They really did. His TES was 117+ when it dropped off the screen at the end of the program and wound up being just over 100 when the scores came up.

All this talk of Ilia pushing himself ... trying to quad all the jumps, etc. I can only hope and pray that he doesn't seriously injure himself at some point. The human body can only take so much. He IS only human, right???

Good fight from Ilia, he was off but pushed through.

Costume another no. He should get Madi C to design them. Boot covers as usual, but not covering the heel today.

At this point, Malinin's competiton is himself. If he's clean, there are no other skaters who can come close to his scores. If he's not clean, he still wins. But, he's pushing the boundaries and I won't be surprised if we see a quint in competition before he retires. To me that's what sport is all about.

I like the costume, if you have that kind of program and you're young and want to be different, go for it I say.
This was all a bit messy but impressive nonetheless. He will like Shaidorov never be a Yuma but I like his daring and competitive spirit.
Just exciting to watch.

It’s clear his goal is all jumps / 7 quad LP and I suppose this is a stepping stone to building the stamina towards that. A little dubious he’ll truly do it all clean by Boston, but I wouldn’t bet against Ilia either.
