Really? Because the IOC is pretty happy to protect them. Happy enough to tell the US that getting the SLC games in conditional on leaving this whole thing alone...

We already signed the contract for LA 2028 long before this issue reared it's ugly head. It's SLC 2034 that is conditional on the USOPC getting Congress to back off. Good luck with that.

Whether the athletes knew or not, they gained a competitive advantage. An example had to be made.
Meanwhile, the Chinese swimmers get a free pass on their doping.

"Canadian high jumper Derek Drouin was among 10 past Olympians who received new or upgraded medals at a special ceremony today in Paris. Before he won gold in 2016 in Rio, Drouin took bronze in 2012 in London. But the winner there was stripped of his title for a doping violation, bumping Drouin up to silver."

Seems like it was actually 2012. They're saying he won gold in 2016 but the reallocation of medals is from 2012.
