Biden/Harris the new Democratic Slate for POTUS

Biden got an 8 point bump in one national poll today. Now I'm wondering if Trump will see this and decide that he'll dump Pence and then announce a new VP believing he'll get a bump from that as well.
But a lot of the polls are actually closer than they were a month or two ago. For a while, almost every outlet was reporting a 10+ Biden national lead (and Trumps hissy-fits). Even some of the states that looked like they were on a blue trajectory are either even or back slightly to Trump.

ETA- before someone says it: polls don’t mean much. But there was definitely a momentum building up that now seems to be slightly turning back the other way. Not enough to make it super close yet, but it is interesting.

The Trump ad I saw during Big Brother was all about the 11 million illegal immigrants and how they are all going to be fighting Americans for their jobs. 🙄

Yes, please, make that side continue to think that everyone who isn’t white is illegal and stealing everything away from those who work ‘so hard’. And before his fan club of five or less here chimes in, we all know the first line of defense for MAGA is ‘you don’t belong here’ or ‘go back to where you came from’, even to natural-born non-white citizens.

Trump may be dumb, but he's not so dumb that he would dump Pence for Haley at this point. If he did, he'd have to explain why Haley is eligible to be Vice President but Harris isn't.

He'd say it's different and that's that. (At least for him).

Yay on the vote for Biden! (y)

With regard to socialism ... As someone pointed out today on Twitter, the U.S. is the most materialistic, capitalistic country in the world, probably. (Seriously, who's got us beat? LOL.) So we likely have a long-- a very long-- a very very long-- way to go before we'll ever really be socialist. 🙃
Check out the attached chart, per capita income by country. Other than Switzerland and a few tax havens, we are pretty high on the list. Probably 180 countries have a lower per capital income. You will say there is income inequality here. Guess what, I've been to 20+ countries, and every one, rich or poor, capitalist or socialist, also had income inequality. Immigrants from the Indian subcontinent, who get off their a$$, work hard and work smart, have some of the highest incomes in the US, despite not being born here. Venezuela used to be relatively prosperous until they changed leadership to Chavez and Maduro, now there are food and medicine shortages and many have fled the country. The long long way you mention happened in a generation in Venezuela. People are fleeing NYC now due to *********, inept leadership and out of control crime, that is those with enough money to flee, which is something I never expected in my lifetime.' With nutcases running Minneapolis and Portland, they aren't doing much better. Those who rely on the MSM may not even be aware, as the MSM censors the bad news. I thank God I was fortunate to be born in the capitalist US with Trump running things. We don't know how good we have it, which is why I posted the chart. Now, you know as well.

ProPublica put together a retrospective of Harris' career using articles they've written about her. So it's not pontificating from hindsight but what they thought at the time. I find those really interesting.

I get three or four e-mails from the Trump Campaign daily. I've never contributed a single cent, nor have I ever had anything nice to say about Trump on social media or anywhere - in fact, the complete opposite. But I don't have myself unsubscribed because I'm fascinated by them so I guess they still have hope that one of their "best ever supporters" might someday give them something, lol. I contribute to Joe Biden's campaign, although very small amounts because I'm totally broke. The difference in the e-mails is night and day. Here's a sample of two recent e-mails from the Trump Campaign:

(my name),

Kamala Harris is the meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful, MOST LIBERAL of anyone in the U.S. Senate, and I cannot believe that Joe Biden would pick her as his running mate.

Everything we’re fighting for is on the line right now, (my name).

These two corrupt career politicians have made it clear that they want to protect sanctuary cities, protect criminals, take away your Second Amendment rights, and DESTROY America.

I’m calling on my best supporters to step up to the front lines and FIGHT BACK. This is SO important that I’ve upped the stakes.

(my name),

Wow.

Just when we thought the idea of Joe Biden being President of the United States couldn’t get any worse, he announces that Kamala Harris, a failed presidential candidate and a corrupt former California Attorney General, will be his running mate.

First, Kamala Harris attacked Joe Biden’s racist policies (did she forget?).

Next, she ends her pathetic run at President.

Then, 3 months after ending her own campaign, she reluctantly endorses Biden.

After that, Biden gets accused of sexual assault, so he vows to choose a woman as his VP.

And now, Sleepy Joe announces Phony Kamala as his running mate.

These two liberals are as far-left as they come. Between both of their terrible records, it’s obvious that this radical duo is PERFECT for each other but WRONG for America.

They are WEAK on crime and want to see our cities burn, unlike President Trump and Vice President Pence who are working tirelessly to restore LAW AND ORDER.

It’s going to be up to Patriots like YOU to save our Nation from that dark fate, (my name). Election Day is right around the corner, and now that we know what we’re up against, I’m going to do something HUGE:...
Oh, I see they finally learned how to spell Joe's last name correctly. Wow! It's no longer Bidan. Well at least they finally got something right. I guess because Oompa Loompa finally learned how to spell it that they all know how to spell it now.

And regarding Oompa Loompa undermining the USPS because he didn't want people to receive ballots; I finally received something I needed and had ordered from Walter Drake exactly nearly two months ago.

I've always ordered some of the incontinence products I need from Walter Drake because I would receive them within 2 to 4 business days.

Today, I finally received my incontinence products after ordering them nearly 2 months ago on a Tuesday. I kept up with the tracking number that Walter Drake sent me through email. The products I order are always delivered to UPS first. UPS receives my order in the Shreveport location, and then delivers it to USPS by the next evening.

I checked the tracking number about 4 days after I had ordered from Walter Drake. It showed that my order would be delivered to me by USPS in the next two days. UPS also provided the tracking number from USPS where I could also track it there.

I had checked for nearly two months at USPS with the tracking number. It showed that USPS was still waiting for UPS to deliver it to them. I've called my local post office at least three times a week, and the lady I talked to kept saying they were still waiting for UPS to deliver my order to them.

I checked once more early this morning around 8:30 a.m. and saw the same thing as usual that they were still waiting for UPS to deliver my order.

Well low and behold! It was a miracle! I found what I ordered in my mailbox today! I almost fainted!

I was watching MSNBC news earlier and they were discussing Trump undermining the USPS. They mentioned that other items were being delayed including prescriptions and meds that people needed ASAP. Well, I needed my incontinence products ASAP, too. There are certain items I need that aren't even found at my local Walmart. That's why I order what I need online because Walter Drake carries what I need.

So what happens when someone orders diabetic meds and supplies and they don't receive them until 2 months later. That goes for any meds that a person needs in order to live.

What do I think? Tampering with the US mail is a felony and Oompa Loompa should face charges and be held responsible for what he has done. Period.

Entire post

I really have no idea what your point was here. I was saying that the U.S. is a long way from socialism. And that’s true, no matter our relative GDP.

At this point, with Trump actively trying to steal this election by starving the post office and the states of needed funds to administer the election, we are a hell of a lot closer to fascism than we’ve ever been to socialism.

By the way, they were just discussing it again on MSNBC. They were talking to a veteran in Louisiana that needed his meds, and still hasn't received them. It was a life saving med that he needed. He is infuriated and upset, and I can't blame him!! He's getting the run around like I experienced. Trump is going to be the cause of someone that is disabled and elderly dying because they didn't receive their meds! :angryfire

MSNBC is having commercials at the moment. They will be having a discussion about Veterans not receiving their meds from the USPS shortly. If you have DirecTV, the channel is 356. I'm definitely watching.

The US is meant to be a first world country. I don't think you can compare it to India which is more of a developing country.

It has always surprised me when I have visited the US that there is a massive homeless problem and that there is no universal healthcare. And that people working in restaurants have to survive on tips because they don't get a living wage. Yep there is income inequality. However being a first world country and a country that claims to be the most influential in the world, I would have thought it could do a better job of making sure people earn a decent living and that everyone is looked after.

Yes he is that dumb. He'll just blame the bootlicker (I'm being nice) for the ZZZZZZZ effort. I think he is that unhinged that the wheels will start falling apart in the next weeks.

He is already responsible for quite a few at the moment. What would he care about a few more? As long as it doesn't interfere with him being re-elected.

Well, I guess all we can do is hope and pray that it does interfere with him being re-elected.

"We're not going to let Joe Biden and Kamala Harris cut America's meat."

So many issues there, starting with whether Pence and his speechwriter understood the connotations of what he was saying.

He's started to do more than starve the postal service. :( https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/politics/postal-service-sorting-machines/index.html

Documents obtained by CNN indicate 671 machines used to organize letters or other pieces of mail are slated for "reduction" in dozens of cities this year. The agency started removing machines in June, according to postal workers.

While the reductions come amid decreased mail volume this year and are described by some postal officials as making the service more cost-effective, the effort overlaps with other actions implemented by the Postal Service that workers have blamed for delivery delays. The new procedures were described in a July memo and include staff hours being cut.

What a tool ;)

And after being the President of the Senate for over 3 1/2 years, he cannot pronounce Kamala's name correctly.
Given that he should definitely know better, but I honestly had no idea until I watched the Lincoln project video. So it's pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable so it sounds like Pamela when you say it.

I've only ever read the name and put the emphasis on the second syllable like he did there :shuffle:

Its fine when people don't know and have to learn, but its a safe bet Trumpians will purposely mispronounce her name.

I was thinking last night about hey maybe they could have voting in sports stadiums because there'd be plenty of room for a lot of people, but then I thought well I suppose that's kind of nutty. Then I read this today in the Guardian:

Also on the intersection of sport and politics – the Los Angeles Dodgers are announcing today that Dodger Stadium will serve as a vote center for the presidential election in November.

The first Major League Baseball team to make their venue available for voting, any registered voter in Los Angeles County can visit the stadium over a five-day period during the election. Parking, they say, will be free.

Lexington, KY used Kroger Field/Commonwealth Stadium during our June primary. It wouldn't surprise me if it's used again in November.
