It would only mean havoc because Republicans like McConnell -unlike trump -only want to attack Medicare for all and the subsequent banning of private healthcare rather than create their own healthcare plan!!! Essentially McConnell supports Obamacare now as it’s more conservative than Medicare for all

The DOJ is switching out the lawyers for the census case. No reason has been given.
The original lawyers probably didn’t want to ruin the rest of their careers by perjuring themselves. They had come up with a shaky rationale that the Court didn’t buy so they probably didn’t to say, “OK, we didn’t really mean that first reason, now we’ve got THIS one that we REALLY mean.”

Waiting for Trump to tweet about his good friend who was indicted on sex trafficking over the weekend. After all they've been buds for years and Epstein said he wanted his modeling agency to be like Trumps. The modeling agency he ran underaged girls through.

"It takes a really twisted mind to imagine that those of us who are Democrats would care if a Democrat is caught up in this Jeffrey Epstein case. Men who rape minors need to be exposed for the predators they are. That’s not a partisan issue unless you’re a sociopath."
To piggyback:

"Republicans who assume liberals will try to protect an accused pedophile just bc he’s on their side politically are really telling on themselves"

Every time something like this happens, if you're first instinct is "whataboutism" it shows your true colors and your love of projecting bad behavior onto your enemies because you think everyone will think of this issue in a partisan, tribal way the way you do.

Admittedly, Clinton did get away with a lot, and I'm talking beyond Lewinsky. But it's been more than 20 years and a whole new generation of people have been taking that to task as we're slowly evolving our understanding of sexual assault and power dynamics between men and women. Furthermore, what's with some self-identified conservatives thinking we're all as obsessed with Bill Clinton as they are.

A gentle reminder: What to Do If You Sea a Stranded Sea Lion

Don’t touch and do not pick up, pour water on or feed the animal. ...
Do not return the animal to the water. ...
Observe the animal from a distance of at least 50 feet. ...
Note physical characteristics such as size, presence of external earflaps, and fur color. ...
Note the animal’s condition. ...
Note distinguishing marks. ...
Note location. ...
Seek help.
If following these guidelines would be too stressful, then just add the sea lion to your Ignore List. :)

The young woman who accused Trump of rape and wanted to come forward in 2016 and then decided not to alleged that she was raped by Trump at Epstein's mansion. https://twitter.com/iansmadrig/status/1068606178723270656

And Republicans keep protecting him.

(Was Clinton ever accused of assaulting a minor?)
It’s not just republicans who are protecting Trump!!! Pelosi is trumps number one protector because she thinks democrats impeach trump they lose the house. Pelosi Is trumps main asset!

Bill Clinton is a sleazebag who ran around with Jeffrey Epstein and engaged in activities that were at the least suspicious.

And if he hangs for it, metaphorically speaking, then let him twist in the wind.

If we all agree to these things, can we then talk about Trump and Epstein in the Trump thread without having the "BUT CLINTON" attempts at counterargument? Trump's actions, whatever they are, are no better or worse because of Clinton's actions, whatever they are, so what exactly is the point?

Every time something like this happens, if you're first instinct is "whataboutism" it shows your true colors and your love of projecting bad behavior onto your enemies because you think everyone will think of this issue in a partisan, tribal way the way you do.
I think this a good example of that:

"The former Acting US Attorney for the Southern District of California and the Assistant US Attorney leading the investigation of Congressman Hunter both attended a political fundraiser for candidate Clinton and shortly thereafter both were involved in initiating an investigation of the first Congressman to endorse candidate Trump. These facts alone warranted recusal" of the two attorneys, Hunter's lawyers wrote in a court filing.

Essentially, lawyers can't vote. If they participate in the political process, they are, by this definition, prejudicially biased. We cannot function like this.

Barr says he would support Mueller if he chose not to testify and that Mueller's testimony will be a public spectacle. (Unlike his press conference, apparently :shuffle:). He also says that the DOJ will block Mueller's team should Congress ask them to testify. (Another shocker). https://apnews.com/413061794ba14c6eb15173251388fcbc

It appears that House Democrats plan to hold Barr and Ross in criminal contempt. (At times, I wonder if things like these are concessions Pelosi makes when pressure for impeachment threatens to grow). https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/08/criminal-contempt-william-barr-wilbur-ross-census-1402210

The majority of House Democrats who support an impeachment inquiry serve on committees that are investigating Trump. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/27/pelosi-investigators-impeachment-inquiry-1383835

Pompeo established a commission to provide him with information on the "role of human rights in American foreign policy". If this were any other administration, it wouldn't alarm me. But since this is the Trump administration, I can't help but wonder if they want to water down the definition of human rights so that certain countries like Saudi Arabia suddenly commit less human rights violations. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/08/pompeo-panel-unalienable-rights-1400023

This is where the problem begins!!

168 family units and unaccompanied minors show up.

They all have to be detained and processed because they entered America without a visa outside of a port of entry

Yesterday, Weslaco Border Patrol Agents took a group of 168 illegal aliens into custody in Hidalgo, Texas. The group consisted of family units and unaccompanied children from Central America, Venezuela and Cuba.

The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector continue to experience an influx of illegal aliens crossing into the area. The number of apprehensions in the RGV this fiscal year has surpassed the apprehensions numbers during the humanitarian crisis experienced in 2014.”

This has happened hundred and hundred of times! That’s why the number is 400,000 in 4 months.

And that is precisely the point of rightwing politics today: the end of the functioning of our democratic republican system by aggressively pushing the belief that there can be no fairness from anyone or any institution.

I don't see how we get out of this though.

Judge Furman isn't playing regarding the DOJ wanting to replace their lawyers with a new team in the Census case:

A federal judge in New York blocked the Justice Department on Tuesday from replacing almost all of the lawyers defending the Trump administration’s efforts to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, saying the government had not offered adequate reasoning for why it wanted new counsel.

I think this is the best quote from the decision: "As this Court observed many months ago, this case has been litigated on the premise -- based 'in no small part' on Defendants' own 'insist(ence)' -- that the speedy resolution of Plaintiffs' claims is a matter of great private and public importance."

From what I have read, switching out lawyers is often a strategic move because the new lawyers can file for an extension so they have time to get up to speed on the case.

Meanwhile, Barr is apparently open to the idea that Trump can issue an executive order to put the question on the census, in spite of the Supreme Court ruling.

Apparently, it's completely up in the air how the judges will rule in the ACA lawsuit. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/09/obamacare-lawsuit-1404171

The ACA’s future appeared murky after two hours of oral arguments at the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but it’s not clear if the judges were ready to uphold a federal judge’s earlier decision invalidating the law.
The three-judge appellate panel is expected to rule in the coming months. They could back the lower court ruling invalidating all of Obamacare or overturn it entirely. The judges may also determine that the elimination of the individual mandate penalty only renders certain parts of the ACA unconstitutional, such as its protections for individuals with preexisting medical conditions. That was the Trump administration’s original stance on the lawsuit before recently embracing the lower court ruling against the entire ACA.

Judge Kurt Engelhardt, a Trump appointee, pointed out that Congress could settle the dispute over the health law’s future by immediately stripping out the individual mandate entirely, eliminating the basis for the lawsuit. He also questioned why the Republican-controlled Senate hasn’t weighed in on the lawsuit.
(Does he really have to ask, considering that the election is only a little over a year away?)

Still, what happens next in the courts isn't clear. During the Tuesday hearing, theRepublican-appointed judges raised numerous questions about whether any party had any legal standing to challenge the ACA’s constitutionality in the first place or to appeal the federal judge’s earlier ruling against the ACA.

...

The judges could toss the entire lawsuit if they determined the red states who brought the case haven’t suffered any harm from the removal of the individual mandate penalty.

Some disturbing reports of sexual assault of children and retaliation by Border Patrol Agents for complaining about conditions at a detention center in Yuma, Arizona.

Some reports of a Border Patrol agent putting his hands under a 16-year-old girl's bra and removing her underwear and groping her while laughing with fellow agents in English. Other reports of forcing children to sleep on concrete after taking their sleeping mats away due to complaining about the poor taste of food and water. One child wore soiled underwear for ten days due to being too afraid to ask for a change of underwear due to observing angry reactions of agents to other children requesting things.

The Trump gold resort in Doral, FL will host a golf tournament that is organized by a strip club. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/strip-club-to-host-golf-tournament-at-trump-resort-in-south-florida/2019/07/09/52a83504-a266-11e9-bd56-eac6bb02d01d_story.html?utm_term=.f6ab3790668c

Mancuso said there would be no nudity at the resort. On the course, he said, the caddies would wear pink miniskirts and what he called “a sexy white polo.” Afterward, however, the golfers and the dancers would return to another venue — the cabaret itself — for what he described as a “very tasteful” burlesque show, which could involve nudity.

...

In a statement, the Trump Organization confirmed the event is happening and said it was for a “worthwhile cause” — a Miami children’s charity.
Could the optics and timing be any worse?

Plus, there's this:
Online advertisements for the tournament also include logos for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA.

...

The charity’s website says it is “a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Florida.” However, Franco Ripple, a spokesman for the state, said Tuesday that it is not registered as a charity in Florida. Alamilla did not immediately respond to questions about why his organization’s name was missing from state records.

...

A spokeswoman for the NBA and WNBA said that the leagues were not affiliated with the tournament and that their logos were used in the ads without permission.

Trump's hijacking of the 4th of July celebration cost the DC government $1.7 million. It came out of a special fund that is meant to protect the city from terrorist threats and provide security at rallies and events like state funerals and that is now more or less depleted. The article also mentions that the Trump inauguration never repaid the city the $7.3 million it spent. (Shocker. Trump hasn't paid a bill).
Why did the city not refuse to host the event/pay anything other than what they would normally pay (which, according to the article, would have been six times less) especially since they're still waiting for the money from the inauguration? If you don't pay, you can't expect service.
