Well, were now well into the silly season with not a great going on in the world of figure skating. Nevertheless, rumour does have it that the following will be the main contenders for the next Animalympics in 2014:-

Barry the Bear. A good jumper, you will observe that Barry's main advantage is his superb spins. Outside of figure skating, he can also play a mean game of ice hockey as well

Jonny the Monkey. At the Animalympics, the contest consists of only 1 free skating round (with male and female animals competing against each other in the same one and only competition) and when I say free skate, it is literally a free for all. Hence, as you will observe, Jonny has come up with quite a few novel innovations. His signature move, however, is what has become known as the "Evel Knievel" in which Jonny attempts to jump as many obstacles as he can. The move that will leave Surya Bonaly completely envious, however, is his backflip - a legal move at the Animalympics

Snoopy the Dog. What Snoopy really focuses upon is his artistry, musicality, and interpretative skills. However, like Kristi Yamaguchi, he is also a great all around skater as well, with strong jumping ability - particularly on the Axel.

Molly the Cat. Molly is a long shot for the title and has a tendency to repeat the same move over and over again (the quadruple paw slide). However, fortunately for Molly, unlike in ISU events, the 'Zayak rule' does not apply. Hence, repeat moves still count.

Diego the Dolphin. Huge protests erupted this week, when Diego put in a highly controversial application to perform his program in water - without any actual ice!! Diego's point was that although his program does not incorporate any actual ice skating, it still features a kind of skating - a form of skating across water. Well, I think Diego might be skating on thin ice with that one.....! Hence, its 'up in the air' as to whether Diego will even be allowed to compete. Nevertheless, should he be permitted to, then the signature move of his that you will need to look out for is his triple flipper.

Boris the Bison. Now Boris may look a bit awkward on the ice, but don't be fooled by that. He has actually constructed a program called 'debut dummy' in which he is impersonating a Bison new to figure skating. Hence, like Snoopy, Boris is likely to get high marks for artistry and interpretation, although there have a been a few snide comments from rivals, that Boris is merely playing himself for real and that his program is bound to look believable therefore.... Moreover, Boris's body type means that his program lacks a bit in the jumping and technical department.

    So, who will win?

Snoopy. No other choice, although he needs to learn to not trip when he takes a bow. Snoopy all the way!
