In Memoriam

I'm very sorry about Bonnie Tyler. In August 2017, a friend and I were on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas to see the eclipse. Bonnie was one of the featured performers for their concert (Joe Jonas and DNCE also headlined). My friend and I had a balcony cabin overlooking the stage where the concert took place. We were out on the balcony clapping and cheering when they came out for sound check, and we had seats near the stage during the concert. Bonnie sang Total Eclipse of the Heart for the closing number, backed up by Joe and DNCE.

Later, we were near the carousel with my friend's stuffed chicken that was our trip mascot. Joe Jonas had borrowed the chicken while he and the other members of DNCE rode the carousel. He had just returned it to my friend when Bonnie came out of a nearby shop with a security person. She came over and talked with us for a long time and posed for photos with us while she held the chicken. She was very sweet, and we enjoyed our conversation very much. She said goodbye and walked away.

A boy about 12 to 14 years old came up to us and asked if we thought Bonnie would be willing to be in a photos with him. She looked back, saw the boy, and probably thought he was with us, and came back. I said to her, "Bonnie, this young man wants to know if he can have his photo taken with you." She replied, "Of course!" and put her arm around his shoulder and was very gracious to him.

I was so sad when I first heard of her illness and had hoped that she would recover.

If anyone remembers the 1970s TV series 'Emergency', Randolph Mantooth has died. It was my favourite TV show as a child. It was made when paramedic (EMT) programs were just beginning, and did a lot to promote it.

U.S. Senator Lindsay Graham has died suddenly at 71. He was a Never-Trumper converted to MAGA. It won’t affect the balance of power in the Senate, South Carolina is as red as it gets.

Condolences to his family. (Never married. Assumed to be gay with good evidence.)

The first movie I saw him in was My Brilliant Career. Great performance by him and Judy Davis. Although he is honest that he found her very difficult to work and not very nice.

This. I don't think he ever gave a bad performance.

First saw him in Reilly Ace Of Spies in the 80s. Hunt For Red October is one of my favourite films. He's also wonderful in the Australian film The Dish.

This is a very sad loss for the New Zealand and Australian film & television industries in particular.
 
We shouldn't forget Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Wonderful film where he got show us grumpy old man.

I would also recommend if you can find it the ABC Australian Story documentary about Sam Neill. It is on ABC iView but not sure if people overseas can see it.
