2025–26 Canadian Ice Dance: News and Updates

Skate Canada is going to throw everything at Gilles and Poirier to stay for one more year. There’s no one left.
Lauriault/le Gac are still around.

It's not as if LajLag were smoking their way up the standings and looking to be a legitimate podium threat next season. I know, I know, full backing of the fed and all that but I think there was too much of a logjam of teams ahead of them that will stay ahead of them next season for them to be contending for the podium in Tampere next year.

Sigh. This seems like it shouldn’t be happening.

On the one hand I get them just being fed up beyond belief in their stagnation. But on the other hand, either starting over with a new partner isn’t likely to get them any instant success more than they’ve had with each other.

But if they dislike each other as much as is often rumoured, then I suppose it’s for the best. It’s not worth it to be miserable for four more years to maybe try to get back to like 5th in the world.

I am so sad for all of us who loved watching them and for Marjorie as it seems she wants to continue.
Zak has appeared rightfully frustrated at their results over the years. He is talented at so many things. I would love for him to continue to fulfill his passions in the way he sees fit, whether that be on the ice or in music. Either way, I am a big fan of them both individually and together!

I am interested to see how high Veillon and Brandys will climb in their first senior season. At this rate, I see them right near the top at nationals. Given how long they have been together and their recent junior experience with patterns in the rhythm dance, I expect them to do quite well with the Golden Waltz.

Oh, I'm scattered by this news. I thought IAM really fumbled LaLa with recycling White Crow for an Olympic year, but I was hoping things weren't this dire. Their Roses FD was so special, and I'm grateful I got to see them skate it live at Montréal Worlds. :fragile:

It’s important to truly love what you do. When you’re passionate, genuine, and aligned with your values, anything is possible.
I might get some heat for this, but based on that quote, they did not split amicably at all. Their relationship must have been dire; they were literally next in line for the Canadian Championship title after Piper and Paul, yet they chose to split instead is very telling

How is this the same IAM that did VM Moulin Rouge but was not able to come up the same level of packeting for most of Lala

Feels like it is Marjorie’s decision.

She doesn’t want to continue with him anymore.

Yes, and her thank you to Zach was a tepid one line too (“Thank you, Zach, for the journey we shared together.”)

And it sounded worse in French (or that could be me projecting). 😉

V&M wanted that program and had a clear vision of who they wanted to be on the ice which seems to be key to success at IAM. I suspect that the LaLas weren't on the same page in terms of the kinds of music and programs they wanted to work with.

It sounded worse in French to me too.

I also agree that Marjorie’s comments are quite pointed. If you want to, it can read clearly as: it was no longer possible to achieve great things together because she doesn’t like working with him and they don’t share the same values.

And perhaps I’m reading into it too much, but it also feels like some of the comments that her fellow skaters are leaving on her post are edging into pointed territory.

If we're going to pull someone out of ice dance retirement, how about Bruce Waddell? Could he be enticed to give up that pointless singles quest in order to skate with someone as talented as Marjorie?
Yes please!! Stephen Gogolev posted a picture in his stories today with Bruce, Matt Markell and Ilya Kovler, they need to convince Bruce Dance is where he’s needed and can succeed!!

Well, I was debating if it was time for one of my regular breaks from ice dance, so I'll take the LaLa split as the universe giving me a very big thumbs up. :(

Just wondering though, if this might be a Crone/Poirier situation - Marjorie is done with being the afterthought at IAM and wants to train elsewhere, but Zach isn't willing to leave?

With so many teams (and Jean-Luc!) being based in Montreal, partner switching talks and arrangements could’ve started a while ago on the down low.

We shall see.
