2026 Grand Prix Assignments

Grids have been updated for Women & Dance.

Sophie Joline von Felten - SkAm TBD host spot - https://isu-d8g8b4b7ece7aphs.a03.az...6245ea946339cb83dd4a6372cd0435aa35f11cad5.pdf

Janse van Rensburg/Steffan - out of GPdF - https://isu-d8g8b4b7ece7aphs.a03.az...1ed858e520933f5531dccb78a8bbad040aa0630d0.pdf

We'll have to wait and see who gets this 2nd GPdF spot - most likely BekHern since ValKaz are already assigned to GPdF.
I think there are 2 dance spots in GPdF so with BekHern getting the LTU spot I think the next ones are SWE Majorov and don't remember the partner's last name (unless the Canadians agree to participate the early event)

We've already talked about this upthread. Current ID Alts are as follows:

1) Lajoie/Baker (NHK) - they have publicly stated they were offered a SCI host spot but didn't think they'd be competition ready by then, so they're unlikely to accept a GPdF assignment, but they could accept the Finlandia spot opened up by ReedAmbru

2) Harris/Chan (SkAm) - they will get the GPdF spot opened up by ReedAmbru

3) Val/Kazimov (GPdF) - if Bakerie decline the Finlandia spot then they will get it, otherwise, they're obviously not getting the GPdF spot vacated by JvRStef & will need to wait & hope that an opening happens somewhere else (quite possibly JvRStef's SkAm spot)

4) Bekker/Hernandez (SkAm) - presuming they're healthy & still skating, they'll get the GPdF spot opened up by JvRStef

5) Reitan/Majorov (Finlandia) - if for some reason BekHern don't accept the GPdF assignment then they would be next in line

6) Tali/Lafornara (nothing) - waiting to see what happens with respect to all of the teams ahead of them on the Alts List

I’d be happy to see BekHer in Angers, but I have a hard time thinking there’s any chance they’ll be ready for a GP in 6 weeks. Even if they’re completely recovered from any injuries and everything else is good with them, best case scenario they’re only now getting back into full training.

No complaints if we get Reitan/Majorov but hoping they’re not doing another young love FD this season. (And thinking about the proximity of GPdF reminds me I need to book my train ticket. )

I would be very surprised if they are competing at all at GP this season, at least I think it´s unlikely they be ready for France. We can´t know for sure if they have been training but given how Phebe usually shares content during off season and there is nothing, and James seems to travel a lot with Ellie as well... At best I think they just been started training on ice again and are probably a couple of months delayed. But my impression is that James might be injured and Phebe can only train alone for now. Phebe seems to be doing a lot of socializing now and keeping herself very busy with other stuff which doesn´t seem to align with a full season preparation, or I need to know where she gets her energy from 😆 I hope it works out fine for them. It´s post Olympic season and a lot of skaters seems to heal from injuries and burn out so another team sitting out GP wouldn´t be a big surprise and a sign skaters are taking care of themselves.

Hopefully we will get updated GP entries soon and it might give us some hints about the status there. If Reitan/Majorov is getting GpdF along with Harris/Chan I guess it means B/H has passed over the spot.

I really wonder what is up with Ben and Jenny. I wonder if they have issue with working out a new training location as i´m not sure if Sinicyn has completely retired or just partly. They seemed to be ready to go for another season but I fear they might end up retire after tall.

I hope they might do flamenco. Just I feeling I have, and they suggested it as an alternate for guessing their RD theme on story a while ago. I don´t think they do flamenco as RD theme. Also they did show a snippet of their ending pose in their FD a while ago and it looked very passionate and serious ending that looked very flamenco like, not like a cute love story 😆

Ehrhard/Pellegris are out of Finlandia.

I realize BoiKoz are first on the Alts List but I have a hard time imagining that any of the Russian teams will be able to obtain visas for any competitions in Finland (their Jr team that was supposed to go to JGP #7 in Poland was shifted to next week's JGP #4 in Turkey because they couldn't get visas for Poland).

I'd guess that it's critical for all of the other teams competing at John Nicks IPC to score as high as possible to be first in line for this GP.

Finland actually joined NATO after the Ukraine invasion. That’s a much harder lift than refusing a visa to Russian skaters.

Yes, I think Finland is the only GP they have close to no chance getting a visa to. Even France should be less complicated

ETA: Russian press claims they got an invite to GPFinalnd

Estonia lost two championships in two different sports because they refused to guarantee visas for Russians. In short this Russia unbanning stuff is the reality check of what sport federation is more corrupted. Tennis from the start fined Wimbledon fancy when they bared Russians. The most corrupted sport federation will be last one that unban Russians completely with flag and anthem. Time to open the poll what federation it will be. ISU, IIHF or FIFA.

Neither Finland nor any other European nation that refuses to issue visas to Russian skaters will be fined by the ISU, especially if those hosting rights were awarded (newsflash, all of them were) before the ISU decided to offer the Russians & Belarusians AIN status.

And the reason is pretty simple if you paid any attention to anything at all during the ISU Congress back in June - the ISU doesn't have feds lining up at their door to host their events. Most, save for Worlds, are usually money-losing propositions for the feds. So, if Finland, Estonia, Poland & Lithuania want to step up and host Worlds, Jr Worlds, Euros, GPs, JGPs & Challengers, the ISU isn't going to tell them "nahhhh" when the governments of those countries reject visas from Russians.

Knowing Finland they will make the worlds a money losing competition :(

The entire Armenian team missed out on this year’s Euros because the British Embassy in Yerevan didn’t issue them their visa in time. Sometimes these things are out of the OC’s control.

If our resident troll checked its facts, it would know that tennis players from Belarus and Russia compete with no flags or anthems either. ;)

So, after the FS at John Nicks PIC, the Pairs GP Alternates List should look like this come Monday:

Boikova/Kozlovskii 203.66
Chikmareva/Ianchenkov 202.55
Mukhortova/Evgenyev 189.94
Shin/Howe 183.81 (likely to get the remaining SkAm host TBD spot)
McBeath/Nagy 180.55 (SkAm)
Wessenberg/Strekalin 160.76 (GPdF)
Williams/Lewer 159.63 (NHK)
Yunoki/Taylor 154.38 (probably will get the SCI host TBD spot since they cleared the GP Total Min Score by nearly 18 points)
Ehrhard/Pellegris 143.14 (WD from Finlandia)

Potential GP openings:
Pavlova/Sviatchenko (GPdF & Finlandia - withdrew from Nebelhorn - could be nothing, could be something)
Herrrera/Khobta (GPdF & Finlandia - train in CO Springs with Meekins & Mishkuteniok & one would have expected them to compete at John Nicks but they didn't & they aren't entered for Nebelhorn)
Holichenko/Darenskyi (SCI & SkAm - haven't been entered for any of the September pairs comps)
Nagaoka/Moriguchi (CoC & NHK - she's recovering from a broken leg suffered in a car accident in early August, which came after another injury for her earlier in the summer - hard to think they'll have adequate time to be trained & prepared for CoC)
Izzo/Maierhofer (CoC & Finlandia - haven't been entered in any of the September pairs comps)

The rest of the pairs teams have later GPs (MiNiki), have already stated they're starting their season at Trialeti (EfiMit, MetBeru), are entered in Nebelhorn (PerMich, KempEliz, ZhaHua, ValBid, FauBelle, HocKun, CalMag, VouBou), or have already competed (LesKovs, AkoRakh, DesThra, LiuBed, PlaFern, WilLew).

the ISU doesn't have feds lining up at their door to host their events.
No problem. Russians proved in 2011 that they can hold a major event on a very short notice. "That is not an expensive event." Putin said then and will say it now. IOC cancelled all restrictions on holding international events in Russia. There is no legal ground not to hold them. And that is how the history will remember: some petty loser refused to issue visas to Russians, instead Russia held the event with issuing visas to everyone.

OMG poor Nagaoka/Moriguchi. I didn't know about the leg.

Sure, a competition in a country with no airports, no credit card, sporadic internet, sporadic electricity and no petrol would be a huge success

Besides, neutral athletes were allowed to compete this season, specifically without representing Russia or Belarus. This time around, they are AIN - not ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) or OAR (Olympic Athlete from Russia). So I certainly wouldn’t expect Russia to host a Grand Prix or an ISU Championship while the war is ongoing.
And I hope Russian aggression does, in fact, come to an end - for the sake of Ukrainians first and foremost, but also for these talented athletes who are nevertheless tied to an authoritarian government and a heavily state-funded, government-backed training system.

If there is anyone from the AINs who would be able to somehow solve the visa issues, it’s actually Boikova/Kozlovskii. Unlike some other athletes, they had shown pretty good organizational skills in that regard, and seem to understand how things are working without relying on the federation.

Also, I personally know a few people who are getting let’s say Italian or French Schengen visas and then go to their actual destination within the Schengen zone. It would be a bit harder for athletes logistically, but it could be done.

If I understand correctly that is somehow a problem now-a-days. Some friends with French visas had a problem coming to Prague for the Worlds (I could had misunderstood though). And, course, there is the famous Rukavitsin coming to Finland with a not finnish visa (am not sure which one did he have) and having to leave within 48 hours

There's a pretty lengthy thread on reddit about the subject of Russian AINs competing at 2027 Worlds with many posts from a Finnish poster who is familiar with the immigration laws & processes.

It sounds like BoiKoz (or any other Russians) COULD be issued a work visa for either Finlandia or Worlds if the LOCAL event organizer (the Finnish fed) were to issue an invitation to specific athletes. But the major hang-up there is the public relations nightmare it would cause for the national sports fed to issue an invitation to Russian athletes.

We don't have any clarity on who has allegedly issued BoiKoz the Finlandia invitation - did it come from the Finnish fed or did it come from the ISU's GP Coordination Group? If it came from the ISU's GP Coordination Group, would that be enough for the Finnish Border/Immigration authorities to grant a work visa? We know that Rakhamo was opposed to lifting the ban from her pre-ISU Congress candidate interview (I think it was with Anything GOEs) and one has to think the rest of the Finnish fed is equally opposed to allowing Russians back in as AINs, so if the invitation MUST come from the local event organizer, then I'd say chances are extremely low that any Russians will be invited to Finlandia.

The other question is how much leeway will the ISU give the Finnish (and other feds) on this issue. For example, could they be willing to let the Finnish fed hold their ground on not issuing invitations to Russian AINs for Finlandia but pressure them to extend invitations for one entry per discipline for Worlds? I could see that sort of middle ground/compromise occurring because, being real, Worlds is the much bigger fish to be fried in the long term.

Armenian team got a visa but late. Because they applied for a visa only one month in advance and didn't pay for fast track.
World Aquatics changed their documentation to make it a mandatory visa support for those federations that wants to host championships. That is how a sport organisation with sport in its heart acts. But ISU is not a sport organisation but an old rentier.
