Karen will succeed at Cornell and hopefully at skating next year, too. I have personal knowledge that Cornell is not as flexible in these types of situations as Yale is. Perhaps, though, Karen will be seen as an exceptional, exceptional student for them, and their approach will be modified so that an athlete of her caliber is accommodated.
It would please me immensely to know that Karen has the opportunity to balance her two passions and can excel at both!
Best wishes to Miss Chen! ♥

Lacey, I think Nathan is a one-off. He chose wisely with his coaching team, his university, and his schedule and commitments.

He is pretty much a sevant in this area, IMO.

Nathan won Worlds prior to entering Yale, which I believe gives you more leeway in choosing yr GPs.

Karen seemed to have committed to Cornell before checking out the schedule for the semester (accdg to the NBC article), which indicates she may not have planned this thoroughly. Nathan OTOH apparently consulted with Yale prior to committing, but still faced difficulties especially during his first semester.

Maybe the truth is that while Karen plans to keep skating she doesn't plan to do what we seem to think she will be doing. (AKA "Grand Prix", trying to win World's etc...)

Karen's answer to "Is it still your plan to compete on the Grand Prix series in your first semester at Cornell?" in the NBC article/interview I posted here (#230) yesterday was: "Yes, that’s my plan."
Gracie will be receiving an award (Will Sears Award) tonight after the Ice Theatre of New York's "Unplugged" show... I'm sure there will be an article or two about her by tomorrow (maybe even tweets later tonight).

Spoke with @GraceEGold tonight at @icetheatre. Says she “will compete when she’s ready,” and that she and her coaching team made the decision together. #figureskating
Photos of Gracie receiving the Will Sears Award last night - great to see her smiling: https://twitter.com/fsonline/status/1124137100864049152

Alysa with Yuzuru at the Cricket Club via Geoff. Caption states, “Thanks for a great week, it was a pleasure to work on the quads with you”.
Geoff Dionisio is a well-known pole harness specialist coach at the Cricket Club. Alysa Liu was in attendance at the Hamilton CSOI show tonight.

ETA:

In case anyone was wondering which club show Karen Chen guest starred in May 3 & 4, it was in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Also, the article which mentions Alysa being at the US Figure Skating Governing Council (GC) states that she will indeed make her international Junior Grand Prix debut at Lake Placid. I'm thinking it'll be Alysa, Hanna (?), and maybe Kate Wang or Calista Choi.
I know it was a long shot, I really wanted Lori for Ting. She would've done wonders with her.

I was hoping Ting would go with Raf, but seeing how happy she was with the other skaters at the rink and her coaching team made me realize that they might just be what she needs. Best of luck to her and let's hope she heals quickly.

If USFS is aiming for the JGPF, Hanna will not be placed in the same competitions as Alysa, to increase her chances.

Is Ting injured? Oh no!

No details but an injury reportedly kept Ting Cui from skating in a club show last month: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...local-shows-2019-edition.105447/#post-5571656

Since Ting has been on the ice learning choreography, hopefully this means she is recovering well.

ETA - how  that Ting is featured in Baltimore magazine's May Kids’ issue (pictured in slide show): https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw2bMAHg6fH/

Not sure how accurate a source they are on this subject, but TSL said in their latest video that Ting is dealing is a high ankle sprain.

Hanna Harrell announced that her new programs are choreographed by Misha Ge. Misha probably choreographed both her Short and Long then.
She didn't specify which program in her IG story?

ETA:

USFS' jump camp will be held later this week (May 9-11) in Colorado Springs. Hopefully there will be some clips to link to. ;)

I'm really hoping Pooja has recovered from her injuries and that she's working on great programs for next season. She's such a lovely skater to watch and I really hope this season goes well for her.

Pooka seems rather tall. Didn't she go up to Calgary for a while and was coached by Ravi Walia? I was not impressed with her at all this past season. Maybe Cornell or Yale is calling for her now?

Not as far as I know. Are you maybe thinking of Angela Wang? And Ravi is in Edmonton, not Calgary.

Also, Pooja is 16. Maybe a bit early for fans to be shipping her off to college?

LOL you think? I think you couldn't probably say "fans" because that sounds like a fair weather fan at best. First year on JGP and a senior event and you didn't perform your best? GTFO POOKA!!!!!!

Umm, I'm done with this stupid spellcheck. If I write Pooja, I expect it to say it. If it incorrectly "corrects" me, I'm like Oh well, even software programmers aren't all that. No misspellings here. And oh dear how sorry I am to have mistaken Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Only a 3 hour drive. I apologize for my severe mistake. *eyeroll* Don't know about you, but at 16 I already had college credits and was visiting college campuses at this point. Cornell included. *eyeroll* to you back, Jarrett.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

As a high performing athlete and an immensely intelligent and thoughtful young lady, I do not believe Pooja would throw away years worth of sweat, blood, and tears and tens of thousands of dollars to go off to college when her international career has not even taken off yet. Individuals of Pooja's calibre don't simply hang up their skates because of one or two bad outings, they pull through with grit and determination and see to it that their dreams become reality. If every Olympic-gunning athlete called it quits at 16, oh how different the world we live in would be.

However, I do see your point and hope that she does not quit because she has so much untapped potential. I hope that she stays with figure skating and that all her hard work pays off. Let's wait for an official announcement before writing her off, we've done too much of that this season. Remember when many, including me, wrote off Ting as a head case and she snatched the Bronze at Junior Worlds? Remember when people wrote off Hanna after a less than preferred performance at her Junior Grand Prix, but came back as a Pewter medalist at Nationals and a Top 10 finish at Junior Worlds (still annoyed that she did not go past 180)? We just have to wait and see.

Pooja Kalyan traveled to Switzerland last month (including Champéry but she didn't reference or show anything skating-related that I saw). From what I've read about her, she has many talents and interests beyond skating; her parents are both doctors and her older sister is at the University of Chicago. :)

ETA her injury sounded serious and hopefully she has healed well since Nationals: https://www.instagram.com/p/BtXUJkfHRHw/

Umm, Tessa Hong? Common knowledge was that her parents were extremely driven to make her an extremely driven young woman. If you don't make it to the Olympics by 16, sorry, we want you in Yale and on your way to your MD or PhD. No more skating for you!!! You really can't enjoy your skating unless you are winning. A very sad case. Not really, though. What Uni is she at now? MIT?

I've posted a link to Misha Ge's IG ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BxI6i-KBsoD/ ) about Hanna's SP music in the Programs/Choreographers thread.

I don't see a song sung by Piaf to "Tanguera"? Perhaps it's a blend of a Piaf song with a piece named "Tanguera"? For example, Mariano Mores was an Argentine tango composer and is credited with a "Tanguera" piece.

ETA that someone just asked Misha what I was wondering about (in the comments of his IG):
So many questions!! Miss Piaf did Tanguera?! I can’t find it!!! She was my grandmother’s FAVORITE! I’ve never heard her do it!!!
