Dancing with the Stars - Season 35

Thank you for all the playlists @Sylvia - they're appreciated!

I got surprised (again!) tonight because the 9PM DWTS show on CityTV was actually yesterday's show (the men) and they will show the ladies tomorrow, a day behind ABC. At least I'll get two chances per week to watch.

I did get to see Julia Stiles but missed Amber.

OMG the voice on Mark Ballas' partner. :yikes:

Amber was good but a little stiff, I get what the judges were saying about her doing steps into the floor. I loved Maura she seems quite the character and for not having any dance experience she was amazing. Julia was very good, thats my top three for the women.

Sorry but this 'After Party' show is a complete waste of time and not needed. It's just people sitting around talking? Does ABC really have nothing else to fill an hour timeslot?

Glenn is more interesting than Country Barbie who won the year that Zendaya should have.

Ah, but Kellie had Derek Hough for a partner. Not only was he one of the best choreographers out there (and still is, imo), but he had a huge fan base of his own. Val was still pretty new at that time, IIRC. I think that 2nd place with Zendaya was his best finish up to that point.

Amber looks like she wanted higher scores. Solid start though!

The judges did state more than once this week that they were leaving room for improvement with the scores. Which makes sense. If you get 8s and 9s the first week there isn't much room to move up. And I thought Amber, while she did really well, looked a little uncomfortable. I thought it was interesting when Carrie Ann pointed out that Amber was used to carrying the performance load all on her own, and needed to rely more on her partner. It was a good observation, IMO.

I've only watched Amber and Julia so far. I'd have scored Amber higher. I love that Julia danced to "9 to 5," but she was stiff and the opening choreography did her no favors.

Zendaya had the right feet, which is almost unheard if for the stars, and Country Barbie had no turnout or epaulement.

I'm entertained by Coach Jackie J and her "brutally honest review" :D of DWTS 35 night 1 (she's a huge fan of Amber's and Amber follows her):
Night 2:

As others have pointed out, DWTS is, at its heart, a popularity contest. The dancing is still a factor, because it counts for half the overall score, but ultimately, people aren't really voting for the best dancer, they vote for the pairs they like the best/enjoy watching the most. How else do you account for Bobby Bones winning his season, or Andy Richter making it so far last year, despite the judges' low scores for their dancing?

Kellie and Derek had more of a fan base than Zendaya and Val did at that time. I think if Zendaya and Val were competing this season, they'd run away with it, no matter who their competition was.

I did too. It looked like the comment resonated with Amber as well. I hope she'll be able to let go more next week.

This may even help her competition skating in the future.

In the great FSU tradition, I reserve the right to air and re-air and re-air my wuzrobbed grievances when the opportunity presents itself, however randomly and however tangentially on topic :).

Top Five prediction (in no particular order): Ezra, Harry, Amber, Julia, Maura. Alternate is Tyler.

I agree with you. Taylor is kind of a dark horse though, IMO. He wasn't terrible for having no prior experience, and I think him being a Hanson brother has a stronger nostalgia factor than some might realize. Plus he seems like a genuinely likeable person. That's a surprisingly strong element when it comes to the right formula for going far on this show. (See: Andy Richter.)

On another note, I'm a little worried about Giada. She seems to be more fragile physically than I'd realized. I just hate to see anyone getting injured.

I think it will be Tyler Cameron over Taylor Hanson. :-)

Agree on how fragile Giada appears to be. From my seat on the sofa, her lines were awful. But the judges praised her effusively -- maybe just to milk the tears for TV? Who knows, but I don't think her lines or movement merited such praise.

I was glad to realise that I could actually vote 10 times for Amber and still vote for someone else. 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my all time favourite movies so I feel like I should throw some votes at Julia Stiles as well.

Julia is one of my faves as well. I'm definitely rooting for Amber to take the mirror ball, but I wouldn't cry if Julia won.
