Toni Morrison was one of America’s best known authors. I have not read many of her books much to my shame. She was 88.

This just hit me really hard and I am not a fiction reader. Toni Morrison has been one of the most important intellectuals of our time. And now of all times we still need her.

I remember reading The Bluest Eye in high school and I've read several books of hers since. A great literary talent. RIP.

Imagine, her fellow authors "lobbied"; so, that she would receive much-deserved recognition
She was thoughtful, interesting, and unique; whatever the vehicle.

Very few authors have been so influential.

Oh no. I didn't realize how old she was. Gosh time passes. I felt a pang when I saw this news. She was an astoundingly brilliant writer and teacher. Also, a fellow Ohioan. Condolences to her family and friends. Her work and her legacy will last forever through generations.

This news cuts deeply -- it's another reminder of an era passing away. There's been so much loss recently, personally and in the world at large. Life is about death and constant change, but the older I become, the more I have begun to feel my own mortality, especially with older relatives and people in the culture at large whom I deeply admired passing on, too soon it seems. Paul Taylor, Mary Oliver, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Sidney Lumet, Gloria Vanderbilt, et al.
