Degrees and the jobs we hold don't necessarily say something about someone's intelligence. Some of the most intelligent people in this world didn't even finish high school. AOC is not my favorite congresswoman, but I like to judge someone's intelligence not based on their college degree and the job they hold but based on what they say and do.

I guess by some standards with my meager bachelor's degree, low level office job and leftywingy politics, I must be darn stupid.

Oh well.

I bet AOC made more money as a bartender than I did working as a Psychiatric Case Manager with a MA degree.

I agree completely.

My opinion that she’s an idiot and an entitled brat have everything to do with what she says and does. Her college degree was brought up as a defense against her being an idiot.

I brought it up. I agree that there are things that AOC is ignorant about; everyone has things they're ignorant about.

Your comment that she should go back to tending bar was condescending, and I wanted to make it clear that there are plenty of other things that she's qualified to do. As allezfred pointed out, she took up that job to help her mother financially. That's something worth admiring, not mocking.

Ocasio-Cortez is a fraud, the epitome of privilege masquerading as a hero of the people. She is a spoiled brat with a despicable view of the world. She’s destined to tend bar not by her education but by her attitude and ignorance. If she really wanted to help her mother - who, along with AOC, had more than I or most other Americans would ever have - maybe she should have ditched her communist tendencies and used that university degree to get a real job.

I wish she and Bernie Sanders would get sent to Cuba, Russia, or any of the other lovely countries that they admire so much.

Reuven was right. You're better than this.

You're confused. That would be Trump.

You can send him to Russia along with AOC and Sanders.

Give me Amy Klobuchar or Pete Buttigieg; or give me Mitt Romney or someone like John McCain, RIP. I'm no fan of Trump, but I'm not going vote for someone even crazier just to get rid of him.

I think the millionaires and above should deeply fear AOC. She's no Bernie. She has not tempered her ideals with many many years in office. And she has a huge following and she can motivate them. She might well lose her primary because of the power of the money class to buy elections but she'll be able to be larger and more radical if she does. And social media is power.

Watch out.

(and just to add four more years of Trump will radicalize a lot of people who would otherwise not be so inclined)

Yikes, sounds like someone is in need of a vacation. I'd suggest Cuba as many Canadians love it there, but I wouldn't want to foist you on such lovely people, were you able to actually be admitted. Maybe helping down in Puerto Rico would be good for you-- just be careful you don't confuse community spirit with awful, awful socialism.

No he's not. This is who Louis was during the run up to Obama's presidency, and then I stayed blissfully unaware of his hateful speech until now. I feel like there was some mellowing in there, but gotta keep the eville commies at bay in an election, eh?

I've deleted multiple personally rude sentences that boil down to: Louis is damn bold for throwing around considerations like privilege when he's deaf, dumb and blind to his own.

It's fine to dislike AOC, but she does have a brain and an education.
I was looking up something else and found this interesting bit of trivia about AOC:

Gawd that article was freakin long. The gist of it from the parts I read was Susan Collins was always a leach hypocrite but we didn’t notice it when bipartisanship was in vogue. Now that bipartisanship is not in vogue, Collins is not bipartisan.

There was also this:

“This is probably the most difficult race that she’s ever had. But one of the difficulties for Democrats is that there’s going to be the highest turnout we’ve ever had in Maine. With the presidential election, I think we could be at 75 or 80 percent, with a lot of low-information voters showing up to the polls. They’ve known Susan Collins’s name for five elections.”
Boo.

I like long articles. But the question that remained unanswered for me is how did Collins go from holding out on the ACA repeal - which did mean something - to that Kavanaugh speech?

That's how Eddie Murphy was elected to congress in The Distinguished Gentleman.

But paper ballots can have misprints.
Unless it's deliberate, how often does that happen? But the number of problems with voting machines that I've heard about since 2016 is insane! And there are so many things that can go wrong and have gone wrong.

How often is it deliberate?

Often these happen with local races so you don't hear about them much it seems like it happens about every 4 voting periods around here.

get a real job.
To my mind, tending bar is a real job.
So is owning a bar, creating and owning a business that produces goods or services, working for such a business, etc.

Whereas I consider the "financial services" sector to be essentially professional gambling.

A complaint has been filed against Rep Elise Stefanik. She used video clips from the impeachment hearings in emails related to her reelection campaign even though House rules prohibit the use of videos from floor proceedings and hearings for campaign purposes. https://news.yahoo.com/elise-stefan...chment-into-a-fundraising-boon-180002631.html
When they (Republican Representatives) were speaking against impeachment I said they were doing their video clips for reelection ads. I didn't realize it was prohibited to use those floor proceedings clips for campaign purposes.

I’m doing just fine in said career, even though I went to college and pay loans for something obviously completely unrelated to what I’m doing now. Everybody excels at different things, but it’s hardly an indicator of someone’s overall intelligence.

Something stinks in OH-Congressional 4th District. Since we know it's not the smelly athletic shoes and socks from the OSU wrestling locker room, it must be Jim (Gym) Jordan.

There are three new candidates running for the Dem nomination (the local newspapers seems to be getting behind Shannon Freshour) as well as a former GOP now anti-Trump farmer running as an independent - Chris Gibbs, and a Libertarian. The Oberlin Review wrote an editorial making a case to support the run of Chris Gibbs. Their strategy suggests he might take away enough votes from the GOP so the Dem candidate can edge out Jordan.
This approach seems to be dependent on Shannon Freshour getting the nomination as the moderate Dem because of the extreme gerrymandering in this district.

No matter what, Farmer Chris is already on the ballot for November. I'm all for supporting his run so unhappy GOPs have a reasonable option. Not to mention every vote he takes away from vile incumbent will give me such pleasure. Could there be a karma reckoning for Gym Jordan this year? We can only watch and hope.

* Farmer Chris for Congress 2020 !!! * :lol:
