Excellent news for LGBTQ New Yorkers:

    http://srlp.org/medicaid-programs-w...lthcare-following-srlps-twelve-year-campaign/

After 12 long years of advocacy by many legal organizations, Governor Cuomo has just announced that Medicaid will now cover transgender healthcare. Meaning that hormone therapy and surgeries (both are considered medically-necessary to treat what the DSM-V labels as gender dysphoria) will now be covered for low-income trans folk. This is a giant victory because a great number of folk will now be able to get necessary treatment they need but cannot hardly afford due to discrimination in many other areas (such as housing and employment). This will decrease the amount of people getting hormones on the streets (often times at risk to their health) and will help trans folk empower themselves.

This news comes on the heels of Cuomo's announcing last week that private insurance companies can no longer deny gender-affirming medical procedures. You should read the timeline provided in the link above to get an idea of how long it took to get to this point.

The FDA just announced that its lifting the ban on men who have had sex with other men from donating blood. I cannot wait to read what the new policies will be as I felt the ban was based on irrational fear, animus, and incredibly outdated science.

I know this was a hot-button topic in PI some time ago, and there were some strong feelings about this. But that said, you cannot ignore medical science (which is relevant to my post above) and this was a long time coming. I am happy the FDA has finally wised-up that this blanket exclusion was bull.

Elton John Ties the Knot, Lance Bass Says 'I Do' & More Weekend News

On the news the other day, they said that Elton and his partner David Furnish had a civil union thing in 2005 but now that this year gay people have the same rights as straight people to get married, they decided to tie the knot. I'm glad that in my 51st year of life, I am no longer considered a second-class citizen.

They also said that on the radio that all members of N'Sync were at Lance Bass' wedding except for Justin Timberlake. What they didn't say on the radio is that Justin is in the middle of a tour.

I was just thinking how amazing it is that so many states now have legalized gay marriage. It seems like it happened so quickly, all in a rush... when in reality, it took decades; lifetimes. But I'm seriously chuffed that this happened in my lifetime. I honestly wasn't sure it would.

A gay meetup.com group started last year in my city of 76,000. The movie night I attended with them included a lesbian couple and a gay couple, all in their late 20's. I started thinking about how our experiences are different. As a youth, I read rumours of bisexuality about Mick Jagger and David Bowie in Rolling Stone. And that was it. For them as youths, they had a top 10 TV show (Will and Grace) on every week...for eight years. That's just one example of what they had which I did not. The differences between my generation and the next is so dramatic, I could never have imagined such a dramatic change in my lifetime.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Support Shiloh's Wish To Be Called "John"

I want Jolie and Pitt to adopt me. I'm not saying that I now wish to identify as female. I'm just saying that I want them to adopt me. :D

And I thought I'd share a link to a play-reading posted on youtube of "8": A Play about the Fight for Marriage Equality. I've bookmarked it and I really need to get around to watching it one of these days! It stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jane Lynch, Kevin Bacon, Matt Bomer, Christine Lahti, Matthew Morrison, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Chris Colfer, John C. Reilly and George Takei.

Ok, this is going to sound really stupid, but I was surprised he was gay. Maybe because I just figured if he was gay, he'd be out by now. Goes to to show you how bad internal pressures to stay closeted can be when a veteran actor on Broadway still felt the need to act straight (at least in public even if many people it seems already knew).

I believe that Richard Chamberlain also "came out" late in life...in his 70s, I think; and Jim Nabors, too.

I've always loved his acting. He was such a sensation in Cabaret. I feel myself to be an honorary member of this thread as although I am not gay, I am definitely bisexual. :)

His acting was one of the best elements of "Cabaret". I did not see him in any other movies except for "Kafka" and "Empty Mirror".... in which I thought he was being "type-cornered" for various reasons based on "Cabaret"... but did a good job as an actor.

Never gave a thought about his private life.... If it means so much to him to come out then good for him, I am on his side! I just don't see the reason why a great talent has to explain his private life. Don't complain and don't explain...

Since he accepted a role of a homosexual/bi/non-traditional in the movie "Cabaret" produced in the 70's, I hope he knew that in the earlier versions of the stage play his and few other characters were to portray "the decay elements of Germany which lead to all that followed".... If someone told me to play a role of a "jew" as an explanation why there is "anti-semityzm"... I would not take it.... even if it let me "be a jew full blast"....

That's exactly how I feel about Tom Hanks. If he and his wife want to flaunt their private lives by constantly mentioning one another in interviews, who am I to condemn them for that? What place is it for me to keep them from flamboyantly expressing their heterosexuality? I root for them in spite of not asking while they do tell. Why these prized award winners have to stick it in my face...I'll never know. But who am I to judge, really? So I don't.
