Also, the ISU World Team Trophy in Tokyo will have a tape delayed TV broadcast for the first time on NBCSN (Eastern times below, I assume):

Very annoyed that Skating has been demoted to UniversalHD. Seems like Curling has overtaken figure skating for the NBCSN Fri/Sat night slot. It's unfortunate since most cable providers (including mine) include NBCSN but not UniversalHD.

Maybe I do need Icenetwork afterall with their awful coverage and customer service....argh.

Universal HD covers the Grand Prix FS Championships whereas NBCSN covers the World Figure Skating Championships. So that's why you didn't see coverage of Worlds on Universal HD.

If you have DirecTV, you can purchase what's called The HD Extra Pack for $4.99 per month and it will include Universal HD. So, if you wish to watch a lot of the Grand Prix next season when it comes on, you can contact DirecTV and tell them you want the HD Extra Pack. I don't know about the other cable packages or Dish Network, though.

Just got an email from DirecTV announcing that NBC is cancelling Universal HD and the channel will cease to exist on July 14, 2017. I wonder what this means for the planned broadcasting of figure skating?

Universal HD is being replaced by the Olympic Channel... so I think it's likely(but not completely sure) that the grand prix's would be on that.

The new linear cable channel will be available to most subscribers of Altice, AT&T DirecTV, Comcast, Spectrum, and Verizon at launch. The linear channel will also be also be available at launch on streaming services, including DirecTV Now, Fubo, Hulu, Sony PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV.

I think it will be fantastic. Plus, they already have a lot of coverage at the Olympic Channel website.

I watched the 1992 Olympic opening ceremony in Albertville earlier. Totally awesome.
