Being trapped in Melbourne, I'm looking forward to this weekend's competition online.

If James Min's training videos are any indication, he looks really serious about putting in a bid to make next year's Olympic team.

He already has the OG TES minimums as well.

I don't know if the new Senior pair skated their SP (no livestream or results posted online); the livestream has kicked in fpr the second event scheduled for Saturday - Basic Novice Ladies Free Skating.

Glitches with the livestream completely missed the senior pair team. If the detailed results PDF was any indication, they had a bit of a rough outing, too.

Highlight of the day came with the lucky last performer. Douglas Gerber from NZL skated an excellent senior men's short, although he received a deduction for going over time.

Here's Douglas Gerber's SP (60.62) to Chopin's Nocturne in C-sharp minor, choreographed by Isabella Bardua (according to his Instagram story): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJm5fwFq-O4&t=1550s
3A is a new jump for him this year (he started landing the jump in New Zealand before moving to Australia to train a few months ago).

James Min's SP music is "Fire on Fire" by Sam Smith (he skated before Gerber).

After watching yesterday's event, it must be so frustrating for James Min and his team. Practice posts on Instagram and Facebook indicate he can clearly do the difficult jump elements. He just looks so afraid while competing.

The NZL dance team was really close to the world min and should get the FCC one easily so we should see them there this year.

Gerber is still junior eligible, I'd expect he focus on getting junior world mins since they are easier and he's never been?

Top four junior ladies scored better than the senior ladies. It's frustrating to watch programmes I've seen skated perfectly fine in training not go so well in competition.

Do we know why Brendan Kerry didn't skate? I assume still injured? He was at the rink this morning but obviously not skating.

ETA: Yikes! Nasty fall from William Badaoui in the short dance. His head hit the ice but he got up again and finished the programme. Hopefully they get that checked out.

With the double (or triple axel) and at least two different triple jumps required in the senior ladies' short program, the technical level is a lot higher than the junior ladies' division. Factoring in the greater room for competition nerves, errors, falls and omissions, is highlighted by the lower scores, too.

Looks like there was a bit of a bungle filming the senior men's free. No footage of Douglas Gerber was captured, and James Min appears to have withdrawn from the event.

Just watched the Adult Skaters. Some very good performances, and a few hairy scary ones as well. Well done to everyone for getting out there and having a go, though.

The live stream went down in the middle of the senior ladies, so something was amiss.
A recording of the Senior Ladies FS and Douglas Gerber's FS (starts at 22-minute mark) has been uploaded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxU6kvcm8Gg

Gerber confirmed via his Instagram story that his FS music is "Backstage Romance" from Moulin Rouge! The Musical, choreographed by Isabella Bardua. He landed his opening 3A again and scored 92.70, 153.32 total.

A bit more mileage and Gerber's free skate has excellent potential. He is the real deal, knows how to compete, and is a great asset to NZL skating.
