Carreira/Ponomarenko Need a Cheer Thread

Ugh. I'm having flashbacks to last season's Champ's Camp. At least they changed earlier this season. So, this is the new version? I wonder why they were asked to change and what they originally chose.
zingas/kolesnik were told to change their rd after the first camp also, so cpom was definitely not alone in this

I suspect it has something to do with the rhythms not being distinct enough or something idk but I feel like I heard other teams were being told this

Their RD is beautiful and within the now existing rules everything a Waltz RD should be. That being said, I have severe trust issues with the ice dance judging and I wouldn't put it past them punishing CPom for actually dancing in their RD. So, I am delighted with their RD, but crossing my fingers that judges finally stop being idiots and actually reward dancing on ice.

Yeah, look, I get why they're not going to defy their fed, but after the way the first half of last season panned out I think I'd have an awfully hard time trusting their feedback to result in my best outcomes.

So Scott gave them Notre Dame de Paris (was that last season?) and My Fair Lady this season? That's kinda funny. They look good!

To be fair, neither NDdP nor My Fair Lady feel that iconic to D/W, in my opinion. K/P also skated to My Fair Lady and the Audrey Hepburn link... well. Let's not forget CPom have had a number of programs, including Farrucas/Malagueña at NOVI and Carmen at IAMO (which Scott was quite opposed to at the beginning, so skaters have agency in their choices). Overall, I think CPom, like many teams from their generation, are very respectful of talented skaters from the past, both american and not, which I appreciate.

In tonight's Rockerskating podcast, Michelle Ellis named CPom's "My Fair Lady" RD - especially the first minute - as being the second of her "Summer Sizzler" standouts (timestamped link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYrlhRA-JoU&t=1722s
Thank you! They both had a lot of really good things to say, and Jackie thinks this set of programs really feels like they could be "career pivot" programs. What an exciting season we have to look forward to.

Also, in the latest Runthrough episode they praised them a lot. "That My Fair Lady RD is amazing, I love it, it's fabulous (...) They both shine so brightly in this (...) Having Scott with them, you're gonna learn great partnering for these patterns." Sarah predicting them to win nationals.
Excited for both their programs. Let's hope the season goes well and they are appreciated for how good they are.

the buzz is building which is a very very good thing

According to an interview with Anything GOES at Summer Sizzler, the judges at Champs Camp Part 1 strongly suggested that C/P should scrap My Fair Lady entirely, or, as they diplomatically put it, "strongly recommended to maybe go a different direction": https://anythinggoe.com/sizzler26/

Sometimes I wonder if this sort of feedback is accompanied by concrete suggestions of what judges and/or fed officials would rather see, or if it's left to skaters to discern the undefinable third thing that no one, not even the ISU, has dreamed of yet.

These judges are idiots. The My Fair Lady section is the stronger part of the RD. The "Sing Sing Sing" section is the one that should be changed - even selecting a slightly less used Big Band era song like "In the Mood" would have been a better choice.

ETA - I also have a strong suspicion this "advice" was coming from the USFS' resident, now ousted, IDTC bozo, Shawn Rettstatt, who has demonstrated a loathing of anything resembling a traditional waltz or decent RD "theme" during the past 4 seasons.

For the record, the Sing, Sing, Sing part was changed from the original. They said as much. It sounds like basically that was their compromise. They got told to scrap the entire thing, they said no, but we'll change the second half to show you that we will play ball somewhat.

I'd love to know what they had before they switched to Sing, Sing, Sing - but that doesn't change the fact that the Sing, Sing, Sing section is really incongruous with the My Fair Lady section and should be changed again. ;)

My theory is that it was all My Fair Lady. I mean they were heavily leaning into that with the costume sketches and stuff. I'm sure we'll find out in a random scott moir interview at a random time in the season. Also I doubt that rd is changing much, at least in the immediate. They are way to close to competition time.

That's my theory too. And I bet it was marvelous. I blame Shawn Rettstatt for telling them to change any of it. No, I don't know if he was at the Camp 2030 in CO Springs in July but we all know that man has an irrational hatred of any sort of traditional RD or waltz, so my head canon says he's the one who told them to change it.

I dont even know who to blame for CPom not having a full My Fair Lady rd, the judges and their idiotic suggetions or the ISU panel that make ice dancers come up with ANOTHER DIFFERENT rhythm to the golden waltz. Why cant we just have the golden waltz as the full rd and call it a day?

And now for the official professional Sizzler recording

I have to say, the way Anthony is pulling those edges at the beginning to so much better than where we were a couple seasons ago even. You can tell their coaches really work them lol. Also that Golden Waltz pattern is probably my favorite of all the ones I've seen so far.

Seems that is what Champs Camp is for although at some point skaters should choose what's true to them. But, that may be hardest with ice dance with music genre for one program being chosen for them.
