Oh This is Us got me good - how did I not figure it out? But glad I didn't until the end. Still wondering about future Kate though - need to find out if she's in it (the future) - hope so!
Why do they have to add more people and more generations to bounce back and forth to add to the confusion?

They do it so well and do such a clever job of weaving the characters together. I like not knowing where the story is going when they introduce new characters because I have faith that they will blend it all together in a beautiful way. I don't find it confusing. It adds more layers and depth to each person's story.

I tried Emergence last night. I don't think I will be coming back. The constant angst made me feel manipulated.

What I liked about Emergence is that the lead actress does not have the typical appearance of a leading TV actress. I like the kinda normal family atmosphere.

I never started watching This is Us so no need to quit it. :D

I recorded Emergence but haven't watched it yet. Disappointed to hear that it may be too heavy on the angst. I usually give new shows a couple of episodes in case the pilot was poorly developed but we will see.

I can't wait for The Good Place. I was sad to hear it's the last season but I wondered how they would be able to keep the story going. I hope they don't disappoint and end on a high note.

I liked her too. In fact, I liked most of the actors and their portrayals. It was the direction (and some of the writing) I didn't like. Ooo, lets make sure everyone is on edge and nervous through the whole hour. I dislike those kinds of shows. There needs to be an ebb and flow - like a good skating program.

I wasn’t blown away by Emergence but I loved the lead actress and will give it another try.

That's how I feel about This is Us. I stopped watching mid-season 2
I watch, but the only story I care about is Jack.

I watched my DVRd All Rise. That might be good. Bull is on right after that - two legal shows. I'll have to watch them on separate days so I don't get confused. That's what I've done with New Amsterdam and The Resident and The Good Doctor..........

Watched the premiere of the final season of Modern Family last night and couldn't get past how weird they all looked. Then again, maybe I shouldn't have spent much of the summer watching re-runs over dinner when the kids were all cute and the adults weren't fully caricatures of themselves.

I watched Stumptown last night. I think it has some potential - liked most of the characters. I hope we don't have to watch Dex having PTSD on a continual basis, although I know PTSD is not something that goes away very easily.

I tried 3 of the new sitcoms - the only ones that I have seen ads for that looked even slightly interesting. (I have only enjoyed maybe 2 sitcoms over the last decade or so. They aren't really my thing.) Carol's Second Act, Perfect Harmony, and Unicorn. Well sitcom pilots are particularly hard to enjoy but I think only Perfect Harmony will get a second chance from me because I usually like Bradley Whitford.
On the drama side I watched Stumptown, All Rise, and Bluff City Law. I expected to enjoy Stumptown the most and Bluff City Law the least but in fact the opposite happened. All 3 will get at least one more shot, probably more.

Bluff City Law.
I'm going to watch the rerun of this tonight (another Law show???) because I might need something to watch if AT&T cancels our ABC network - Grey's, A Million Little Things, The Rookie, New Amsterdam. Geez. I might need major synopses from you guys. I had to go practically all summer without American Ninja Warrior because AT&T was fighting with NBC.

Funny, ever since Derek died I always wish whatever season is on is going to be the last one of Grey's Anatomy because I've just watched it out of habit - till the first episode this season that I watched this morning. Jo and Alex got back together, Teddy and Owen are together (for now), Jackson dumped whiny Maggie (but she will still whine every episode) and is interested in a really nice paramedic from that spinoff that I didn't watch, Amelia is pregnant and we don't know if the father is Linc or Owen. {{Drama}}

I enjoyed Perfect Harmony a lot more than the promos they had for it which I thought made it look really dumb - instead it was quite enjoyable. Not sure if its premise holds up for multiple seasons but I like a lot of the people in it. Sunnyside I watched too and though it had some moments I didn't like it as much. These are the only new shows I've watched so far. Nothing really excited me this year among the newbies.

p.s. (late) - Oops - New Amsterdam is not on ABC. And our ABC station did not go off the air yesterday like the crawl said it might. That's not to say it will be there the next time I turn on the t.v. Fingers crossed. (They probably had to show all the college football games first. hmpf.)

Anyway, not sure if this will be on next week's list because it is just one show, not a new series. Flipping channels I saw an advertisement for The Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Challenge! Monday at 10 on TLC. And the one show is rerun several times (as usual on TLC). Which is good, because I'm DVRing it in the middle of the night because it is on at the same time as two other things I am DVRing.

I thought Stumptown and The Unicorn were okay enough for me to try two or three more episodes. I'm not going to drop anything too quickly anymore since I was pretty meh on Million Little Things last year after the pilot and now it's one of my favorite shows.

I thought Evil was really strong. I thought the premise sounded dubious (a Catholic investigator and a lapsed Catholic psychologist investigating possible demonic possessions and other supernatural happenings), but the writing is very strong and the two leads, Katja Herbers and Mike Colter, are strong and have a nice connection even though they're coming at whatever they are dealing with from quite difference perspectives. I see that Herbers has been in Westworld, The Leftovers and The Americans. So she's chosen quality shows to be a part of. Colter some of you will know from Luke Cage while others will know him from The Good Wife (and the Good Fight). Bonus casting: Christine Lahti as Herbers Mom.

The premiere episode of Evil re-airs tonight on CBS at 10pm.

Yep. I watch all 3 Chicago shows and always watch them in order. And while ....

I kinda figured Ava would be the one who ended up killing him (cause they were making her kinda psycho creepy stalker crazy last season), I expected it to be like a whole season 'what happened' thing. But  she done killed herself like that. Yikes! Wasn't expecting that at all. But I knew Connor was leaving the show. I just didn't expect all of that to happen in Episode 1.

I got to see the first ep of Nancy Drew at a Paley Screening. Not sure how I feel about making beloved YA classics edgier. I mean

Bess is a Clepto, George is sleeping with an older, married man, and Ned has a felony?

I thought Stumptown and The Unicorn were okay enough for me to try two or three more episodes.

I was really pleasantly surprised by The Unicorn. A very fun half hour and who knew that Walton Goggins (Justified, Django Unchained) could fit into a comedy?? A great supporting cast and the two girls who played the daughter of Goggins character do a good job of voicing their objection to change without becoming unlikeable. I'm hoping that this one will continue to be as strong as the debut episode throughout the rest of the season.

I watched my DVRd All Rise. That might be good. Bull is on right after that - two legal shows. I'll have to watch them on separate days so I don't get confused.

I enjoyed All Rise. The lead actress is tough but likeable. Her intereaction with the judge's assistant is intriguing. Rough going for now, but I'm hoping the two will become very tight friends.

I tried Emergence last night. I don't think I will be coming back. The constant angst made me feel manipulated.

But isn't everything that happened in the first episode angst-filled? First a plane crash. Then one survivor, a child hiding off in the distance. But was she even on the plane? Then the government authorities aren't even a part of the government, but are some unknown entity. Then a couple appear claiming to be the girls parents...but don't even have any photos of her on their phone. So again, people who aren't what they say they are. Then with the girl hidden, someone breaks into the house, probably go kidnap her. Isn't angst the main way to feel/react when all of this happens in such a short space of time?
