2025 Grand Prix Assignments

Per Jackie Wong's 'The Rocker Skating' Skate America preview podcast Shin/Nagy's entry to Skate America was a placeholder in the hopes that Chan/Howe would get another assignment, and Shin/Nagy were aware that they would only be competing if that happended.
Thanks goodness it was not Shin/Nagy who declined assignment influenced by negative, nost supportive comments about them in forum/s.

Since Turkkila/Versluis were a host pick presumably Fin fed could choose to give the spot to Ivanitskiy/Sperry.

Anyway, if Bekker/Hernandez get it that’s good for them but bad for me, since I assume they would withdraw from the British Championships rather than doing four competitions in four weeks.

Would they really drop British Championship? I mean if they have been promoted for ticket sale it would not look good. It’s not like they will qualify for GPF so they might decline. I’m sure they thrilled with that one spot to begin with.

Doubtful. Finland had 3 spots to begin with and they did not assign Ivanitskiy/Sperry last June nor did they leave a TBD spot. I'm quite confident that it will go to the next team on the Alternates List rather than I/S.

90% of the audience at the British Championships is skater family and friends so if they’re offered Finlandia it would be a shame to turn down that experience for another skate in front of the usual crowd at Ice Sheffield, especially as they don’t have any competitors for the second Olympic spot.

Normally I’d say drop Golden Spin but after some bad luck (and bad skates in Georgia) to start their season, they really need some world standing points. Although looking at the GS entry list again chances are they’ll be out of the points there too.

I thought maybe that skating in front of skater family and friends is a reason to go... Also in small feds like this, I think representation is important for recruitment in the sport. I do remember Phebe making a video recently that the Skating Fed or club gave them some really nice gifts because of all they have achieved, and I´m assuming they would want to give something back to the Fed since they have been so nice to them.

I think GS is something that would be strategically wiser for them to do to collect ranking points before Euros and Olympics, some top teams will probably WD so I wouldn´t be so sure they won´t be top 6. And GP Finland is unlikely to give them any, the field is incredible strong. Since they already get the GP experience at SkAm, for me it makes more sense that they rather stick with their original plan and do British Champs and then GS. I assuming they have some sort of home base in UK so they could go back and rest for a week, get rid of jet lag and then do British Champs and then GS. If they had any chance of GPF or there was likely they could pick of ranking points, it would make more sense to skip the Championship and do GP instead. Going back to back in different time zones is hard, particular because jetlag is worse when you go east. They probably will get two GP next season with retirements and this time around it´s just seems wiser to focus on Euros in Sheffield and Olympics - so to be well rested and potentially pick up ranking points where they can.
