It's amazing that the podium is all Asians :)

Yuzuru is only 19. He has a good chance for a 2nd gold in four more years. I do hope he'll dump Weir as his costume designer though.

He has to be the early and heavy favorite now for the 2018 gold. Alot can happen in 4 years but if you had to put money on it now, pretty much everyone would put their money on him. He could even potentially go for a 3rd gold in 2022 given how young he is.

Congrats to Yuzuru (though I think he peaked a bit too early)! I only became aware of him a few months ago when I stumbled across his 2011 lp to R&J soundtrack and he won me over as a fan. I thought he had the raw material of a champion and such passion in his skating (reminds me of Yagudin)! I hope he will skate for years to come and fight for another OGM.

Weir designed his costume based on what Yuzuru wanted. I don't believe Weir forced that costume on Hanyu. At age 19, one can have a strange taste in costumes. He will change.

Or maybe he won't, and people will just have to deal with it :) You're perfectly right, it's not fair to blame Johnny. Yuzuru asked him to design the costume and he knows what his style is. He obviously likes it.
Yuzuru gave a lot of input to Johnny on how he wanted the costume to be. He's quite supersticious, and wanted pink and green there because he thinks those colors bring him good luck. There is also a small yellow bird, which is not seen because it's hidden under his arm. I guess that must be for good luck as well.

Congratultions to Yuzuru. Has his popuarity exploded in Japan? I know Daisuke is the really beloved one but I'm hoping to hear that Japan has really embraced this kid. Have they?

How can they not embrace him more than any other Japanese skater, after winning the OGM at such a young age? I am sure he is THE most popular skater in Japan right now. I am really excited about seeing him develop more. His potential seems limitless right now. I hope he will stick with Brian Orser, who has done wonders for him.

He is enjoying a great upsurge in popularity, yes :) Hakuhodo (a Japanese advertising company) published a document with athlete's image evaluation in the past few days, and in the overall ranking Yuzuru came in 2nd only to Ichiro, Mao was 3rd, Daisuke was 10th.
He's made the cover of many magazines, there's a DVD coming out, his book (which was published two years ago) has been reprinted, Gary Moore's record label in Japan has started printing his Live at the Marquee album again... that sort of thing.
He has the kind of image which could make him even more popular in Japan, maybe even like Mao in the future, but it depends if he wants to pursue it or not.

Praying for the people who were affected by the 3.11 great earth quakes and tsunami three years ago. And also appreciating the support from all over the world. Yuzuru is one of the people who were affected by the disaster. He did work very hard to improve his skating, that's what he could do for the Tohoku people. Now this young man is the one who inspires and encourages the people who are still struggling. Hope he'll continue competing long and enjoy skating. Go and skate lights out, Yuzuru!

WC 2015 is near, time to up this thread, with the latest article about him.:drama:
https://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/2015/03/22/where-is-yuzu-how-is-yuzu-2/
And he’s had much to recover from over the past seven months or so. It’s been anannus horribilis, as Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth has been known to say about the rocky roads that can assail a person’s psyche.
This season for Yuzuru is technically "the season from hell" but I am amazed by his will power. I'm nervous that he hasn't fully healed but boy has he ever had any healthy World Championship to begin with.:wuzrobbed I hope he will be satisfied of what he puts out on the ice, regardless of his poor condition this season. :)

On weibo some volunteers are saying Yuzuru is attending the close practice at night, no outsiders were there. I hope tomorrow we will have some news about his condition, I hope his ankle is better.
And here a remix of his performance at GPF, made by a friend: http://youtu.be/uIJMCF9_l8g

His jumps at GPF marathon slow motion: http://youtu.be/nIaQ2VIbJ64
Wonderful/ powerful/ beautiful... Jumps :respec:

Serious preparations for this competition started in March. He even felt the anxiety that it might be impossible for him to participate in this competition. He still needs his right ankle wrapped with taping. While he's not recovered his form fully, "My health condition is enough to perform. I'm thankful for that," Hanyu smiles.

Today's practice is even MORE worrying:

Before music: 3Lo, 3Lz3T, 4T,

then with music: 4T, 3A(fail), 3Lz3T(3Lz fail and didn't connect to 3T), after music: 3A,3Lz3T,3F(3F is with Mura's POTO),4T,4T(Step out), 3A3T, 3A1lo3S,4S(fail, then begin 4S, 4T, 3F(fell, and laid on ice for a while), 4S, 4T(fail), 4T, 3F

What is more worrying ? He landed most of quads. No one expected he will be in tip top shape here, but it's very good so far like for conditions he is

He has trouble when the music is on. which means he lacks proper run-through with music.

@Meoima, I wish my translation of his interview at yesterday's practice session will be helpful for you. ;) Honestly speaking, I'm not expecting amazing skates from him with the current condition. I just wish he'll be satisfied with his skates. And hopefully team Japan will keep the three spots. After all, it's he who chose to compete at Worlds. If not, Dice could skate in stead of him. I don't think there is a choice for him to withdraw at this point.

(my rough translation)
Hanyu(01-00):
-In what someone see I might not have had enough time. That said, I pushed myself into a tight corner and worked very hard. My take is I worked hard enough to be well prepared for delivering my good skates.
-(About official practice) I showed noticeable mistakes. But I came to understand what caused the mistakes. So my take is it was quite a good practice today.
-I'll do my best to deliver what I can do now. What I wish fist of all is to be back in a competition, to enjoy my skates in front of everyone and to thank people.

Thanks for the translation rosewood.
This has been a very strange ans rough season for Hanyu. I hope he can finish it in a high note (from the point of view of results), but just competing, after all the obstacles, shows his determination and is a great prize by itself.

I am concerned about his stamina in the LP. He has been dealing with an injury. I hope he skates well in the LP.

It's very worrying since he looks so pale and sweats a lot. They don't even have the one day off to rest like last year at Saitama.
Nevertheless, for his current condition I think he has done so much. Scores he couldn't control no matter how many people don't agree with the judges. I think as long as he is smiling and content with his efforts, that's good for him.

Bonus the interview with Fuji Tv: http://311mi.tumblr.com/post/114799829638/fuji-tv-interview
