2026 Grand Prix Assignments

Sure, a competition in a country with no airports, no credit card, sporadic internet, sporadic electricity and no petrol would be a huge success
It must be a generation issue of why people with the internet don't know the art of Google.

idk if this is additional information, but they've appeared on the grid: https://isu-d8g8b4b7ece7aphs.a03.az...c3ae35510788fdea39a80f6acfda15825374f5418.pdf

Two Russian figure skaters have been invited to the Finlandia Trophy, Russian Figure Skating Federation President Aleksandr Kogan told the Tass news agency.

– The Finnish Figure Skating Federation has sent an invitation to Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii , Kogan said, according to Tass .

Boikova and Kozlovskii will compete together in pair skating, and they are said to be replacing the French pair Louise Erhard – Matthijs Pellegris in Helsinki .

Skating Finland CEO Salla Mäkelä confirmed to Iltalehti that when the French pair dropped out, the next ranked Russian pair was invited to the competition. The invitations come from the organizer, but the International Figure Skating Union (ISU) decides on the athlete selection.

According to Mäkelä, the Russians have already responded positively to the invitation. However, entry is at the discretion of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The ISU decided in June that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to return to international competitions next season with neutral status, meaning they will not be allowed to use country codes in events.

The Finlandia Trophy, part of the Grand Prix series, will be held at the Helsinki Ice Hall on November 20–21.

The Finnish Figure Skating Federation confirms: The Russian star pair was invited to the top competition in Helsinki – “There was no other option”

Russian pair skating champions Aleksandra Bojkova and Dmitri Kozlovsky will participate in the Finlandia Trophy in November.
The Finnish Figure Skating Federation has invited Russian pair skaters Aleksandra Bojkova and Dmitri Kozlovsky to the Finlandia Trophy to be held in Helsinki in mid-November.

Jouko Pitkänen, chairman of the Finnish Figure Skating Federation, confirmed the news that had been featured in the Russian media to Yle Urheili on Monday.

Bojkova and Kozlov will compete this season with neutral status (AIN) granted by the International Skating Union (ISU). The ISU decided in June that Russian and Belarusian athletes who have been granted neutral status will be allowed to return to international competitions.

Bojkova and Kozlovski will replace the French pair Louise Erhard and Matthijs Pellegris in the Finlandia Trophy, which is part of the Grand Prix series .

According to Pitkänen, the Russians were invited to Finland because the pair has risen to a position in the world rankings that warrants an invitation. Bojkova and Kozlovskij have won two Challenger Series events in Japan and the United States in the early season.

– In practice, the International Skating Union (ISU) builds lists of athletes that we should invite to the Finlandia Trophy. If the athletes have collected a certain number of ranking points during this season, they have been able to achieve a position in the world rankings, which will place them next in the order of invitations to the GP, Pitkänen says.

“The ISU decides who is involved”

Pitkänen understands that the participation of Russian skaters may stir up emotions in Finland, as Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine continues. He emphasizes that this is a system of the sport's international umbrella organization, which Finnish competition organizers must adhere to.

– The hosting country has no choice but to invite them. Our role is to organize the competition event, but the competition system is fully owned by the ISU. They decide which athletes are included in the competitions.

The Finnish Figure Skating Federation sent an invitation to Boykova and Kozlovsky to the Russian Figure Skating Federation. The Russian pair confirmed on Friday that they will participate in the competition to be held at the Helsinki Ice Hall on November 20-21.

Russian figure skaters were last seen competing in Finland in late 2021. After that, the ISU banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing due to Russia's war of aggression. Pitkänen says that the return of Russians to Finnish competitive ice has been carefully planned within the federation.

– This is clearly something that requires us to cooperate with the authorities. Our task is to guarantee the safety of the athletes, the audience and the entire event.

Aleksandra Bojkova and Dmitri Kozlovsky are the 2021 World Pair Skating Championships and 2020 European Champions. The pair has won the Russian Championship three times. The duo is part of the coaching team of world-renowned figure skater Eteri Tutberidze .

Boikova and Kozlovsky are indeed invited to Finlandia Trophy. It is an another story if they get a visa. As mentioned, they are able to take care of themselves very well.
This was a huge letdown. But it kind of sounded like the president of Skating Finland wasn't happy either. He kept mentioning they had to invite them as per the ISU rules, they had no other choice.

I think the quotes you posted explained it pretty well? The feds have to invite the next skaters on the least and don’t get to choose, so they don’t have an option but to invite B\K.

Even better, pretend it’s Color Day in grade school and attend wearing bright blue and yellow. They can make a no flags rule but can’t challenge wardrobe decisions.
I got that idea too. I have still very ukrainian coloured clothes I got for work in 2022. It was unfortunately mostly WFH and then I retired. Have to see how ice rink compatible they are. It is also possible I come just after the pairs. I definitely do not watch any of those skaters.

Alyssa Robinson/Jacob Portz, David Bondar, Miyu Yunoki/Tristan Taylor & Sara-Maude Dupuis get the SCI TBDs:

Hmmm I was hoping someone new on the women's side to get experience. The dance spot is interesting as Fabbri/Gaidajenko won the Quebec summer championship and they have a challenger assignment already and Robinson/Portz do not. The mens and pairs picks are not a surprise.

Who is the second American team that made it to the junior Grand Prix ice dance finals last year…. Robertson and… Are they competing this season?

This sounds close to a planned withdrawal from her GPs? (Skate America & NHK Trophy)
"When I heard that they wanted me, it was obviously a yes," Glenn said. "What am I going to do, say no and pass up on an opportunity of lifetime? It's something different, something new. I wanted to try this and be a part of it. I wish it didn't interfere with the competitions and Grand Prixs, but I've done Grand Prixs before and I'm never going to get the chance to do something like this again." [...]
Glenn will continue to train on the ice during "Dancing with the Stars" with the intention of competing in the second half of the season.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Robinson/Portz's first GP. (Senior GP, that is.)
One of their first senior internationals at that -- their only other senior events outside of Lake Placid have been Autumn Classic in 2023 and Bavarian Open last season, and they had one Junior Grand Prix before that. I'm impressed to see Skate Canada finally use one of these dance spots for a deserved opportunity again.

R/P have a higher summer score than F/G.
Just checked - that was from Skate Ontario's Sectional Series comp. in mid-August:
1 AB Alyssa ROBINSON / Jacob PORTZ Calalta FSC & Calalta FSC · AB/NT/NU 69.06 (2) 107.20 (1) 176.26 (1)

The week before, both teams competed in Quebec Summer Champs (R/P won the FD):
1 QC Alicia FABBRI / Marko GAIDAJENKO Patinage Terrebonne / Regroupement Élite de patinage artistique de Montréal · Lanaudière 73.19 (2) 96.34 (3) 169.53 (1)
2 ON Layla VEILLON / Alexander BRANDYS Ilderton SC & Ilderton SC · ON 66.59 (3) 101.13 (2) 167.72 (2)
3 AB Alyssa ROBINSON / Jacob PORTZ Calalta FSC & Calalta FSC · AB/NT/NU 65.98 (4) 101.20 (1) 167.18 (3)

Robertson/Rohner split earlier this summer. :( Jasmine is on IPS: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...of-the-skate-guard.113906/page-2#post-6942992

ANL, this is the SENIOR Grand Prix news thread. ;)

I’ve had too many sangrias here in Valencia Spain, what can I say?

Wait a second they split? Why? They were so much promise…

Where was the fax……

Is there an appropriate thread where this was being discussed and I will head on over there.

What a bummer, oh my gosh

OK, I scrolled back up I saw the thread who directed me to

Assignment Grids were updated today
Men, Women, Ice Dance, Pairs

The remaining Skate Canada host picks are what were posted above - David Bondar men, Sara-Maude Dupuis women, Robinson/Portz dance, Yunoki/Taylor pairs

Finlandia Trophy host picks - Matias Lindfors men, Janna Jyrkinen women

As expected, Shin/Howe were named for the last Skate America pairs host pick

NHK Trophy host picks are still marked as TBD for the 1 men slot, 1 women slot, and 2 ice dance slots (even though there are news reports of who they picked)

2 GP France ice dance slots are still open from withdrawals of Reed/Ambrulevicius and Janse van Rensburg/Steffan

Bekker/Hernandez are still listed for Skate America on the ISU grid (Sept. 15) but I guess we should expect them to be crossed out soon? :( Chan/Harris' names likely will appear in GPdF soon? ETA: Along with Reitan/Majorov's?

I would expect that when the ice dance grid is updated that we'll see Harris/Chan and Bekker/Hernandez assigned to GPdF.
