I finally watched the SD. Shame about the mistake. It was upsetting to see them upset. I'm sure they were mad at themselves for the bobble. I'm no Marina fan, but I did feel bad for her because it looked like she was trying to cheer them up a bit, but they weren't having none of that and ignored her and she stared at them not knowing what to do lol.

ETA: I have to agree with everything you said Carmen. The quality of everything they do is really quite astonishing.

    Thanks for report!
I think it was much better, then in Finland. In Finland Tessa had some problems from the begining? then some mistakes on Finnstepp and then twizzles.
I think if we are talking about choreo this could be best SD of the season, no?
Nobody else didnt play so much attention to the ballroom dance this season. In 2012 a lot off teams try to show this mood, but noy now.
MarieM, i know, you didnt like SDs from this season. What do you thinkj about VM SD?

I already said it pani : it's the only good SD so far from all the ones I've seen. They've got the quickstep right (at least in the feel maybe a little work on the steps) and it's classy not tacky. The music is wonderfull not jarring, I ask for not much more ;)
Weaver and Poje come close, but they're lacking the quickstep feeling IMO.

pani, that gif is the moment before the music began? I loved that little saucy shimmy while still keeping it classy. Even before the program begins Tessa and Scott really set the mood. Every moment stands out.

And that picture illustrates what so many here have talked about before There is no position V&M hits that isn't perfectly aligned with one another and the music. Even though Tessa and Scott are in different positions as dictated by the choreography it still matches/fits. Someone else could probably explain it better. And the stretch of Tessa's leg along with the pointed toe and her posture. Whether live, on video or in a photo, everything is picture perfect.

This program makes me miss the days of ESPN or Universal Sports. This SD is definitely something I want to see on a large screen.

Sure, it's not the first, and it certainly won't be the last nasty piece written as we approach Olympics and the rivalries intensify. But the fact that it's published by a website/organization which, despite being American, is supposed to remain neutral - that's disturbing. I don't see CBC or Skatebuzz presenting such a biased opinion.

I just watched the SD again focusing on their twizzles from the waist up only (looking to identify champagne hands of course ;)) and you couldn't tell there was a mistake. As Pani said, even their mistakes are synchronized :)

Contrary to the popular belief in this thread, Tessa and Scott seem to still be in the cards for the Olympic gold and quite far from the 4th or 5th place in the world.

Go Tessa and Scott, there's no one better in ice dancing than the glamorous and spectacular team of Virtue and Moir.:kickass:

Not just on this thread but seemingly everywhere else too. I know where a lot of it has stemmed from and that it's borderline propaganda, but I can't help but be pleased to think 'they' are sweating a little today ;) Expect a slew of negative comments to hit the web.

I only saw the mistake on the twizzles, but the rest seemed sublime.

Don't be ashamed I hate the SD concept as well. I think a lot of people do and I'm hoping they change/alter it after Sochi. I think that's the plan?

Ah, Rod Black, he has been especially annoying. I can't even remember how many time I screamed at his comments yesterday. Just some ridiculous statements made by him. Seems like he has less of a clue than normal,if that's possible.

With one mistake, while details on elements like the twizzles "can come out" it is these details that make the best so special. I think they can keep them in and do them just fine next time. Otherwise, why aside from reputation should the judges be able to award the stellar marks that they do? The ability to achieve mastery is so completely in V/M's reach, that it seems people looking for conservatism to "avoid mistakes" that to me, is not what greatness is about.

the funny side of greatness. the more they're attacked, the more it shows how great they are. i'm thinking of some legendary artists who were absolutely hated once they came on top. it's a flattering confirmation. so thank you, fake and spiteful journalist from icenetwork. you just added a tribute to their brilliance. things like this give me only pleasure.

ITA!!!! I groaned when I saw he was back this year. Rod Black should be banned from having anything to do with figure skating!

Man,that article is really nasty. If icenetwork already writes these kind of articles now, what are they going to do,when V/M will beat D/W at the Olympics?

What a disgusting article! Who is this idiot Amy Rosewater?! Can they just not write about VM at all instead of writing utter crap like that. Wow. I also love how she conveniently cuts the full quote made by Kaitlyn. This is actually what Weaver said Amy Rosewater:
If anybody needs evidence usfs is actively politicking against VM, read the article.

I avoid all VM articles by ice network, and all commentators who speak English (except the British eurosport guy, because he's always happy for everyone!) Watching the Russian feeds has been so much nicer because I have no clue what they're saying so I can't get annoyed haha No one's taking my joy this season!

Is anyone at the FD practice today? :)

    I agree MissJD!

I am with you - MissJD. I am forming a Tessa and Scott bubble around myself because I really want to enjoy their last (tear) season. Thanks so much to the wonderful posters who add so much knowledge and insight to this thread. I know Scott and Tessa wanted to skate perfectly yesterday for their fans because it was in Canada and my greatest wish as one of their fans is they let go of that and just skate for themselves. They owe Canada nothing - this year should be about them and their marvelous journey. They have been fine ambassadors in every way and I agree with Kaitlyn - the quintessential dance team of their time. They are legends.

LOVE, LOVE IT! They brought it to another level this competition, even with the tiny bobbles. Loving the costume changes...it somehow fits much better with the feel of music, if that makes sense. Oh, definitely how I had imagined it to be...but even better! :)

    Yes, this!!!!

I thought the judging scoring was really fair, thank goodness :) It's all I hope for. I believe it will increase as the season progresses barring bobbles. ;) Better to be realistic and fair now rather than inflated and undeserving. Not to be depressing, only thing I can think of why this may happen is only to put a better footing for their favourites ahead of time and then later cry foul should they later on being surpassed by other teams. (I am talking in generalities applied ALL teams of ALL nationalities, OK)...Speculation, perhaps. But, I don't see why it isn't the intention. Silly, cause I think it really boosts confidence as well as determination to skaters if they see scores climb steadily throughout the season.

Thanks for all those links (practices, SD program, post SD interview and news article (nope, won't even bother reading one from Icenetwork ;))!!!

The FD practice already looks promising (love the changes I saw so far)...I seriously can't wait for their FD!!! :cheer2:

(hey, is it just me or is Paul/Islam projecting image/representing like Tessa and Scott - skating wise and costume choices? It's meant as a compliment, btw :) Great skating from Weaver/Poje too. I always find her such a sweetheart and both have really good sportsmanship)

Guys - don't be so panic driven.
The referee at the event is Jean SENFT, a Canadian.

Take a look at the judging & technical panel from Vancouver where technical controller was Katalin Alpern (Israel).

And also, Tessa's face in a lift is always amazing. There's as little strain in her expression than if she were upright and smiling and someone. I've never seen anyone that serene in dance lifts.

Don't forget that Canadian Marie Bowness was technical specialist for last 2 World championships.

Does anybody have a link for the TSN coverage of the SD? Apparently Scott told Tessa he was going to cry before they started and she rubbed his back/shoulder. I think its the emotions of realizing this is their final season that's getting in the way at times.

I'm pretty sure the Russian feed says more great stuff about V/M than American and European feeds. Thats why V/M have so many great fans in Russia and thats why all the Russian coaches like them (like Zhulin).

Unfourtunately no :( I really want to see that. Scott did look sorta misty eyed and hopeful before they started and Tessa's face had a look that said "oh stop that you're going to make me cry too!" http://25.media.tumblr.com/e6ab5b17259579b5330e6174cf5c6fc5/tumblr_mv9az5LLfb1s09a3jo1_400.gif
