Fourth early morning in a row for me.

Any chance that Ted will do this one? Just kidding!

Is there a link to view? Starts in a couple of minutes.

Chiba's music is obviously from some movie soundtrack that my tired brain can't remember. It just seems an odd music choice for skating though.

My parents wifi isn't the greatest so the illicit feed keeps buffering for me but the bits of her music I heard sounded like Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Matsubara - The Piano

Lovely skaters...gentle and feminine. However, lots of errors/falls. We’re not in Russia anymore, at least with the early ones. All so pretty, gentle, relaxing to watch. What the world needs. :)

Hanna Yoshida - Sarasate Gypsy Dance (violin)

Lots of nice triples. Quick rotations & snap. Super, overall. She’s happy! Coach is happy! Somebody wants to advance.

I see Wakaba by the boards...about to warm up with GP 2!!!

Rika Hongo - 4th i FS, 3rd overall - wonder if that was her coach in Vancouver (M. Seki?) live on her iPad?

Jackie Wong tweeted her jumps as 2A, 3Lo, 3Lz, 3F, 3Lz2T, 2A3T, 3S3T2T

Completely pointless but I believe the female in-rink announcer is the same that was at the Nagano Olympics.

The jumps Wakaba got right were glorious, and there is some great choreo in this. The stuff into and out of the 3Lo and how precisely it matched the music, for example.

5 triples, so close on the Axel. I’m sure the judges will be stingy with PCS but I still think she’s one of the three strongest that Japan has to offer.

She was fantastic in the closing step sequence. Landed some gorgeous jumps but missed too many. She won't climb back on the podium with this, alas.

Wakaba Higuchi. Flamenco. That was underwhelming. Not just the step-out errors. Slow. She tried to perk-up at the end with clapping hands. Poor Wakaba.

THE performance of the night, so far, by a mile: Yuhana Yokoi’s TOM & JERRY! Whee!!!

Yuhana's "Tom and Jerry", somehow reminds me of Midori Ito 87 SP, also skated to cartoon segment music from Movie "9-5". IMHO, the antithesis of princessy routine is cartoon themed skate with an attitude. Good skate! and that hand pump after the last jump, brought back fond memories of Midori's 88 Calgary FS.
Since Hana Yoshida popped hers, but Wakaba put hers in, 3A attempt count stands at 5 for both segments. If there are two more, then new JPN Nats record.

a few mistakes but one can see right away how much better her basics are – great speed and attack and finally a program and not just skating from element to element

Yuna Shiraiwa - I absolutely loved this program! Beautiful glide, and also made excellent use of the music.
