I've just come back from Xi'an and had a great time! Threw Summer a heart and Lara a star.

The dance spin and the combination lifts of Fefelova & Valov are magnificent. Yes these are actually not new elements for them but for viewers never follow Russian domestic competitions they look quite innovative.

Zoe & Daniel also have great speed and ice coverage. Loooove their ChAj, though I was never a ChAj fan.

Summer & Nicholas, tbh at NextGen I was not quite convinced by this program especially with Piper & Paul´s iconic Evita setting the bar high. But here I feel their emotions and efforts. Congrats on winning the bronze!

Jane & Mark. Pasquale Camerlengo was reviewing and demonstrating all the level issues with them at the hotel.

Lara and Hector. Not their best performance at FD but I love their RD quite a lot. Neil Brown said they may bring back their unique ChHy in their future programs but not this season.

It's always heart-warming to watch this younger generation grow.

Could someone recommend which JGPs are likely to have the best match-ups that will lead into the Final and Worlds? I'm really looking forward to the Men's event in Riga this week with many of my favorites - Sena Takahashi, Habin Choi, Jaekeun Lee, Caleb Farrington, Ean Weiler, Nikita Sheiko, Daniil Valanov, William Chan (just to name some of them - I'm sure I'll discover new skaters as well).

Since you don't have a lot of time, I suggest just watching the last warm-up group of the archived live stream from the free skate. Watch the 6 best from each competition battle it out for medals. And if any of them interest you further, look up their short program performance. Sometimes you'll miss a good skater who failed to make the final group of the free skate due to a lackluster short program. But that's just the cost of watching it abbreviated like this (I assume you don't want to see the scores first -- if you want to see the scores before you watch then you can just pick and choose who to pay attention to).

ISU's decision. Just Xi'an (last week) and Bangkok (next week). Also, JGP Finals in December. Spots are earned on previous seasons' results -- and they have no results from last season so they're starting at the bottom of the allotment race. I can't say for certain, but it's likely they'll improve their allotments for next season. That is, if they're treated like a normal country and there's not some special rules to keep them in a limited role until fully reinstated as named countries (perhaps at the end of hostilities).

JGP spots are earned during the previous season’s worlds. Isn’t AIN2 getting the same amount of spots as any other country that wasn’t at junior worlds? It does look like the ISU placed AIN2 athletes at events where they wouldn’t have visa troubles.

The last two JGPs will be fairly packed as countries with deep fields like the US and Japan will have sorted out which of their skaters are in JGPF contention and star juniors in shallow fields will likely have gotten ideal (later) picks that give them more time to prepare for competition.

My research is not exhaustive but it appears that in JGP when AIN skaters are included there are no Ukrainian athletes present and vice versa. I had wondered about how Ukrainians could be asked to share ice with AIN.

Not correct as UKR and AIN2 will be together next week. AIN2 (RUS) has the bare minimum in spots and UKR has a lot of dance spots, so it's kind of unavoidable.

Just checked and there are no UKR ice dance teams in Bangkok next week. But with all the country switching in recent years, it's inevitable that Russian-born skaters and Ukrainian-born skaters are going to be competing at some of the same JGPs. Hopefully good sportsmanship will be on display.

ETA: 1 UKR man and 1 AIN2 pair are scheduled to compete in Ankara.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind! I do follow Patrick Blackwell and noticed he didn't make it to the final warm up group in China. Hope he still has a chance to make it to the final.
