no gorshkova/butikov on the poll? scandal!
Can I submit this for consideration? Brent alone could take the poll, but her eye makeup is
I think these could go in the poll as well :
Thanks a lot guys for the suggestions , I will definitely using those in the future polls
thanks! I have just checked some of their costume photos! hahah, I have to add them for sure
Maybe they were trying to confuse the judges. I skated in a pair of pants with a similar pattern once, and my coach said he couldn't tell my legs apart.
How could we forget these...
I am back with the new "Crazy Figure Skating Costumes" poll for January!
Enjoy voting and feel free to post any suggestions for the next months!
Thanks a lot for the previous suggestions! Some of them has been used this month!
So, what do you think? Who is the worst?
My favorites are Elena Grushina's pasties at the 2006 Olympics
and Irina Lobacheva's overly exposed everything in 1998
Skaters are prohibited by the rules from giving the impression of excessive nudity. I've noticed half the skaters in Europe don't follow this guideline, so their judges may not either. For it to be considered excessive in Europe, does it have to show the full monty? And who makes the determination of costume vulgarity violations?
Part of the rule is that if a costume is cut low in the front, it cannot be cut low in the back as well, whether or not the area is covered by illusion fabric. I'm wondering about Samantha Cesario's "Swan Lake" FS costume, which she designed. It's cut low in front and back.
If she wears this costume at JW, will she get a costume violation?
Just about any costume for the YANKEE POLKA
I really like her! I wouldn't have called that excessive nudity.
I don't think it is either, but it is low cut front and back.
The men who were at the party where I watched Nationals thought the black on her front looked like hands reaching up and grabbing her chest. Apparently the 'swan' costume was lost on them.
Samantha's costume is not only cut low in front and back, but on the sides, too. I'd hate to see her get a costume deduction--I like Cesario very much, and thought her FS was among the best of the night.
How have I missed this for so long! I love your site! That photo of Brent made me laugh so hard.
Does it depend if the official in charge of costume inspection is bored and wants to feel important? Who actually makes the costume/prop deductions?
Cesario's dress might be too tame for this thread.
Each judge has the capability to post -1.00 for a costume or prop violation. If a majority of the judges do so, the referee applies a 1.00 deduction.
Awesome polls Cocovica! I can't believe I've missed the fun! Looking through all the pictures makes me think:
1. I MISS LA KHOKH!!!! Nobody has stepped up to replace her :dramaqueen:
2. Ice dance costumes sure have gone downhill (the outrageous hill that is) in the last few years.
Look there's our space ship
It is pfffffor... aaaart baby!
Where's the rest of it. They ran out of ink?
She saw something in the judge's eyes... it is the same expression.
Nipples on ice. Is this a Wang original? I feel like borrowing Disney's Aladdin eraser.
Zhiganshina & Gaszi: the dress is like strange fecal art. It reminds me of pool noodles and those balloon sculptures clowns do.
Amodio: Magic Mike meets tiger circus trainer. Yikes.
PS, bless you for starting this Cocovica. Made my day
It was brought to my attention by euterpe that this young lady received a costume deduction this year at the JGP. I mean, I cannot see why. I've heard all underage women in France skate around nude to jazz music. Those stuffy judges! This seems to be inspired by Josephine Baker, but it comes off as just, well, naked.

And from that same competition Hwi Choi didn't do much better dressed as a hobo. JGP is where it's at for ladies costumes.

and have fun
I can also bring some of those costumes back if you are interested? Just let me know! Because there are pleeeentyyy of them and am sure many people who havent visited my site back than would love to vote for some of those...
I agree- best of the ladies. Also loved Madison Chock as best in dance ...it was high risk but the framing of the face with the collar was top rate.
