It's sort of rigged, but give it a go....
Is it supposed to do something? Some music plays, and the word "SPENT" appears at the bottom with a line through it, but that's all I see after a couple of minutes....
Depressing to say the least, but it does show the vicious circle.
Like the motivational speaker said to my group today - I'm lucky I have a good job. Even if I don't like it much, it's better to have it than not.
I came out pretty good
I failed the typing test. . .and I type about 80 wpm.
Tried again and did past the test, came out ahead at the ahead of the month. But I might be dead because I didn't see the doctor (did pay the vet bill, though), my family hates me, and I'm going to have to start hitch-hiking to work.
You will all be happy to know that I did not go to my waitressing job when I was sick.
Otherwise, I failed.
I passed, by about $250 bucks. I was ignoring tooth pain and doing other shady things though, like driving away.
This site is a good way for them to raise awareness. The agency is to be congratulated on their good idea.
I came out ahead too. Of course, I did go to work sick, miss my best friend's wedding, drive away from a hit and run accident and give Fido to the animal shelter, but all in all things went well.
I had $328 at the end of the month! But I still need the pesky root canal, my dog is suffering in pain, and it's getting chilly in here. No help yet from my Facebook friends, either!
I got fired for talking to co-workers about setting up a union. Anyway, the 'average unemployed American' you play does not fit me at all. I don't drive a car, have kids or live in the city.
Are your (facebook) "friends" supposed to refuse to help you sometimes? I keep hitting "ask friends for help" every time, and nothing (bad) happens.
I made it through with $888 as a temp worker...but some of those choices were pretty risky.
I tried to be responsible, pay bills on time, etc. I ran out of $$$ on Day 18.
how did y'all get involved in a hit-and-run accident?
That was one of the situations when I played. Pulled out of a parking space or something and hit another parked car - the choices were to take off or pay the other car owner.
Came out ahead with $446 and then $577 and made decisions as I normally would; didn't have to do anything I would consider unethical. Made sure that relatives and even the pet (which I would not have) were treated.
Some of the scenarios were bogus -- told me I couldn't pay all my bills even though I had enough cash to do so.
Yeah, I did notice the bill thing. I had like $450 or so and my bills were only $250. So neither would have gotten shut off.
I just played again and came out with about $348, but then again, what would I do if I had to pay the rent with just that much? That'd be a problem.
I lost my job because I wanted to unionize and went broke on day 22 because I wouldn't let my pet suffer.
That's actually about what would happen.
(It didn't help that my cat, who has a somewhat pink and squinchy eye, is peering at me over the computer. He's going to the vet on Tuesday if it isn't better by then.)
It's a good game.
I came out ahead as well, but you can't have a life kid goes to school sick and the poor pet has to suffer!
I made it through easily, but with a sore tooth. I had health insurance but no dental.
Did anyone get through and have their root canal?
That was a toughie. I did well a couple of times, but always with my numbing gel.
Another thing that annoyed me about the game is that I specifically paid the highest rent mentioned so that my gas costs were $5 per month. But then all this car stuff kept coming up! Um hello! That's why I picked that. Also, it's a little unrealistic, because not keeping a car and working very close to home is a good idea for those of modest means. They should have different problems for those that paid more to live close, like that damn kid and his window breaking ways!
Still like the game though.
You also don't get penalized if you spend $0 on food...I kept waiting for it to pop up "starvation" at some point.
