Kill of Night by Gin Wigmore, it honestly made me more excited for the show when I heard the song, it's been one of my favourite songs for years. I agree with you about a strong skater with the right attitude making a great program out of it.

I fell in love with Shetland and Douglas Henshell, on BritBox. A great moody detective series with spectacular scenery. After my Scotland trip, I’m wistfully wanting to return, so this series is the best I can do.

It’s something like 12 seasons long and I’m up to Season 4. I may abandon it when Doug leaves after Season 7.

Give it a try.
Alison O’Donnell, who is playing Tosh, will leave the series after 13 years. For me she is the heart of the show.

Sunday night releases are fairly common for HBO. What has me is the 9pm ET time slot - the same one that Euphoria had. And this show has a TV-MA rating.

The first episode of Lanterns is now out on HBO Max. Overall, I’m definitely intrigued enough to keep watching it. Kyle Chandler is always a smart idea when it comes to television shows.

The show definitely has a Neo-Western feel to it. I like it, but I’m a life long fan of the Western genre and am used to that kind of pace.

also I canceled most of my subs including the cock and I added broadwayhd.com. there's so much on there that I like.

I have a subscription to PBS and I was going to watch the first two hours of "Bergerac" and ended up binging the whole series. The mystery was good and twisty. Some things you could predict and some things were a surprise. Good show!

Again late to the party but I am almost to the end of the first season of Ride or Die (last episode to watch, tonight) and have been enjoying it so much! Streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Update: Kit Harington is replacing Nicholas Hoult as Gilderoy Lockhart.

Honestly, I was a bit about the idea of Hoult in that role.

The second episode of Lanterns is now out on HBO Max. Well, they know now to make viewers come up with tons of theories about what’s actually going on in Rushville, don’t they?

Here are my thoughts: I don’t think there is just one Mindhunter in Rushville. There’s either a bunch of them there or there’s also something else. The whole town is too weird. They need alien detectors for the football games that most of the townspeople attend. The hospital was so sparse. And the sheriff is from Gotham, but somehow ended up in the middle of nowhere Nebraska?

I really like what I have see so far with Lanterns and Reacher season 4 but I am gonna wait until all the episodes drop before finishing both series .

I am trying but I keep falling asleep during the show. Somehow I think that says more about me than the show. What I stayed awake for was pretty good.

I love Ricky Gervais so of course I am watching him star in the animated "Alley Cats" on Netflix. Irreverant and fun.

I ran into a show on Netflix called "The Audacity." It was on AMC--critics loved it but it never seemed to find an audience. Even so season two is in the works which makes me happy because I binged season one last week. It was the kind of dark satire I needed a with both loathsome and likable characters. And the story moved right along and I loved that.

I saw on line today that DiNozzo is returning to NCIS this season. Tony & Ziva did not get renewed, not really a surprise to me... I like the character, though, and will be curious to see this after I renew my Paramount subscription.

I have been streaming episodes of a Canadian TV show called "Hudson and Rex", which is about a Detective in the Major Crimes Squad of the St. John's, Newfoundland, police department and his remarkable dog, Rex. Rex makes Lassie look like an indulged pet. Rex is a true "police dog" solving crimes and saving lives.

In real life, Diesel von Burgimwald (Rex) was a CKC Canadian Champion German Shepherd, who was at least as talented and special as the dog he portrayed. Two of his nephews replaced him when he died, and he had two stunt dogs so he didn't get hurt on the show. The list of his real life exploits is remarkable, but that's not why I'm posting this.

Every time I watch this show, I'm struck by a number of incongruities. #1 is "Nobody speaks Newfie". Newfoundlanders have a very distinctive accent that makes them instantly recognizable as "Newfies". None of the human characters on the show have a Newfie accent. We see the pastel houses, and the location is clearly St. John's so listening to people on the show speak without that accent, is jarring.

#2 is the plot lines. Most of them center around solving murders. There were 6 murders in St. John's in 2025, which was a 300% increase from the 2 murders in 2024. Even Toronto only had 45 murders in all of 2025, so having a show in St. John's centered around solving a murder every week is a huge stretch.

#3 is the cast. St. John's is the second whitest city in Canada with 85% of the population being white. Of 18 regular and recurring cast members on the show, 7 of them are visible minorities - none of whom are indigineous people, and none of whom have a Newfie accent.

I like the show, I like the cast, and I even like the plots, but it's just that showing a few shots of the pastel houses and the shore line doesn't make it seem like this is a show about Newfoundland at all. It seems more like a show about a eastern US city of indeterminate location.

This is not a spoiler: That Irish actress who plays the killer is one terrific actress. I hope she gets some recognition when this show will be in the nomination process. I'm kind of rooting for her too. This is a good show.

During baseball season, I subscribe to Sportsnet which carries most of the Blue Jay games live. But unless our season extends into October (highly unlikely), I will be cancelling my subscription at the end of September since I don't watch enough basketball to justify the expense, and I never watch hockey. I will retain my TSN, Crave (package deal for these two) and Stack TV memberships, but the only things I watch on Sportsnet are Jays games and poker.

What I will be doing between now and until the beginning of March, is buying a one-month subscription to various streaming services to watch shows on these channels I may be interested in, and then cancel when I'm up to date. I got this idea from Rock2 and this will be my third off-season doing it.

I haven't seen the Good Ship Murder yet. I also hadn't noticed the feeding thing, but it's unlikely that a real officer would allow or encourage anyone to give his dog food while on duty. I do chuckle that they're not immediately suspicious of anyone Rex doesn't like, because they always turn out to be the bad guy/girl.

They shoot in St. John's. The show is produced entirely in Newfoundland. They could hire local actors for some of the non-recurring roles, like the next door neighbour to the suspect who tells them she's not home, or coffee shop customers/staff, which would solve the jarring lack of local accents.

Taking about accents, my partner and I watched Shetland and thought the one detective (not the lead role, the more junior blonde guy) had a really fake accent. It just sounded so put on. Turns out that he had the most authentic accent of the ongoing cast.

Finally a good episode of Strange New Worlds (ep.6). The rest of the season so far has been 'I guess that was okay' at best.

Though I did have to put up with my ex-physicist husband snorting derisively throughout the entire dialogue about neutrinos.

You're right. The producers freely admit that the Canadian show is inspired by the long running Austrian original. Even how the detective came to get the dog is the same, although the name of the detective has been made more British.

The accent thing is odd because the show pays so much attention to the location being St. John's. It's filmed entirely in and around the city. They also use a lot of outdoor exteriors of the colourful houses, as well as views of the ocean. It's not just the accents that are unique to the region. Everything about St. John's that makes it special and unique is showcased, except the accents.

This is why I busted out laughing when I saw that they made a crime show about Saint Pierre.

They did use a Newfoundland actor in that one though, Allan Hawco.

Oddly enough Saint Pierre is renewed for a second season.

I'm looking forward to season 2 of North of North coming this month.

I ended up binging "Furious." I loved the three main female characters on the show. And I loved Alden too. And Scoot McNairy is always solid. I hope this show is remembered during awards season.

There was a live streaming event on Sunday where the cast of The Pitt did a reading of the first of the original Star Trek episodes to air, The Man Trap aka the Salt Vampire. There was a reading of an episode from the cartoon series as well by a somewhat different group of actors.

Nathan Fillion played Kirk in the cartoon episode and did a spot on imitation of Shatner, really amazing and hilarious! Noah Wylie played Kirk in the other reading and was very good, with much of the right candence and emphasis on words, but not really mimicking Shatner quite as much. It was super entertaining. I think you can still make a donation to the writers guild foundation to see it.

I did notice in the famous voice over to start each episode, Wylie changed it to “where no one has gone before.” All the writing was dated and so I don’t think he should have done that.

The other thing was that the scene narrator did not know how to pronounce Uhura. Which is odd because he was a voice actor in, I think, Lower Decks or maybe the cartoon series. He kept saying YOUhura.

Awesome! I thought it was one and done. I hope we still run into a few of the characters from this season next season. I did think there were a few lose ends in the finale. Hopefully all who are guilty are punished. There are so many scenes of Alden being ornery with the FBI that made me laugh. I love a good mystery which covers all of the bases emotionally.
