Japan is having a dream Olympics
I think China is keeping No.1 in rankings until the last day
Yeah, but the US has 4 gold medal matches tomorrow (Women's Basketball, 2 Boxing, and Women's Volleyball) while China has just 1 left (Boxing). Yes, they both have competitors left in cycling but, realistically, I can't see either country getting a gold at the velodrome.

Watching the award ceremony for men’s basketball: Rudy is solemn but Team France appears happy. Some Aussies are weeping from happiness. This has been a long time coming for them. The Americans: These men are all multimillionaires. They could be relaxing on a yacht somewhere. But I am watching a bunch of delighted guys giggling like boys who grew solemn during the anthem. For those that think the Olympics have lost their power—-look at them.

I checked with Wikipedia to see how often the Summer Olympics have not been held in the Northern Hemisphere summer and the answer was a few times (most recently 1988, when it was held Sept. 17-Oct. 2).

In 1908 it was held from April 27 to Oct. 31, which must have been very difficult for NBC to schedule around.

My mistake. Sorry. RTBF moved to athletics right after Belgium secured bronze and it was 1-1-3 in the table. There must have been a jump-off. I have corrected my original post.

Another fourth place finish for les Tornados (Belgian 4x400 men relay team). For the first time in two weeks I heard bitterness in the voice of Belgian journalists.
The jump off was wonderful! Both teams were clean and Sweden won on time. Sweden was incredible this entire week in show jumping (even though everyone started from 0 today). Congrats to all 3 teams!

I made myself watch the riding phase of modern pentathlon. I have have so many thoughts. Mostly those horses are saints and the men’s competition was less scary than the women’s… so much rider error…

I had to go take my dogs to boarding and I'm missing the men's volleyball final. It's such a stressful match!

China heads the medals table going into the last day of competition, but with quite a number of gold medals still to be decided it is possible for the US to overhaul them. Japan is nailed in for third and its between GB and ROC for FORTH.

I have so many questions about water polo, but my main one is who or what puts the ball in the middle of the pool at the start of each game?

Sydney 2000 was September 15-October 1. After Sydney, NBC said they would no longer pay big money if the Games weren’t held in July or August. That’s why Brisbane is the host for 2032 instead of Melbourne or Sydney - it’s the only Australian city with the weather to be able to host in July/August.

So don’t Europeans leave around August 1 on holiday—Parisians included?

Looking beyond Seidel's awesome story, it's a disgrace that the women had to run the marathon in such conditions. It probably won't be this bad in Paris 2024, but if they have some massive heatwave during the scheduled time they should run on a different day or even at night.
They can complain to all the people who do the Ironman in Hawaii. The rivers cried will flood the earth.

I can't find the Rhythmic Gymnastics thread (think I must be ignoring the original poster) but was delighted to turn on NBC in time to see coverage of Linoy Ashram winning gold!
