All this activity in this thread all of a sudden... I thought there was going to be a pregnancy announcement. ;) :shuffle:
Jan. 6, 2022:
Little did we know when you posted this back then ... 😉

Re-posting from the OTBT forum thread:
President Joe Biden offers a shoutout to figure skater Michelle Kwan, whom he’s nominated to be Ambassador to Belize, during today’s Rose Garden AAPI reception [May 17, 2022]: “You do things backward better than most people can do forward!”

All I gotta say, as a Michelle Kwan stan since 1994 when I was in elementary school… she’s gone places I would have never imagined for her, and I’m so elated for her. I remember the old MK forum, going on heather W’s website to check the figure skating schedule and ordering her Michelle Kwan video tape of performances. And seeing her now with what she’s accomplished. Bravo.

I’m right with you. At the risk of sounding like a crazy stan, through the highs and lows and in-betweens, being a Kwan fan has been incredibly rewarding and really informative as a person still growing up behind her. It’s been an incredible journey with lots of surprises and lessons to take. I can’t fully explain how much she’s really meant to me. From learning how someone should take both victory and defeat with humility and grace to me using her in my college entrance applications (getting into my top choice), then learning from her that it’s ok to have delays and short-term failures, and finishing school in a non-traditional path that took longer, then taking her approach to skating to learn about discipline and perseverance - what helped me through some really tiring, fatigued and hard times is knowing it’s really all about doing the work (especially since she had been categorized as someone who wasn’t as “naturally” gifted compared to some of her peers) and doing it seriously and well…and taking things patiently and doing what you can one thing and one moment at a time, etc. she’s really shown how one can lead life even if it’s not the typical path, and how that’s just as good.

She is who got me into figure skating back in 1994. After "the whack", I saw this adorable kiddo in news reports about Lillehammer when she was the alternate. I watched worlds the next month and saw her skate so well at worlds. I remember Kurt Browning saying something like she and the younger canadian skater would be competing against each other for years to come. And I remember thinking "nope, Michelle is in a class of her own". I happened to study abroad in Spain the Spring 1995 semester, and traveled to Birmingham in March to attend my first skating competition ever. Her long program was outstanding and should've earned her at least a medal (if not the gold).

I was hooked. I will stan MK for life.

(also the same event made me fall in love with Jenni & Todd and their beautiful lifts; the creative diversity of Rahkamo & Kokko and their quirky "finnstep" OD, fun Beatles FD, and their beautiful waltz triste exhibition; the excitement of Bourne & Kraatz, and I practiced my very basic German and crushed on Rene Lohse)

I posted the unsurprising ;) :cheer2: news in her GSD thread earlier today: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...-us-olympic-hall-of-fame.109664/#post-6263611

Copying out Michelle's message of gratitude (for those who don't have an Instagram account) that includes a clip from her iconic "Fields of Gold" EX at the 2002 SLC Olympics: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CeenSP6Fy5a/

I’m so honored to be inducted into the Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame 😭 @teamusa I’m beyond speechless to be included in the 2022 class alongside so many giants in the Olympic and Paralympic movement. My 7 year old self would never believe it. I still vividly remember watching the Olympics as a child mesmerized by my idol @brianboitano My journey as an Olympic athlete was the ride of a lifetime! There is no higher honor than representing our country - and, I got to do that for more than a decade. I’m grateful for my family, coaches, choreographers, @usfigureskating & so many others that supported me along the way. The Olympic creed is an ideal that I take with me wherever I go: “The important thing in life is not the triumph, but the fight; the essential thing is not to have won, but to have fought well.”🇺🇸🙏🏼❤️

I received the following update on Michelle’s nomination for Amb to Belize. Not quite sure what’s meant by her nomination being placed “…on the Senate Executive Calendar…” but that’s the status. Wishing her the best!

Rest In Peace, little Ginseng :(: https://www.instagram.com/p/CfcUeexvz3-/
I prayed that lil ginseng would live long enough to meet the baby (and she did!). We were so lucky to have her for almost 18 1/2 years. She brought so much joy, cuddles and love. I’m posting this late but I’m finally able to see a photo of her without all the tears #sohardtosaygoodbye #bestfriends ❤️
Michelle's U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame induction ceremony :cheer2: took place on Friday, June 24, 2022 in Colorado Springs - links are posted in her GSD thread, starting here:

Cross-referenced from thread, Is Michelle Kwan Underrated?

Michelle at the rink in Artesia breaking out her skates and wonderful, spontaneous footwork! I cannot believe how great she looks, regardless of the fact that she's 42 and just had a baby. And she can still skate! Michelle for the TBD spot at SKAM!

What a weekend. Congratulations to my incredible sis who was inducted to the Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame with the likes of Lindsay Vonn, Michael Phelps, Mary Lou Retton, Mia Hamm and many more… The love and support of this Olympic family is truly unbelievable. I’m so lucky to witness this. Cheers to the #GOATs Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Brian Boitano and Mom!
