ANOUNCING YOU VS. KNOWING YOU AS A SKATER.

Ok guys. I do not think this has ever been bought up on a Message Board before, and with me training to possibly being in a Show or competition in the future, I thought I would ask this....My question is...Does anyone know what exactly happens when it comes to getting ready or getting prepared to be announced in a Show or competition?...As far as skate order goes, do they draw numbers, do you get to tell somebody when you would like to skate?..and how do they go about getting your profile (your name, your club, your background, etc. Also do you get to tell them how you would like to be annouced, and talk with people that will be doing it. Or how does that work? I am not only interested. But I would just like to know a little bit about what to expect when my day comes. Thanks.

When you register for a competition, your registration application includes your name and your club affiliation. This information will be available to the announcer. They won't announce anything other than your club and your name.

The chief referee sets the schedule for the competition.
Unless you're the only skater in your event, the chief accountant will do a random draw (by computer) to determine the skate order in the event.
The skate order will be posted online and at the rink. You will be informed in advance what time your warmup is scheduled and what your skate order is within that group.

For a show, it really depends a lot on the kind of show and what your part is in it. If you're in a group number and not doing a solo, you would probably not be announced individually by name.

@gkelly covered it well! I want to add, as someone who announces at competitions, people who are members of US Figure Skating can put the pronunciation of their names into their profile. Then local competitions can print out a list of skaters with the correct pronunciation. Which helps announcers a lot.

Although I kinda laugh sometimes. You’ll see things like Jane Doe putting their pronunciation in, but Siobhan Xochitl did not.
