And there is nothing suspicious about this leak and the fact that Trump is looking for a reason to fire Rosenstein and a distraction from Kavanaugh.

What does that mean for Rosenstein? Will he have ro recuse in order to maintain the investigation's integrity?

Skeptical. That's not Rosenstein's style. Agree with @ballettmaus, that this is a planted story designed to give Trump an excuse to feign outrage and call for investigations, blahblahblah. A distraction. The real story is Cohen is talking about EVERYTHING with Mueller's team, at the federal and state levels.
ETA: This could also be in reaction to Trump's walking back his bid to release classified documents. From a tweet by Jackie Schechner:
"I'm not conspiratorial, but it's awfully suspicious Rosenstein hit piece emerges on same day Trump's forced to backtrack on FISA declassification order. Almost like when plan A to discredit DOJ failed, Trump allies moved to plan B, feeding convenient narrative to NYT."

Charlie Pierce in Esquire is his usual acerbic self:
If you were a mendacious, criminal president* with a lot to cover up and the walls closing in from all sides, isn't this exactly the story you'd want out there as an excuse to fire Rod Rosenstein and then appoint someone who would fire Robert Mueller? Isn't this exactly the kind of story that you would want out there in order to superheat the boilers of paranoia that drive your base, especially on the same day that you walked back your promise to feed the base declassified parchments from the Illuminati who run The Deep State?

But why then would all your media advisors be saying not to fire rosenstein and if they did then flip flop and say he shouldn’t- ingraham?!?! Because they knew it was a trap. That firing rosenstein for talking about his constitutional rights would mean immediate impeachment and removal of trump!! So they know this was leaked by McConnell and Ryan because they both believe if trump wasn’t president they’d keep the house and senate instead of losing it because trump is president!! So not only does trump not fire rosenstein he doesn’t say one single word about it!!!

This is such a weird story. And it also seems to have vanished as quickly as it came. Let's see what happens tomorrow though. With two new allegations against Kavanaugh they need something big to distract from that!

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Did he get fired, quit, or something else? Breathless speculation about the professional fate of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein may wait until Thursday. http://bos.gl/2x4L81J

IMO this was leaked by the WH and the NYTimes is playing that line knowingly.
