FIG has postponed the next few Cups. I lost the tweet, so don’t know the new dates. June seems to stick in my mind.

Found it...
  • Postponements
Qatar
Artistic Gymnastics – The Doha Apparatus World Cup (18-21 March 2020) is now postponed to 3-6 June 2020.

Italy
Rhythmic Gymnastics – The Pesaro World Cup (3-5 April) is now postponed to 5-7 June 2020
Trampoline Gymnastics – The Brescia World Cup (24-25 April) is now postponed to 19-20 June 2020.

New Directives for each event will be published soon. Please note that the on-line registration process will start over in order to avoid any confusion. We kindly ask the national federations to register their gymnasts again.

And Stuttgart AA world cup is cancelled. For the event specialists, they are cutting it awfully close to the start of the Games for training/peaking purposes. This shows the whole thing was a pretty ridiculous experiment.

But what is the alternative?

I don't think they have announced any alternatives. Just cancellations and postponements. They are going back to 5 on a team in 2024.

If they cancel all the AA WCs, they should just raise the team to 5. Hopefully they can still finish the event WCs and continental championships. However, I think they have space limits overall.

I am thinking Simone is already thinking the global crisis will push the next Olympics too far out for her to want to wait.

I’ve been thinking about the O delay and it’s impact on the incoming class. Will Morgan and others enroll? If they do, will they even compete in the spring? For some, it might be an opportunity to get ahead on their studies. For others who thought they might want to red shirt, it might make them rethink.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw some retirements - especially people who were on the bubble.

I would imagine this. Partly the question of age limits will come into play - will those who would age-qualify in 2021 be allowed to compete for spots?

Morgan has already deferred to 2021. She must have known this was coming!

But it will be interesting to see what others do, especially Jade Carey, who has already deferred two years, and Riley McCusker, whose instagram post announcing her gym change made it seem like she was really ready to just get on with Florida in the fall. UCLA also has a ton of Olympic hopefuls coming in (Chiles, Moors, Padurariu, Malabuyo).

Are there any juniors who wouldn't have been age eligible for Tokyo 2020 who might make an impact/be contenders for the team in 2021?

It’s still up in the air on age cutoffs. There’s a “only those eligible for 2020” camp and an “include everyone eligible in 2021.” Feds will have to sit tight until the IOC publishes the rules and qualifying deadlines.

Chusovitina says she can wait until 2021 to compete at her final Olympics.

FYI, Simone is scheduled to be on The Today Show tomorrow morning (Wednesday....and I'm pretty sure it will air between 7-9 AM but not sure exactly when her interview will be).

Many may already have seen this, but 2004 Olympic alternate, 2005 World Champion and 2008 Olympian Chellsie Memmel indicated she is training for a potential comeback:

She is a currently a coach and mom of two, and is in insanely good shape. She regularly posts adult gymnastics on her Instagram.

I have a real soft spot for Chellsie; unlikely as it might be that she ends up on the Tokyo team, I am rooting for her.

Yeah, she's got some skills. There is more than I have posted below. Most of the impressive stuff is on the beam. I don't know if she would be a good fit for the current team size.

Wishful thinking would be that the FIG would fix the team size rules since there is time to have a conference.
