Depends on when the WAG starts - the Opening Ceremonies lasts several hours and that's on top of queueing up and riding busses from the OV to the staging area for the Seine boat parade. If the WAG starts early the next day then it would not surprise me if they do skip the OC - many athletes make that choice every Olympics, Winter & Summer.

ETA - looking at the schedule - OC is July 26th, WAG qualifying is July 28th, so it's possible that some or all of the WAG team will attend the OC. But it's not a requirement and they need to do what they feel is best for their team and individual medal prospects.

I’m thinking about the $$$ perspective…and getting eyeballs on the TV screen. It’s so commercial.

NBC will have a camera on Biles, at the Olympic Village, watching the ceremony, at the very least. And Jordan Chiles, next to her, whooping it as if she were in the parade…”WHAA! WHAA! WHAA!”

Um ... what??? Idk why you've decided to go there. Weird flex.

Plus the opening ceremony will have plenty of athletes to focus on. Swimmers and gymnasts generally don't do opening ceremonies bc their competitions start the next day.

Copied from Gymnastic thread:

Peacock has the tiles up for both women’s and men’s qualification rounds, team finals and all-around competitions. As with Olympic trial coverage, they also have each apparatus feeds as well as a “world” feed for team finals.

US men are in Q round 1 with Germany, Great Britain and Canada
US women are in Q round 2 with China and Italy

I have liked some of the opening ceremony spectacles, but watching the parade of athletes is mostly boring.

So I will be overseas on vacation the second week of the Olympics. Anyone know how long peacock replays stay on the website?

I’m so excited for my friend, she was on the night flight to Paris few hours ago, she is there as a swim coach! She is excited for the opening ceremony and staying in the village. I will be excited to live vicariously through her.

This looks interesting!

‘La Grande Seine’, a behind-the-scenes docuseries on the Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, will premiere worldwide from 21 July.

The documentary will be available on Olympics.com on 21 July around the world. It will be available to watch on NBC Universal’s Peacock in the United States, France Televisions in France, Warner Bros. Discovery in the rest of Europe, CMG in the People’s Republic of China, NHK in Japan, Globo in Brazil, CBC and Radio-Canada in Canada.

Time to fire up Peacock!

I took a vacation during the Olympic Games. In my circumstances, I still won’t be able to spend it the way I wanted. But I will be able to watch the Olympic Games without being distracted by work. Unless, of course, the situation with electricity gets worse.

Sports Illustrated has published their medal predictions and some for athletics at least are interesting…. :shuffle:

It's so cute that you take Sports Illustrated seriously enough to share their medal predictions with us. If only they had knowledgeable reporters or any cultural relevance still these days.

Well, I shared them to say their predictions in athletics were strange. So you actually agree with me despite yourself. :shuffle:
I suppose. I mean, I saw that tweet from Heroux before I saw your post and sort of rolled my eyes, scrolled on past and didn't even click because I don't think we should be giving such shoddy sports "journalism" any additional attention. It's sad that what was once a vaunted, highly regarded news organization has fallen to such a low level.
