With a sixth place Nationals placement on their resume, the duo was anxious to get started preparing for the new season. They searched for almost a month for a combination of music selections for the 2021-2022 Junior Rhythm Dance – the Blues Pattern and a choice of two Street Dance Rhythms.
“Once we found the Blues music, we couldn’t mix it with the Street Dance music, which we had, and the other way around,” Markelov said. “We finally have two songs, which we think fit pretty well: “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé and “DJ Turn It Up” by Yellow Claw.
The Free Dance is a combination of “My Immortal” by Evanescence and “In the End” by Linkin Park (Tommee Profit version).

A lot of the Junior RDs that I've seen have abrupt edits and odd mixes. I get that blues and hip-hop are very different rhythms but I hope the Senior programs are put together better.

Well, that was a better music edit from the Peals, and they're certainly a step above the first two teams (not surprising), but I'm still very un-sold about this season's RD rhythm and music options.

Oh, now that was probably the best edit so far! I liked that from Ling & Wein.

Teal costumes with highlighter stripes all over them and a hot pink underskirt for Carhart and fluorescent yellow shoulder pads for Horovyi. Sounds disco-y. I guess that's a direction in which to go with the RD this year.

I was at the rink tonight & enjoyed watching the junior RDs live. I thought the top two teams (Flores/Tsarevski and Ling/Wein) skated very well.

I must say, the blues pattern for juniors seems a bit challenging (to my untutored eye anyway). The tempo is rather slow, giving not much opportunity to gain speed. The skaters really have to hold those edges and work them, it seems. With the team that placed last, the man had a complete loss of edge at one point right in front of me. His skate kind of chittered from side to side.

The rink was pretty warm tonight. I was fine with just a light sweater. There is no food within walking distance of the arena. Haven’t seen a concession stand yet but maybe there is one somewhere. I’ll look tomorrow.
