Biden/Harris the new Democratic Slate for POTUS

I read that Axios article and it ends with this:

The other side: The Trump campaign called Harris Biden's "political living will" and accused the new Democratic ticket of "surrendering control of our nation to the radical mob with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs, open our borders, and appease socialist dictators."

I don't know. It seems so ... generic. It's more "Dems are bad" with no real details. Plus we know that the Dems will help create energy jobs, just in renewables more than dying ones like coal. And Trump appeases dictators all the time. So even if you believe that it's just changing which dictators are tongue bathed. 🤷‍♀️

It's like they didn't prepare a statement for each VP candidate that hit at their weak points.

The entire campaign is just lame this time. Maybe they are all as tired of their boss as the rest of the country.

Seriously. Keep America Great when so much of America is unhappy and knowingly unhappy is such a bad slogan and opens the campaign up for all kinds of criticism. He’s lucky he has the incumbent and electoral college advantage (that he barely has).

Make America Great Again was a real insult to most Americans, and yet, there it was.

Yeah, but I sort of got it. Enough people were really unhappy in 2016 and unhappy with Obama and wanted to go back to the good ole days (you know what that means). But now he’s in power and life sucks and he’s trying to gaslight the non-cult members to keep it the same as now. Gross.

I do keep wondering if they really want to win.

But I suspect that it's more than Trump doesn't know how to win as an incumbent. He ran as an outsider last time so he could blame everyone but himself for any problems his supporters saw. He can't do that this time. It's on him.

Also, it's not like their campaign was wildly successful last time. It's just that traditional GOPers couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary or a 3rd party candidate and felt party loyalty to vote for Trump. I don't think he has that this time either.

I’m not thrilled with the pick, but it’s done, and that’s what I asked for. There’s no such thing as a perfect candidate. Whoever Biden picked, we’d have to deal with her warts and all. But, to repeat what has already been said, I want Trump out and I’ll vote for whoever necessary to make that happen. Personally, I can stomach this better than I could have if Biden won and Harris was put in the AG position.

I’m looking forward to the VP debates. They’ll be epic! :D

So now we march onward and support the ticket with all of the energy we can beg, steal, or borrow. I’ll give you a day to complain, but after that, we’ve got work to do. I have a friend that refuses to vote for either candidate, as much as she hates Trump. The VP pick did not encourage her at all. I’ve got 80+ days to drag her ass to the polls and vote for Biden whether she wants to or not. Wish me luck.

ETA: Now we just need to find someone to convince Kanye to drop out. We don’t need him diverting votes in the states where he might be able to still get on the ballot.

Something that keeps getting pointed out on Twitter is Harris' background as the child of immigrants. I didn't think about that but yeah, that seems kind of important, too, nowadays.
Somehow, Harris seems to be the definition of what America stands for. Bi-racial daughter of immigrants who made this country their home and gave their daughter the ability to become who and what she is today.

If you think the Right is gonna go after Harris, she's also going to face scrutiny from the Left as well. From Reason.com: https://reason.com/2020/08/11/kamala-harris-is-a-cop-who-wants-to-be-vice-president/ , and from HuffPo: https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry...secutor_n_5c995789e4b0f7bfa1b57d2e?ri18n=true

Most of us highly aware of this as we’ve been talking about the criticism of Harris in the last thread. Many of us think Biden is going after centrist voters he can grab in red states that are inching blue. Further, Jason Sudekis, John Mulaney, and Woody Harrelson last played Joe Biden. Harrelson played Biden during the Democratic Primary Debate sketch where Maya Rudolph played Harris.

Sarah Palin offers congratulations and advice:

It’s barely literate and she doesn’t follow basic rules of writing like capitalization.

There is one thing that is kinda bothersome for me with the media and loudest voices. Shaun King, who is extremely well-respected, put out a series of Tweets in late 2018 that specifically said he would 99% never support two candidates- who just so happen to be Biden and Harris. He also pushed this narrative in the first half of 2019. Now, he sent out a series of Tweets today about how Harris has actually been so great since 2011, she has a great progressive record, etc. OK sure- but you knew this the last two years and you used your platform to shove how bad they are into our faces.

This is why I wish Democrats in general would just work together and not go on 💯 attack against those they don’t favor. This isn’t the first example of it, and won’t be the last. But a lot of people see the hypocrisy in being all-in now when he wanted his millions of readers to hate on them for so long.

I have to say it's been fun to watch the over-the-moon reaction to this VP pick from various peoples of colour today. Cory Booker was almost in tears.

And I keep thinking of all those little girls of different ethnic backgrounds that can now feel as though they too can be a vice, or even, president and that's not nothing.

Shaun King is well-respected? I mean generally speaking? Doesn’t he steal funds from black women and other activists? Hasn’t he been caught in tons of lies? I would’ve respected him more if he kept attacking Joe and Kamala like he did to Hillary. He’s what I despise about social media political personalities.

Come on. It was very gracious of her - who cares if it's written carelessly or casually? i dont expect grammar experts on social media.

From yesterday's USA Today: a rousing support of Kamala as the most progressive DA in California from a California public defender.

I just read it. It does put her in a different light but I also don't think that the NYT article Vagabond linked to (in the other thread) is all negative. My takeaway from that was "she did reforms but she could have done more". Does that make her a bad prosecutor/AG? I don't know. To me, it reads like her proposals weren't bold enough and she was too careful. (And I don't know if the pushback and disrespect she got from the police force reflects negatively on her or if that necessarily was because of what she did rather than that she is a woman and one of color).

Experts? Basic writing now requires expertise? It’s like when people defended her for not knowing basic things when she was McCain’s running mate.

All of this, he's such a grifter. But he somehow still has a huge following with the hardcore Bernie crowd. I still see people sharing and referencing him all the time and challenge them to find a better source. It's tiring.
