2025–26 Canadian Pairs: News and Updates

I think if Deanna wants to continue, sure do it. If you love it, have at it.

But I think it would be important to be realistic as well. For herself and for any potential partner.

For two seasons now she has seemed exasperated at skating poorly and the lack of major medals. And I think it would also be fair to say that for the past season, everything looked like it was hanging on by a thread and on the edge of completely slipping away.

Was that just the stress of the Olympic season and poor management of their training? Maybe. Or maybe it wasn’t.

I think if the passion for training and competition is still strong, then continuing could be a good path. But if frustration at the outcome is going to overshadow the joy and purpose of the training, then it would be something to really think hard about before continuing.

Good points. The definition of a great career is knowing when to retire. I think the writing was on the wall when Deanna and Max were beaten for gold at the 2026 Canadian Championships. It was all looking rather laboured for them at that event.

Too bad there isn't a pro circuit (or more show opportunities for veteran / retired eligible skaters these days.)

Regarding Deanna, I think it's important to remember that she is in a rather unique situation compared to most athletes. She has already retired. She knows what her career as a personal trainer/retired athlete was like. I gather she would prefer to do this while she can. Of course, if you can't find a partner at your own level, that can change an athlete's decision making process. But she does know what's out there as a non-competitor.

Ben Mimar has posted an Instagram stories video of himself doing a lift with Eliana Secunda. Possibly meaningful?
