So it is being reported on the Beeb- though not confirmed by the Palace yet - that Meghan went to a private hospital to be induced. We should know once the birth certificate is issued - as that is a public document.

Hopefully the family had as restful a night as one can with a new baby. Looking forwards to the first pictures.

William and Kate out and about and thrilled about the new member of the family.

Kate looks great in her nautical look. One small criticism, I do wish William would not use the word “obviously” when saying how happy he is for Harry and Meghan. Charles tends to use that same speech pattern and it always comes across to me like a qualifier. I don’t think it is, it is just annoying.

Here are some suggestions, based on Prince Charles's idea for the name of another sunrise baby:

http://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/harrya...a-royal-baby-born-with-the-dawn-chorus-121600

Thanks for sharing this. I didn't know that about Prince Charles suggesting his neice, Zara's, name based on her being a 'sunrise' baby.

This article introduces some interesting baby names I hadn't thought of. Pretty cool indeed. With all of the possibilities and perhaps wishing to honor past relatives too, the Sussexes hopefully will end up picking four given names, just as Harry, William and their Dad, Prince Charles, and his generation have.

Sol is interesting because Meghan & Harry chose passages from Song of Solomon in the Bible to be read at their wedding. Meghan's character's last name on Suits was spelled 'Zane' not 'Zain,' but that's an interesting choice too considering it's meaning: 'Godly Light.' The article mentions other names and their association with 'light': Elio, Ivar, Kiran, Oran, Lucien. A lot of interesting possibilities. They could go with Solomon, Elliott, Ivan, Kevin, Connor. Traditional names: Philip, Albert, and perhaps Charles as one of the names, but not the first name. Harry's other names are Charles Albert David. I doubt Meghan's father's name would even be considered, but her maternal grandfather's name is Alvin Joffrey Ragland. I really like the name, Lucien or Lucian. They could call him 'Luc' as a nickname.

I would think that maybe Spencer, Markle, and Ragland might be in the running as well for some of the names, yet I've been told that surnames are not generally used as given names for royal babies traditionally.

True that. And Kate always seems so "authentic" in whatever she is wearing, sportswear to tiara!

I think that is kind of a prerequisite for the position - to be (or appear to be) comfortable wearing a very broad array of fashion and to be (or appear to be) comfortable in myriad situations with myriad types of people (from farmers and fisherfolk to heads of state).

One of Kate's greatest assets is her beautiful long hair. She has so many options with it.
It's shorter and more structured than it used to be, which IMO is for the best - still a versatile length, but it doesn't look as heavy.

The first pictures of Meghan's and Harry's baby were just shown live on Sky News in St. George's Hall at Windsor Castle. The Queen and Prince Philip will shortly be visiting with the baby, M&H, and Doria. :)

When asked who the baby resembles, Harry said the baby is changing every single day -- and that's normal. The cameras caught a small glimpse of the baby. Soooo cute (as baby's usually are). He's got a sweet little button nose, and his skin seems olive-toned like Meghan's. There was a wool cap on his head, but he probably has a head of hair underneath. Harry was so possessively holding the baby in his arms. Meghan was wearing a sleeveless white wrap dress with a wide belt tied at her waist. She looked happy, tired and maternal, standing next to Harry, constantly touching both him and the baby. Meghan said, "It's magic ... I have the two best guys in the world, so I'm really happy." At the end of the brief session, Meghan thanked all the well-wishers (as Harry had done on Monday when he made the formal announcement of their baby's birth).

We barely got a glimpse of the baby, but in the up-close still picture, I think I spied what looked faintly like reddish hair showing a bit around the edges of the wool cap.

Here are two really sweet photos of the Sussexes, which show their complete happiness:

According to an article in Flyer Talk,

British Airways (BA) has something special in store to honor the newest addition to the royal family.

Passengers traveling with children will get their very own tiaras and crowns when they use the family check-in zone at Terminal 5, as well as a photo op before departure. In addition, all passengers headed to Los Angeles on BA281 and Toronto BA93 on Wed., May 8th, will be given a complimentary glass of champagne at the gate area.

It's been reported that Meghan was taken by Harry and RPOs (under high secrecy) to London's Portland Hospital on Sunday where she spent the night and gave birth at 5:26 a.m. Monday morning. Sarah Ferguson gave birth to the York princesses at Portland Hospital. Most likely Portland Hospital was at some point targeted as the Sussexes back-up plan, if they indeed had hoped to initially have the birth take place at Frogmore Cottage, when they were finally settled in there. It might be the case though that Portland Hospital was always their plan, and they never considered a home birth at all. ;) The reports also indicate that the Duchess was a week overdue, which would mean a due date of around April 28th or so, had been anticipated.

"The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. Specialising in the areas of paediatrics, maternity (obstetrics), gynaecology and breast care... We offer both consultant and midwife-led maternity packages..."

The hospital specializing in medical care for women and children sounds like something Meghan would be impressed by, and would prefer. She probably conducted thorough research and consulted with her doctors, who may even be based there. Her doctors' identities are being kept private.

Frankly, I'm impressed by how well the Sussexes and their team are keeping things so close to the vest with absolutely no leaks, and being able to maneuver around so secretively during their courtship, throughout their marriage, Meghan's pregnancy, the move to Frogmore, and subsequently the baby's birth. The security team around them really know their stuff. Plus, their circle of close-knit friends are obviously rock solid discreet, only revealing things at the Sussexes' request or with their approval.

I got a chuckle from this news:
https://twitter.com/scobie/status/1125827457213509633

Those babies born on the same day as Baby Sussex, at a hospital in California are exceedingly cute (as are all babies... Sigh). I wonder who knitted all those lovely, thoughtful tiny golden wool crowns? Someone was thinking and planning ahead at that hospital!

I really hope at some point we get to see the Sussexes' dogs. Meghan had always been so generous in sharing pics of Guy and Bogart on her former Instagram. So maybe sometime well into the future, she might post pictures of beagle Guy with the black Labrador (whose name hasn't been revealed) playing with little boy Sussex. :saint:

I don't like any of the names that mean sun or breaking dawn, etc. Since they've known for a while it's a boy but didn't know he would be born at dawn his names probably were already chosen before the birth. The one picture of him they showed is very cute. He's a pretty baby but I didn't see any hair. I did see a small mole exactly where Meghan has one on her cheek. Or that may have been a speck on my monitor.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child:

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.

Apparently it has been confirmed by "sources" that young Archie will have no title for now, so he will be Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. Presumably in time (far, far in the future) he will inherit the title of Duke of Sussex. I will be interested to see what happens when the Queen dies and Charles ascends, then Harry's children will be entitled through the Letters Patent to an HRH and to be called Prince/Princess. Will they upgrade then? (There is precedence not to -- Edward and Sophie's children are entitled to the HRH, as grandchildren of the Queen, but don't use it, and presumably some day their son James will inherit his father's titles as well.)

Shouldn't that be Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor ?

Archie isn’t very “Royal” is it? Cute name though.
It does sound more like a diminutive than a formal name. But more leeway the farther you are from the throne :)

On a shallow note, that's a great baby photocall dress for Meghan. Also, Doria looks fabulous.

So where did Harrison come from? I don't know enough about Meghan - is it a family name of some sort?

Not big on Archie, but then against wasn't when they officially announced that young Prince Henry would be known as Harry, and yet it does suit him so there you go.
