Carol Burnett--an American comedienne/actress--used to have a TV variety show in the 1970's and, at the end of each episode after she sang the closing song, she'd tug on her earlobe in the same manner. I seem to remember that she once explained that that was her way of saying "hello" to her grandmother(?) while on TV.

Coach Brian Orser used to do that beside Yuna. IIRC, to his grandma. Correcr me if it's wrong.

Carol Burnett was the one who made this signal famous. Since she coudn't say "Hi Gramma!" on TV, she invented this signal for her instead to let her know she loved her. She never stopped doing the ear tug even after her grandmother died.

Michelle Kwan used to do that for Karen IIRC.

I'm so glad we had this time together. Just to ____ (can't remember the lyrics here)... and sing a song.

I think it's "have a laugh and sing a song"?

Why do I know this? It's akin to remembering the lyrics to commercials. I think sung words may be stored in a slightly different part of the brain than spoken words.

    The words in total are

I'm somgladvwe had this time together
Just to have a laugh and sing a song
Seems we just got started and before you know it
Comes the time we have to say so long.

After her grandmother died it became Carol's signal to her kids.

Has anyone seen Carol in the Here's Lucy episode Season 2 episode 24 where they enter the "Ms Secretary Beautiful" competition? Hilarious, especially the competition itself. Carol steals the show.
