. Lacking in integrity is a pretty good description.

If you follow Isabel Klee and the good work she and Simon were and are doing then you know Simon has cancer and seizures and at seven years his life is ending. This is her tribute. If you don't want to cry then I suggest you skip it. But if you know about Isabel and Jacob and Simon and the history of taking fosters who are often deemed hopeless or too ill then this is for you:

The CBC showed The Goodies in Canada, but at very odd times so it never got a strong following here. I was lucky that my family visited the UK during the show's heyday, and we watched it with our cousins, which is how I became a fan. I still have the Goodies records that I bought in the UK. RIP Bill.

Despite not having continued to follow his releases over the years, seeing the news this morning hit me harder than I expected. I count myself incredibly lucky to have had the chance to meet and spend some time with Glen years ago (along with Damien Rice and their respective bands' members) before his band opened their show at Liberty Hall back in 2004.

The outpouring of love today for the kind of person he was only confirms for me my memory of just how genuinely kind and thoughtful he was to everyone that day, treating every person involved in the show as though they were his equal, the kind of artist that any venue would be elated to have play their stage. I truly could not have been happier for him, watching him win his Oscar just a few years later. This news sucks.

This will be two articles and one TikTok. I don't know if anyone was following the journey of a young woman named Sydney Towle and her journey with a rare form of cancer. She died recently. She gained quite a following of supporters. She also had a community of haters and people were convinced she was lying and were actively trying to expose "the truth." The first article is about Sydney and her approach to her illness and the haters. To their credit the Times went hard after some of these haters. It was satisfying to see them defend this woman. Here is that article followed by her obituary from the Times and then a TikTok from her brother...what is interesting in that are the comments from all over the world. She clearly touched a lot of people.

In 1974, he had groundbreaking surgery that saved his MLB pitching career and has since saved the careers of numerous pitchers.

My great nephew, one of the top high school pitchers in the country this year, had Tommy John surgery in May shortly after his high school graduation. He's doing very well in his recovery and, although he'll lose a year while he does rehab, is expected to be able to return to pitching.

This one hurts a lot, Hayden was great in everything I saw her in but unfortunately she had been going through a really rough time lately. No cause of death reported so far. The television star, who would have turned 37 on Friday, had been open about her struggles with alcohol addiction and depression, including after the birth of her daughter with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko in 2014.

Panettiere’s daughter, now 11, began living with Klitschko full-time in Ukraine when she was 2. At the time, the actor was struggling with mental health and addiction.
“I think there’s been this very common misconception that I just gave up my child,” she said in an interview with podcaster Jay Shetty in May. “That could not be farther from the truth.”
She said she was in a “horrible cycle for years of battling depression and anxiety and alcoholism and substance abuse” while “just trying to find my way back, my way out of the darkness.”
She entered rehab in 2015, while filming “Nashville.”
“I was the one who put myself in the first treatment center. I was drowning,” she said in a 2023 interview with Women’s Health magazine.

Everybody thinks child actors have landed the golden goose -- especially the ones who make so much money that they never have to work again unless they want to. But that kind of success comes at a huge cost. They (or their parents, more to the point) essentially sacrifice their childhood on the altar of Hollywood celebrity. Too many of them end up with long term psychological and emotional damage.

Also, too many of them end up being the breadwinner and their family members blow through a lot of the money. I believe Hayden was struggling financially when she decided to do a memoir. I don’t think she was getting a lot of work after Nashville ended. But where did all that $$$$$ she made go?
