I know many of you aren't impacted by this sporting event but I am settling down to watch the Opening Ceremony and am thrilled to see Michael Johnson is going to be commentating on the Athletics and is in the studio for the opening ceremony :grope::smokin:. What more does a girl want on a dismal rainy morning here in the UK :D

'ello, I'm here too.

Cool opening segment so far.

Especially liked the wedge-tail eagle graphic. The superior eagle.

That was a beautiful rendition. And the emphasis on the indigenous tribes is very powerful as well.

Scotland gets to go first because they were the last host!

haha the placards are surfboards.

Scotland in blue kilts and blue-and-white spliced shirts. Rather tidy.

We're doing it in regions, so Europe first. Cyprus first.

somebody have the athletes ears like the koala mascot

England next. Oh, their uniform looks kinda...cheap.

England now - Alistair Brownlee leading them out even though his race is tomorrow. Shorts and tee-shirts for the English!!

Hi Gibraltar! There seem to be a lot of them for a little place! But they're rocking the ombre!

Ooooh, pinstripes for Guernsey. A bit eye-hurting.

I do like how UK separates out into not just the 4 home nations but also Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man!!!

Simple navy and white for Malta.

Oh, Wales looking very colourful in more Hawaiian shirts!

Africa next!

Cameroon in gorgeous black dresses and tunics with brightly coloured pattern trim - everyone seems to have a unique design, it's an early frontrunner for best dressed for me!

Mind you, Ghana is a pretty good look - pink and brown patterned dresses on the ladies, very bright waistcoats on the men. Looks woven.

Nigeria looking outstanding in white with metallic green splicing and hats.

Seychelles in blue shirts, pale blue ties, looking very sea-themed!

Sierra Leone takes the lead in the best-dressed race in awesome white traditional dress with blue spots, lots of ruffles, brilliant!

South Africa in plain blue polos and beige pants. (A bit boring. Especially after Sierra Leone.)

Back to awesome with Swaziland, with the ladies in white dresses with red and black patterned overskirts, and the men in white shirts with black and red pattern over the shoulders.

The Gambia in stunning pale blue traditional dress, absolutely gorgeous long robes (? for want of a better word).

Uganda with the ladies out front dancing in yellow shirts with red striping and scarves at their waists, and the men in red shirts with yellow and black pinstriping.

Tanzania in gold jackets and green pants!
