Absolutely valid point! I don't like it, either. Big difference between that statement, and not liking the concept in general, to writing that Scott is promoting a shady charity.

That is not what I said. I stated that Charity Navigator has some concerning scores on its ratings of Holt (e.g. fundraising expenses 5/10, fundraising efficiency 5/10) and that if people are thinking of donating to them at SOI they should be sure they are comfortable with supporting the organization.

You aren't the only person who commented on it.

Glad to hear Alysa is having fun (well, all of them after a long year).

By the way, the Canadian Stars on Ice tour has long been allied with World Vision and it is standard to have tables outside on the concourse and a presentation at the end of the first half. It is not international adoption per se but an opportunity to sponsor a child. This is their website, linked from the SOI.ca website: https://www.worldvision.ca/

A question for those of you who already went to the SOI - were you able to use (or did you see people using) a camera, not cell phone, to take photos?

I didn’t see anyone using a camera but I believe you are allowed. You are not allowed to use the flash though.

Are you talking about Karen Chen? She's the only one whose quads are visible. Alysa is wearing a long dress.

I think Karen looks like an elite athlete. As she is. :)
Yes, oops. It was Karen. I just haven't seen her quad looking like that before.

Scott is not endorsing a charity with a shaky reputation. As Wyliefan notes, Holt has a good rating. I am certain he, and IMG management, have vetted the organization.

As another measure there is nothing out of line in terms of executive compensation and spending.

Well, I for one do not feel comfortable giving to this organization.

Yes - The Holt guy stands on the ice to give his speech before the zamboni comes out. I found it very awkward
As did I. There were very few takers, at least in my section. I think there were two. The one closest to me was asked to contribute with a donation envelope. The donor agrees to sponsor a child in another country for $39.00 a month, until they are adopted iirc. The donor received an info packet and a pull on hat.

I agree that it is an odd choice, but pretty on brand for Scott. The concept of adoption is great, but the industry that has built up around it in the U.S. is not without moral and ethical ambiguity, so that is going to be a turnoff for some portion of the audience.

I would also add that adoption can be a very, very emotionally charged topic for a lot of people, which is another reason I don’t love that they’re doing this. I’m personally glad to be forewarned, let’s put it that way.
I went to the first show of the U.S. leg of the tour so I was not forewarned. Imo, it kind of changed the feel-good vibe a bit after the excitement of the first act, given the rather poignant subject matter. I'm sure the organization is ok, but I paid to be entertained, not to be pitched at intermission by an international adoption charity, asking for sponsors for these children. It was frankly awkward to see few takers in the stands. And sad. I was glad when it was over. Thankfully, Act II brought the feel-good vibes back again, at least for me.

Saw the Hershey show tonight. All wonderful skating, no weak numbers in the bunch. Highlights (for me) were C/B, Nathan and Jason (Sinnerman!). Also really enjoyed Vincent and Mirai. Loved all 4 group numbers.

I noticed there were no advance order forms on the seats so I assume that means no show there next year. Maybe it will be a very short tour, maybe combined with the Canadian tour (their plan for 2020) or maybe they'll take a break in non-Oly years.

Thanks for the advice on using the charity pitch for a ladies room trip. We were the first ones in there. ;) And when we came out, it was still going on. From the comments of people coming into the ladies room as we were leaving, I don't think people were too impressed. Scott needs to find another, less intrusive platform for his charity work.

Apparently, Brandon has adopted a "penguin son" (a Beanie Baby) named Waddles and has created its own IG account: https://instagram.com/waddlewithwaddles

Going back to the question about Mariah's black tongues on her skates...there is a photo of the skates and it looks like it's some sort of patch, possibly to reinforce the tongue and/or prevent lace bite, which can occur when the tongue starts to break down. Since skaters are in the middle of a tour, breaking in new skates right now isn't an option.
