Usacheva would not get junior world title because she would have to beat Valieva. Valieva is still senior ineligible so she would go to junior worlds.

Given the circumstances, I think the Russian fed said they were gonna hold more competitions later, to help decide.

What an incredible competition! This is why I watch the Russian nationals. Brilliant skating by the top three and very good by many others. Anna Shcherbakova was incredible. Her coaches were crying at the end. Valieva was great. Yagudin was in tears. I was so happy for Trusova! She did only two quads (both lutzes) but she skated a clean and more complete than ever LP. She will need two more quads if she wants to win and I am not sure even that will be enough.

I was blown away by Anna. I had worried about her stamina, coming off the illness, but she is tough as nails. Absolutely brilliant performance.

I was really proud of Liza for delivering the LP. I thought they punished her too much for the step out of her first 3A. She doubled the 3R but the fact that she gave it her all makes me respect her a lot. Her LP had much better choreography than in the past and she has developed a lot on the artistic side. In Russia that won’t be enough to go to the Olympics or worlds and that is a pity.

I did not like it that they invited the whole Eteri team, including Usacheva (4th place) for the interview. Anna and Kamila deserved it of course. They should have invited Trusova who also skated great and won the bronze. It would have been more appropriate to interview all three medallists than to invite only Eteri’s skaters. I a, not even a Eteri hater nut it really bothered me.

Wow what a night. Ahh so tough for Sasha to skate so well and not win. Kamila has finally won me over. Those are the best Ladies quads out there. Love the program. Anna just isn't my bag, but wow at that effort and getting that reaction from Eteri. It must have been hell preparing for this event.

While you’re bothered by just about everything this weekend, including your computer/internet connection that have a conspiracy against you, I think this situation was more-so because they were all standing right there, and the interviewer didn’t want to leave Usacheva out. So.. have a drink.

I'd feel sorry for Liza and her Olympic dream, but I don't think she feels sorry for herself, but even if she'd been 100% here, it wouldn't matter. She just doesn't have the technical arsenal the younger skaters have. It will be interesting to see what she decides to do going forth career wise. She's popular in Russia and can skate in shows as long as she wants.

The thing is that if she gets the 4T consistent enough, can tack on a 3T, does an additional 4T, and her two 3A, she's still in the picture. She's shown some small improvements in her all-around quality this year, and I don't think she's the type that will just be satisfied with non-competitive TES.

Of course, her spins and footwork being slowish and not hitting levels or GOE is another thing, but the PCS isn't going to have her that far behind if she is able to throw all of that TES in jump-wise.

She's been getting all L3s and L4s in her spins the last couple of competitions. She's definitely putting the work in!

After Sasha skated I was sure that she had won. That was phenomenal.

And then she ended up in third. Two incredible peformances to follow. And I ended up in tears. That really was something. :cheer2:

We've been saying IF for the past three years. Tuk has the worst luck and bad timing I've ever seen which has to make it all the more frustrating for her. When she's on a roll, she gets hit with illness that knocks her out of contention, but she shakes it off and comes back for more. I would never suggest she should quit competing. She should do exactly what she wants to do, but she is branching out into other income producing avenues including her own clothing line. Mishin says she'll compete as long as she wants to, so, if they're pleased, good for her. I do wonder though if Mishin will indeed focus his attention on the skater who does have an excellent chance at not only going to the Olympics, but a long shot at being on the podium. But, Russian ladies are no ladies. They are warrior women.

Wait I just realized that since 3 skaters are not age eligible, Nugu is in the top 3 of the seniors, which is really a tremendous accomplishment for her, and if there were a European championship she'd have a shot at going(probably in a battle against Tuk and Kost). This has been such a great nationals for her.

But she does have the technical arsenal. She has exactly the same jumps as Valieva - triple axel and quad toe. The difference is that she is not risking the quad (while Valieva did risk the 3A). She is also not judges favourite, so while Valieva was forgiven the mistake in the SP, but Liza would not be forgiven any mistakes. That’s probably the reason why she is not risking the quad. But she has been ill recently, so the timing of this competition did not help her; that may be the reason for her mistakes on the 3A.

Anna is an incredible fighter - after yesterday I wasn't even sure if she could make it through the FS. That said, I hope skating while sick won't be normalized just because she had a great skate today.

This is the best skate Kamila has had with this program, for the first time I found it quite watchable.

I enjoyed Sasha's program the most among top 3 and I think reducing the number of quads is a right move for her.

Reducing the number of quads on this occasion might have been good for her because after the last competition she did need some competition where she skates clean. But if she wants to beat Scherbakova and Valieva, she will have to add some more quads. The judges have their favourites and she is not one of them. To win, she must have such TES that they won’t be able to hold their favourites with GOE and PCS. Two more quads should do it, but she will still have to be clean.

I agree. Usually she does the 4t Eu 3t combination is the second half, but after the SP (clean but scored lpower than a flawed Usacheva) and her multiple falls in her last competition it was important for her to deliver two clean programs, and she did. Good strategy. She is capable of skating a 4-5 quads program but she will have to build up to it. This competition showed her progress as a more complete skater than she was in the past.

I agree too. Sasha's quad toes are excellent and if she added two of them with the lutzes along with a 3 axel. She only needs one 3 axels and 3 to 4 quads to win. Her spins have improved. I'm proud of Sasha and she's my favorite for the reason that her competitiveness is inspiring. Plushy needs to get stronger in politics because even I think Trusova was underscored a bit technically. Her SP in particular should have been higher.

Overall, absolutely an incredible ladies competition. The last 3 brought it in spades.

Anna S is amazing. Her competitiveness is borderline legendary. I thought Evgenia was the most competitive female skater I'd seen, but Anna rises to the occasion in big competitions over the last two years like I've never seen. Only her team knows. All of the coaches were emotional which means Anna has exceeded their expectations.

Kamila is way over scored for me even thought her quad toes are spectacular. The GOE in the other jumps were over scored.
