With a win in the Team Event now likely/nearly certain and a Patrick Chan gold very possible, can Canada surpass the U.S as the #2 skating nation in history behind Russia if they pull both off and have atleast 1 gold in all 5 skating disciplines now?

Patrick Chan gold? Is it 2014 again? And no Canada will not pass the U.S. The U.S has had 7 Ladies champions and numerous other Olympic medals while Canada usually goes about 16 years in between their Ladies winning any medals and a Canadian man has still never won gold while U.S men have won 7 also. Yes Canada has the edge in Pairs but not dominate like the U.S Ladies are compared to Canadian Ladies. As for Ice Dance U.S was weak at one time but now is the best Ice Dance country in the world from top to bottom.

For the record I do not think Chan is likely to win the gold. Just in the hypothetical scenario in a big upset he does.

And it is true the U.S is the deepest in dance now but I would not say historically speaking they are better than Canada in dance at all. Canada in fact probably has the edge in that event overall, and even today Canada has the better #1 team, and even arguably the better #2 team.
