Gymnastics #25 - Onward to LA

Very good start to the comeback for Jade! Katelyn Ohashi looked good as well. Obviously this is only the beginning, but it's good to see them start off well.

I'm hoping to see some of the women with upgrades this year.
 
I am excited for the US Classic! It feels like the first step towards LA. Those individual worlds in post Olympics years always feel like an aberration. I am especially hoping Skye Blakely somehow stays healthy and makes the LA team.

It says it will be on Peacock. It will feel odd to watch something in English on Peacock after the last month! ((((Telemundo))))
 
Well Skye looks pretty good. I think Jade looks like she is building back. Other than that it was a pretty mediocre comp, but really not unlike watching a Senior B skating event in September. Do we really have so few gymnasts with even a DTY? I am not sure if a 1-event gymnast like Esponda has enough of an upside to be added to a team.
 
I would hardly call Reese a 1-event gymnast. She was 3rd on beam at this event and had the 2nd highest vault score along with her win on Floor, and this field was pretty decent. As it currently stands, I think the gymnasts most likely to make the Worlds team will come from:
Hezly, Claire, Charleigh, Reese, Skye, and Jade. We really have no idea how Hezly is coming back from her injury.

Leanne could come out with some amazing routines but US Classic gave us no signs of that. I think the most likely alternates beyond that would come from Rose, Anzola, Stassi, Molomo, and Moreau. Dulcy seems to be struggling to come back into form from this back injury and we haven't seen Hardie or Jayla at all yet.

Fun to compare last year's classic scores with this year. Bolded the higher score per event.

I'm watching. I was really impressed with Wales earlier and thought they might challenge for a team medal but they probably had too many mistakes on beam and floor.

Canada really struggled on bars but basically went 4 for 4 on beam (no falls). Hopefully they finish strong on floor and vault.

Australia seems like the team to beat.
 
It was an exciting end to the competition, with Wales slightly ahead of England before the last gymnast went. The top floor score of the day for Martin got them the bronze and they sure were excited. The Welsh team looked disappointed in the stands. Australia was the clear winner. Canada rebounded after a shaky start and might wonder what might have been, but this is a good result for them. Ellie Black qualifies to the AA final in first place in her first true AA competition since the Olympics (she competed four events at nationals but with modified floor and vault).
It was also great to see defending AA champion Godwin do so well. She was really emotional after floor. A full comeback from the achilles injury that kept her out of the Olympics.
 
I was worried about her because of her wrist injury. When I first heard that she withdrew, I assumed that was why. The CEO can’t catch a break this year. :wuzrobbed
 
Watching the day 1 replay of USA nationals—I am so pleased with the commentary. So much more respectful of the athletes. Gannon bringing the professionalism. Peszek speaking confidently and explaining what we’re seeing and how that fits into world team picture and Hernandez chiming in with added technical analysis. Roethlisberger from floor and the three of them geeking out at various moments. I especially liked them showing Pease’s ring leap on replay on floor and describing its beauty.
 
I too was very pleased with the women's competition last night. I hate that they can only take 5 to worlds.

For the men, lots of new talent in seniors, but especially Danila Leykin!
 
Men did pretty well tonight! After tonight I think my team is: Fredrick Richards, Shane Wiskus, Danila Leykin, Kam Nelson, and Patrick Hoopes. There's some chance that Yul could make it instead of Hoopes, but Yul only adds a bit on Rings and Parallel bars. No where near as much as Hoopes adds on PH.
 
I hope Wiskus' shoulder isn't badly hurt. I am happy to see him make the world team, he is dependable on every event, especially important when you take 2 gymnasts who don't perform on all apparatus. If one of the all arounders get hurt during the team event we could be SOL. I assume Nelson trains the bars events?

Nelson did PB on Thursday and HB on Saturday. Both scores were low, but he can do them.

Also would anyone like my lottery numbers? :lol:
 
Kam scored 12.25 on High Bar on day 2. On day 1 he did parallel Bars and scored 13.2. He did Pommels at 2025 Winter Cup scoring 11.35.
 
So many of the athletes looked tired today. It doesn't bode well for that mixed event that was added to Olympics. Hopefully we won't have a replay of the Paris beam final.

I have to disagree. I think Peszek talks way, way too much and repeats the same things over and over again, adding little of substance. I love Laurie Hernandez in general, but she doesn't add much and often talks over the others. I also find the interviewer (Brenda?) quite annoying - she comes off as overly cheery, like a beauty pageant contestant.

Britany Eurton. She is actually an excellent thoroughbred racing analyst that worked for TVG/FanDual at one time. She does NBC broadcasts of racing now. NBC, has turned her into a “beauty pageant contestant” 😢

I’m comparing to Trautwig, Daggett, and Schlegel/Liukin. This is a massive improvement.
