Dangers of a Trump Presidency--Part 7

Trump's hijacking of the 4th of July celebration cost the DC government $1.7 million. It came out of a special fund that is meant to protect the city from terrorist threats and provide security at rallies and events like state funerals and that is now more or less depleted. The article also mentions that the Trump inauguration never repaid the city the $7.3 million it spent. (Shocker. Trump hasn't paid a bill).
Why did the city not refuse to host the event/pay anything other than what they would normally pay (which, according to the article, would have been six times less) especially since they're still waiting for the money from the inauguration? If you don't pay, you can't expect service.
Probably because the actual event was on federal land so D.C. couldn't veto it and as long as it was going on we had to spend the money we did because it was happening or we'd have been worse off. The mayor is asking for reimbursement which needless to say will require some political pressure or it won't happen.

Forgot about the federal land, but couldn't they have told them to take care of additional security? Isn't DC in control of how much manpower they provide?

We're not going to fail to protect our own city. There's a lot of stuff we have to do. So we do it.

It probably would be different if we had statehood.

Trump signed an EO to with initiatives meant to improve kidney dialysis and the transplantation system. (And yes, this does look like it's something good that he's done. Although, I'm guessing, it's going to be a moot point for everyone insured by the ACA if his DOJ and party manage to kill it.) https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/trump-to-order-overhaul-of-organ-transplant-and-kidney-dialysis-systems/2019/07/09/6fa803d0-a1c8-11e9-bd56-eac6bb02d01d_story.html?utm_term=.f0ebb8ed6542

The 4th circuit ruled that the DC and MD AG don't have the legal standing to bring their emoluments lawsuit. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/legal-issues/appeals-court-dismisses-emoluments-lawsuit-involving-president-trumps-dc-hotel/2019/07/10/4a4b6190-886e-11e9-98c1-e945ae5db8fb_story.html?utm_term=.098918aae3fc

DOL's financial plans for 2020 include gutting the budget for the International Labor Affairs Bureau which translates into 80% less money to fight international sex trafficking. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jul/09/labor-secretary-alexander-acosta-sex-trafficking-budget-cut

I guess, I'm just tired of him doing all these things and no one is telling him no. He gets away with everything, whether it's breaking the law or wasting money or something else. :(

Old articles but in light of Acosta's budget cuts and Trump's association with Epstein the internet re-upped the little media coverage there was of Trump's OK and KY campaign chairs. They have both plead guilty to child sex trafficking charges. What is it with this man and sex offenders?

Trump is guilty of sex trafficking and married one of his sex trafficked people and because pelosi won’t impeach trump her husband may also be involved in sex trafficking

First, McConnell said strengthening voting rights was undemocratic, now, Democrats are making election security a political issue. I'm not sure whether to :wall: or  . Maybe a little bit of both? https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/10/mcconnell-obama-russia-election-security-1405742
How many more federal bills and federal money are needed when this is a state issue as states run elections? Plus twitter and Facebook can ban all Russia based accounts that post in English on American politics anyway! When you join or go to twitter or Facebook they know where you are.

So why did this have to be an EO? It seems like something Congress would be happy to pass with bi-partisan support.

I’m actually welcoming Trump’s escalating tweets about the census decision. It will only offend John Roberts and make it less likely Roberts will change his mind about this issue.

I really hope so! (I also hope that Roberts will take issue with the fact that the administration might have misled (at best) / lied to (at worst) the Supreme Court. They said they had to bypass the appeals court because they had to have a decision by June 30th. Now, that Trump doesn't like the decision they suddenly have more time?)

Jeffrey Epstein Was a ‘Terrific Guy,’ Donald Trump Once Said. Now He’s ‘Not a Fan.’
Roger J. Stone Jr., the former Trump adviser, wrote in his book “The Clintons’ War on Women,” which was published during the campaign, that Mr. Trump “turned down many invitations to Epstein’s hedonistic private island and his Palm Beach home.” Once when Mr. Trump visited Mr. Epstein at his Palm Beach home, Mr. Stone wrote about the scene of underage girls he witnessed there.

“The swimming pool was filled with beautiful young girls,” Mr. Trump later told a Mar-a-Lago member, according to Mr. Stone. “‘How nice,’ I thought, ‘he let the neighborhood kids use his pool.’”

Fortunately, when one gets to end stage renal failure requiring transplant or dialysis, Medicare kicks in. (Of course, Trumplicans are looking to end that, too.)

Even though Congress denied ICE more detention money, they have started to use three additional private prisons as detention centers to detain more migrants. The conditions at one of the prisons are so bad that they played a role in Obama's decision to stop using private prisons and even the current DOJ stopped using it in May. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/07/ice-just-quietly-opened-three-new-detention-centers-flouting-congress-limits/
Well it’s going to be close to 500,000 migrants in 5 months! the best detention centers are overwhelmed and collapsing! So they had to send migrants to lesser facilities for processing

Late in seeing this, but Fox News did a live segment at a sports bar in Lyon, France, after the U.S. women's soccer team won the World Cup, and the crowd went into an impromptu "F*ck Trump" chant. How awkward for the reporter:

Apparently, Trump did not take it well.

"Yazmin Juárez, whose 19-month-old daughter died weeks after being released from ICE detainment in 2018, testified before Congress today, describing the mistreatment she faced while seeking asylum. Her testimony, at times, brought @AOC to tears. http://bit.ly/30t9reS"

Ms. Juarez said in a phone interview with ICE officials, they barely let her speak and after asking her why she came to this country, Ms. Juarez answered to give her and her daughter a better life. The ICE official then said that "You know, this country is for Americans; Donald Trump is my President; And we can take your daughter away from you; And lock you in jail."

I haven't really been following this but it seems unfortunate
White House kills plan to lower drug prices by ending hidden rebates, complicating its bid to make health care a focus of 2020 race

Notably, "Big Pharma" or some aspect of it has been running radio ads on D.C.'s all news station that play the clip of Trump saying "Our country will never be socialist" and then saying but Trump is pursuing a policy on drug pricing that would be (in short) socialist. I wonder if this argument had an effect?

Trump's now-deleted Tweet is really worrisome regarding his mental health. I know it's unethical to diagnose someone who is not your client AND obviously most people who say this are NOT doctors, but he's really opening himself up with all these tweets and comments that even the most understanding person will have to wonder.

His now deleted tweet was part of a series of tweets about awful fake news organizations...he then called Joe Biden "Sleepy Joe Biden" and then posted this:

"...or a very nervous and skinny version of Pocahontas (1000/24th), as your President, rather than what you have now, so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius! Sorry to say that even Social Media would be driven out of business along with, and finally, the Fake News Media!"
