It wasn't just a meeting with the Prime Minister of Denmark - it was a State visit so would have been an invitation from Queen Margrethe. Unbelievable insult!!
I am sure that everyone in Denmark, including their Queen, is delighted that Shithead Trump is staying away.

This whole day's news updates in this thread so far have been incredibly depressing. I mean they usually are, but today just seems even worse than usual.
Not done yet! He called the Prime Minister of Denmark nasty and mentioned President Obama TWENTY times in 30 minutes (not in a complimentary way!).
"second coming of Jesus”
If we're going with biblical themes, maybe he meant he was the first sign of the Apocalypse. hee hee

What is depressing is that he still has fans--many fans. Many devoted fans.

Haven't heard from some of our resident Trump fans in a while. Wonder where they are taking cover?

Earlier today, he also was back on the "ending birthright citizenship" train. Someone from CNN said it "might" be unconstitutional. I looked it up and "all persons born in the United States" seems pretty clear-cut to me. Is there any wiggle room that I'm not seeing?
I would say no, but it just might turn out to be an interesting test for all those originalists on the Court.

Yeah, he really showed them.

Sorry Americans. but your president is totally mentally ill. I am absolutely flabbergasted by his last actions and words. I was holyshitting all day long while reading news and his Twitter.
Even Turkmenistan's president looks sane and rational next to Trump, and the guy plays bowling on TV.

I would really like to see a grocery store chain start labeling their produce “brought to you by migrant workers” so people understand how important migrant workers truly are to the American economy.
Everyone knows how important immigrants are! They just want them to be legal immigrants. So many of the trump voting farmers or business owners knowingly employ undocumented people. They say they aren’t going to be law enforcement. They aren’t going to tell. They want to keep the low wage labor. They want to keep their business. Republicans probably have more day to day experience with undocumented in many areas

Why is the Danish queen shocked that Trump cancelled? Has she been living under a rock for the past three years?
Presumably because Queen Margrethe expected that even Trump wouldn't be so absurd - even if only out of shallow self-interest, given how much he seems to have enjoyed meeting Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Margrethe has a lovely family and many interests and hobbies. Presumably she does not follow every inane thing Trump does and says, because it's clear what he is without paying constant attention.

Point of info: Pres. Obama is scheduled to visit Denmark 28 Sept. I bet Trump found that out and didn’t want to have comparisons of welcoming crowds.

Funny - I haven't even looked at this video, but a couple Saturdays ago I was watching parts of West Side Story and was thinking how the asides from Bernardo in the song "America" could be sung to trump today.

Falun Gong is working actively for Trump on facebook, being the biggest buyer of Trump ads with both real and fake news.. They appear to believe he is chosen to destroy (nuke?) China, bring on the end times, when Falun Gong go to heaven, and Chinese Communists go to hell.

Maybe Putin needs to tell Trump not to nuke China?

I hope that sane people realize how dangerous these "true believers" really are!

I doubt that there is any "rational" explanation.

😱 So that's what The Epoch Times is. Good god, as if we need another source of insanity.

Speaking of insanity, apparently Sen. Tom Cotton claims buying Greenland was his idea. And that it makes perfect sense.

Some of the fall out on the international level from Trump's conduct of the presidency is less obvious but very dangerous.

For one, an indirect result of his failure to have a coherent policy in Asia:
South Korea Says It Will Scrap Intelligence-Sharing Deal With Japan (NY Times)

South Korea said on Thursday that it would abandon a military intelligence-sharing pact with Japan, a move that dramatically escalates tensions between the two countries and offers fresh evidence of the United States’ declining presence in the region.

The South Korean decision on the security agreement — a pact the United States had pushed in part to ensure tight monitoring of North Korea’s missile activity — had been awaited as a barometer of relations between Seoul and Tokyo, America’s two closest Asian allies.
And how the Greenland nutiness could have long-term consequences if it becomes normalized (e.g. if Republicans react by covering for Trump.)
Trump has defected (The Atlantic)

It is one thing to float a cockamamie idea that no one believes is serious or will go anywhere. “Let’s buy Greenland!” Yes, very funny. A good distraction from the economy, the failure to deal with white supremacy, White House staff problems, or whatever is the news of the day. It is quite another to use leverage and impose costs on Denmark in pursuit of that goal—and make no mistake, canceling a presidential visit is using leverage and imposing costs.

This is the kind of thing the Russians and the Chinese do. It is territorial revisionism—the use of national power to acquire territory against the desire of its sovereign government and its people. The use of leverage would also call into question the U.S. commitment to the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, which is the cornerstone of stability in Europe. In it, all parties, including the United States, commit to “refrain from any demand for, or act of, seizure and usurpation of part or all of the territory” of all states in Europe.
I came across this anonymous comment elsewhere on the internet:
Anyone who's known someone with narcissistic personality disorder -- which diagnosis describes Trump with precision -- realizes that it's when the person senses a loss of control that they get dangerous. When they can't bend reality sufficiently to their will and don't get the praise they're convinced they perpetually deserve, they melt down. No surprise that we're seeing this with Trump.
The danger is that Republicans will keep covering for Trump even as he goes further and further down this road. They don't see a choice because if they stop supporting him, Democrats likely take power. The question they have to ask themselves is which, really, is worse? I am afraid they have convinced themselves that Democrats if they take power will turn the country socialist and disenfranchise white voters, and various other crackpot beliefs that have no relationship to reality but which keep them trapped in an embrace of Trump.

There has been no covering for Trump by republicans in DC! They didn’t fund his wall, passed Russia sanctions, won’t pass nafta 2, and so much more! Ryan left congress and helped democrats take over the house!

Look at all the nevertrumpers and how many might run against him in 2020!! Walsh weld Kasich going to NH Romney Sasse etc etc

The Guardian reports:

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the campaign arm of House Republicans is offering donors who contribute more than $25 a limited edition t-shirt that depicts Greenland as a 51st US state.

David Frum's pinned tweet is "When this is all over, nobody will admit to ever having supported it". I think that's very true.

I don't like that Bibi was such a doormat with respect to the Tlaib/Omar visit, but the Greenland fallout does show what the alternative might have been. Trump put him an in impossible situation, and congressional Democrats should recognize this.

What do you think they should do?

Not act like Bibi alone was at fault for this fiasco - which some have. Avoid provocative suggestions to withdraw Israel's foreign aid (largely spent in the US anyway) because the executive and legislative branches are in disagreement.

Nancy Pelosi spoke with President Ruvi Rivlin yesterday:

If I were a foreign leader, I'd rather deal with Pelosi, too.
