It was pretty obvious, once she wasn’t Japan’s flagbearer and wasn’t even at the parade.
Great choice.

Now imagine the pressure on this girl to win a medal.
Cathy Freeman could speak a thing or two to her.

I am now feeling the need to look up the design of every Olympic emoji ever used.
Yeah, I wasn’t kidding:

https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/

Gold: Grenoble, 1968 (voidiest for sure! It was the ‘60s): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/grenoble-1968/
Silver: Tokyo, 1964 (not only the original, still one of the best): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/tokyo-1964/
Bronze: Albertville, 1992 (brush-style pictogram coming into play): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/albertville-1992/

Special mention:

Rome, 1960 (these were apparently not used, but are amazing): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/rome-1960/
Lillehammer, 1994 (I’ve always been partial to these): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/lillehammer-1994/
Athens, 2004 (best history shout-out): https://www.theolympicdesign.com/olympic-design/pictograms/athens-2004/

They're hardly the only ones that didn't give a damn about social distancing. I saw plenty of Australians bunched up too.
Honestly, even if the athletes are not distancing as some might want them too - it's outdoors, they're masked, most of them are vaccinated, and they're tested constantly. An Olympic Opening ceremony is exciting (speeches notwithstanding), and people may have gotten a bit carried away. It's human.

I just don't get it. The Opening Ceremonies lose millions of dollars always. I get that this is the Olympics. But really is this bow the world wants to use its resources?

It's called culture. There are lot of dancers, musicians, and choreographers involved who also deserve some recognition.

P.S. I was also very happy that Osaka was the one who lit the Olympic torch. This should increase her self-esteem. She is way too shy.

The pictogram section was the best part of the opening ceremony! Loved it so much!

Apparently Kevin Durant was IG live during the ceremonies and spontaneously interviewed several fellow Team USA members. Good stuff!

Right here. He runs into a Belgium basketball player who wants a selfie.

I guess I'll be in the minority here but I really enjoyed the Opening Ceremony this morning. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to come up with something appropriate for the times we're living in now and I thought Japan did a wonderful job. I loved the story about where the wood for the Olympic Rings came from, those drones were INCREDIBLE, the pictogram guys were outstanding, and I enjoyed that the commentary wasn't overbearing for the entire thing (they just let the ceremony unfold at times without comment which was nice). I enjoyed the Imagine segment too but I also don't pay much attention to that many musicians lives or stories so I just enjoyed the music and wasn't really thinking about other stuff at the time. Can't wait for these next two weeks! :cheer:
