Any details on how her jumps looked? She's been criticized for her jumps being smallish and I wonder if Tammy Gambill has been able to help her out at all

Sylvia (or anyone), Have you seen anything this year on Anna Grace Davidson? After winning Intermediate Nationals last year, I expected to see her name among the Novice Ladies. I don't see her on Scoretracker and haven't heard anything locally. Just wondered if you had come across anything. Thanks

I thought her 3F looked a little better, as did her 2A (even though she fell on it). Both jumps seemed to have a little more height than what she's shown in the past.

Maybe the lesser competitions will give Alissa a more confident start to the season which will contribute to what she can accomplish all year.

Davidson registered for a club comp. (Novice Ladies) in Utah in July but did not compete. I don't know anything else at this time.

Top Senior Ladies total scores (150+) known from summer competitions (Regional included):
185.86 Courtney Hicks, Glacier Falls (bye to Nationals)
173.60 Polina Edmunds, Glacier Falls (CP - may receive a bye if she competes in a 2nd JGP)
173.10 Agnes Zawadzki, Vail Inv. (bye to Nationals)
161.81 Vanessa Lam, All Year FSC Open (SWP)
160.80 Hannah Miller, Grand Rapids Open (EGL)
158.99 Mirai Nagasu, Glacier Falls (don't yet know if she needs to compete at SWP)
156.86 Kiri Baga, Cranberry Open (NE)
156.67 Christina Gao, Cranberry Open (bye to Nationals)
155.22 Franchesca Chiera, Glacier Falls (SA)
154.58 Mariah Bell, Broadmoor Open (SW)
154.52 Ashley Cain, Broadmoor Open (SW)

Polina Edmunds and Mariah Bell make their JGP debuts in Mexico City this week (SP is Friday).

ETA that I've posted the link to Gracie Gold's latest blog in the U.S. Ladies discussion thread in the Trash Can: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/sho...ty-Warhorses&p=3987019&viewfull=1#post3987019

Also, Samantha Cesario received some good news today: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/sho...ympic-Season&p=3987047&viewfull=1#post3987047

Vanessa Lam is at Finlandia Trophy with Mirai. She's finally a senior level skater.

Was Finlandia to close the the US Senior B competition for Courtney Hicks to compete? I don't see picking someone like Lam over Hicks makes a lot of sense especially looking at where they are in their respective skating careers right now.
9. Jarrett

Jarrett Firebird for worlds!

And where are they in their careers? Lam beat Hicks at their only meetup last year, has a higher PB in the short/long/overall as well. She had to withdraw from Nationals because of an injury. One has made the JGP final and both have won a JGP event.

Congrats to Vanessa on her first senior international event assignment!

Vanessa hasn't improved her skating at all in the last couple years. She's about where she was two years ago and is getting passed up by a lot of skaters now.

(Replying to the previous post that's not worth quoting here): Not sure how you can say that when you haven't seen her skate recently. I'm glad Vanessa Lam has received a Senior B assignment. :) She may be off to Harvard University starting in the fall of 2014 and deserves a chance to compete internationally at the senior level. I assume it's not coincidental that Lam was assigned to Finlandia since both she and Ricky Dornbush will go there with Tammy Gambill.

JGP Mexico City update from yesterday:

Polina Edmunds won the FS (113.43) and the gold medal (171.21).
Mariah Bell placed 2nd in the FS (103.26) and won the bronze (153.17).

Their FS videos are posted in the U.S. Ladies general discussion thread here: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/sho...ty-Warhorses&p=3989503&viewfull=1#post3989503

Edmunds was credited with landing 7 triples (+1 for her opening 3Lz+3T) but had a few shaky landings on others; Bell landed 5 of her 6 planned triples (doubled her second flip).

I can't find another thread about US Ladies in GSD, so I'm adding this here.

US Ladies are in Sochi after training in Graz post-Opening Ceremonies:

From Polina Edmunds:

USA's 2014 Olympic Figure Skating Team altogether in Sochi! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/N4iZH9Ff8d

And there was a press conference. From Lynn Rutherford:

Thanks for sharing. Honestly I don't understand Ashley's indignant reaction to her score, did she not realize the back half of her 3-3 was not good and would hurt her score? A *good* 3-3 would get her in the bronze medal hunt, though.

Gracie is gorgeous but she does totally rock the BRF in between her :D, lol

Love their matching red lipstick in the press conference, too.....fierce! :)

I didn't realize that this was an identified thing. I'm sure I have it, because almost any time I'm waiting on line, thinking about something completely different, the person helping always thanks me for my patience. After they haven't thanked anyone ahead of me for their patience.

I think I have it too, people are always saying "What's wrong?" and "Smile!"

I've gotten the "Smile!" a few times as well from completely random strangers. I always have to make myself conscious of :D so people don't think I'm angry at the world.

I really like this blog entry on the subject:

This blog sounds as if there are only two facial expressions out there: BRF and :D. I suppose it's true for some people.

Yesterday I was watching a practice session of Olesya Novikova with Olga Moiseeva (who is a Vaganova ballet master and is ballet royalty) on youtube and thought to myself what a lovely resting facial expression Mme Moiseeva has when teaching. The smile wasn't necessarily on her lips but in her eyes.

Oh God, I have it too. When I think intensely, especially when considering many options, people always ask me what is wrong. I always answer- nothing, just thinking. I even started to warn people in advance- if I am silent and look unhappy, do not worry, I am thinking.
That was so off topic, sorry.
So yes, Gracie. Gracie is lovely. Ashely is lovely. Gracie. Ashely. Yes. Olympics. More updates a day after tomorrow, in appropriate threads.

I used to be in denial about my BRF, but eventually came to terms with it when I realized everyone and their mother comes to talk to me when I ice skate (and tend to be happy-smiley as a result). Work, when I need to get things done by a certain deadline, garners lots of 'everything ok?' questions for me, too. Eh wells. Evil Eastern European coach face :D.
